Mondo Monday Morning Shuffle - Beans, Rice, and Bleached Ravioli Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook

Thanks to everyone who donated to WXNA during the Fall Pledge Drive, we exceeded our goal!  I know WXNA is a true labor of love for everyone involved, and it is very refreshing to feel that love echoed back from our community.  I am extremely proud to be a part of this incredible radio station!

Heading into a holiday shortened week of shuffles.. thinking about all I have to be thankful for.

Here is the latest shuffle from our "New Music" playlist.

"It Kicks" by John Hufford
First up, we have a first listen.  John Hufford is a singer-songwriter from Bethlehem Pennsylvania.  This is a track from his forthcoming EP Sleep (Due out December 15th).  Really digging this so far. Expect to hear more forthcoming. No videos yet - but I found an older video from John Hufford.

"The Next Sleazy Motel" by Maynard and the Musties

Next up, we have another track from Nashville Magic - the, um, magical new album from Maynard and the Musties.  This band, led by Joe Maynard, formed in Brooklyn, New York, but are not based in Nashville.  Their music is an awesomely hard to pin down mix of country, folk, rock, and Americana (whatever that means to you).

"Dead by Dawn" by Voice of Addiction

It's always good to have some righteous aggression in the morning. Gets the blood pumping. Been really digging the new album, The Lost Art of Empathy. This band is from Chicago, and they are the subject of a feature length documentary called Punk Band which will be released in 2018.

"Bleached Ravioli (I'll Never Dance Again)" by Discount Ravioli

Hey, it's another awesome track from Baby Arm Sessions. What starts as a meditation on candy (I think) morphs into a lovely song that included the parenthetical subtitle. This time, instead of digging into the seedy underbelly of YouTube for clips of the various band members, I just searched "Bleached Ravioli". The video I found has no connection (as far as I know) to the band/track - other than the title, but it does beg the disclaimer: "Do not try this at home"

"Running Futures" by Cellarscape

I'm not sure how many days in a row the shuffle has pulled up a track from Exo Echo from this UK band. As I have said before, I have exactly zero complaints about this trend. This is a really beautiful song.

"A Savior on Capitol Hill" by Derek Webb

Next, we have another track from the Strange Freedom: Songs of Love and Protest album put out on Cafe Rooster Records. This track is by Nashville singer-songwriter Derek Webb.  Among his many accomplishments, Webb is a co-founder of the website Noisetrade - which has provided a lot of music to E2TG over the years.

"Your Dreams" by Jon Magnusson

Next, we have a track from Psalms for Sinners by Swedish singer-songwriter Jon Magnusson.  In addition to being a singer-songwriter, Magnusson is an independent promoter who explores innovative approaches for the current, highly fluid, business of music.

"Beans 'n Rice" by Brian Wright

Mmm... a tasty track from 2016 E2TG Artist of the Year, Brian Wright taken from the recently released Cafe Rooster Sessions Vol. 2.  Wright is the co-founder of Cafe Rooster Records - whose lineup also includes 2014 Artist of the Year Darrin Bradbury and 2015 Artist of the Year Jon Latham. Needless to day, I love this label.

"Wider Circles" by Rising Appalachia

And we close things out with an 8 minute live version of Wider Circle from the album Alive by Rising Appalachia - a band which formed in Atlanta some 11 years ago.
