Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Just Like Frank Sinatra Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook

It's Day 3 of the WXNA Fall Pledge Drive.  If you have not already done so, please consider donating to WXNA today!  wxnafm.org or 615-933-9962 whenever the station is on the air (like early morning to late night every day).  They have a rad coffee mug if you donate at least $72.00 (that's just $6.00 per month if you set up a monthly bank draft).

It's Wednesday and we get "Wild" on Wednesday... well, our shuffle comes from every single track saved to my phone memory, and the results can get pretty "wild"...

I added about 200 tracks the other night, and a couple of them show up today...

"Brevity Lane" by Paul Zografi

We start things off with the title track to a 2015 EP by this Nashville artist.  The song is about a road here in Nashville where I once looked at a house. Brevity Lane is in a neighborhood where I lived for more than a decade.  Turns out Paul Zografi and I were neighbors, but I didn't even know him then.

"Night Takes Legs" by Tim Lee 3

We head east down I-40 and stop in with our Knoxville friends - Tim Lee 3.  This is from their album 33 1/3.  Tim Lee 3 are currently on hiatus - with Tim and Susan Lee playing as a duo called BARK, but I recently saw the three of them backing the great R.B. Morris at The Basement.

"The Housefire" by Turnpike Troubadours

This Oklahoma band have been together just over a decade. They have released all of their albums on their own label - Bossier City Records.  This is a track from their most recently album - A Long Way From Your Heart which came out just last month.  In the video playlist is a live performance of this song from this year's Americana Fest.

"Pining Again" by Logan X

I just got hold of an advanced copy of the new Logan X ep - which was recorded in four days in Bilboa, Spain last month. The EP is tentatively scheduled for Spring of 2018 with hopefully a tour that will bring Sam Braverman (who recorded all of the instruments on this EP) to Nashville!  This is my first listen, and I am really digging this. You may recall, we first heard Logan X a few years back on a Mama Coco's Funky Kitchen compilation.  Speaking of MCFK, the DIY studio/collective recently announced the were ending their run. Mourn not, however, from the ashes is coming Holy Fang. I'm sure we will hear more about that.  By the way, Sam Braverman was in Nashville over the summer - with NO ICE - at Betty's with a lineup that included Nashville's Sad Baxter (who I first saw backing Bill Eberle). Well, Sad Baxter is in New York tonight where they will be sharing a bill with NO ICE. See it really is all connected.

"Legend Has It" by Run the Jewels

Next we have a track from this American hip-hop duo off their third studio album, Run the Jewels 3.

"Far Away Blues" by Adam Carroll

Thanks to my friend Adam (not Carroll), I recently got hold of a bunch of Adam Carroll albums.  This is the title track from his 2005 album.  Carroll was recently the subject of a tribute album that includes tracks from a bunch of great artists including one by Nashville's own Tim Easton and Aaron Lee Tasjan.   Look for Adam Carroll songs to come up on future Wild Wednesday shuffles.
"Sister's Song" by Tom House

When Tom House recently sent me his latest album Strange, I Reckon, he threw in a copy of his 1999 album 'Til You've Seen Mine. This is a track from that album which finds House in fine form.  Coincidentally, the cover art for that album was done by my fellow WXNA DJ Eric Babcock - with whom I was hanging out last night during the  Pledge Drive.

"In the Jailhouse Now" by Black Flag Tribute

Nothing strange here.. just Keith Morris, Peter Case, and Mike Watt performing a song from the early 20th Century - recorded (and sometime attributed to) Jimmy Webb and which contemporary audiences likely know best from O Brother Where Art Thou?  This cover comes from a Black Flag Tribute album called Gimme Gimme Gimme: Reinterpreting Black Flag - because of course it does.

"Eulogy for Frank Sinatra" by Discount Ravioli

And we close things out with a heartfelt tribute (er... well) to Old Blue Eyes himself - from the Baby Arms Sessions by Discount Ravioli.  Since Discount Ravioli don't believe in videos (I'm thinking of making fan made videos if I ever have free time), I have included one of the earliest known interviews with The Foresters 3/4 of who's members are also in Discount Ravioli.  The interview is about eight years old, and the oldest Foresters just recently turned eighteen. So you do the math.
