Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Bye Bye Johnny Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Happy Friday!  I huge THANK YOU! to everyone who came out to Week 3 of the E2TG Residency. Thanks to The 5 Spot and big thanks to Brian Milligram, Darrin Bradbury, and The Coal Men.

Brian, backed by Mike Lombardi, made his 5 Spot debut and nailed it.  He played some of my favorite songs of his - including "Better Man" and "Common Song for the Road".

Darrin was... well his was Darrin  which means he was brilliant and charmingly aloof and self-deprecating and wonderful.  He played some brand new songs and generally confirmed my long held belief that he is one of the best songwriters working.

The Coal Men reminded me, once again, that they are simply the best. In their nineteenth year of existence as a band, they are - as I said in my introduction - solid as a rock - with a great sound, wonderful songs.

Now, we turn our attention to the 4th and final week of the E2TG 7th Anniversary Residency. We hope you will join us next Thursday, June 28 at 6pm. Performing will be Eli Cook, Bee Taylor, and Joanna Barbera.

HERE is the Facebook Event if you need it.

Onward to our Friday shuffle!

"Deeper" by Rotten Hill Gang

We start this off with London-based rock/hip-hop band Rotten Hill Gang from their forthcoming album Teach Peace. The band features former members of B.A.D. and they have shared a stage with Mick Jones (Big Audio Dynamite, The Clash) and many other greats.

"It's Not the Money" by Reckless Johnny Wales

Reckless Johnny (feat. Siri) tells us that "It's Not the Money" (or is it?) and has some timely and pointed words about the state of things. A Nashville original, a character in every sense of the word, and an all-around great guy.

"Ain't It a Pity" by Bill Eberle

We still await the release of Bill Eberle's new album, Soft Light (word is it is getting closer).  This is a wonderful and timely album that sees this long-time Nashville songwriter/singer push his own boundaries. I look forward to it being out in the world.  In the meantime, check out the Video Playlist for one of the two songs already released from the album.

"The Illusion (End Credits)" by Phantoms vs. Fire

It might have been fitting if this was the last song of the shuffle - but it wasn't.  It is the last song on Swim - by Italian/Brazilian composer and multi-disciplinary artist Thiago C. Desant who records as Phantoms vs. Fire.  There is also an Extended Version of the album out.

"Empty Bottle" by Matt Tanner

Next up, we have another track from the self-titled debut album by New Jersey-based Americana/Country singer-songwriter Matt Tanner.  The album was recorded in Nashville. Check it out!

"Whiskey Priest" by Bill Bloomer

And we close things out with track from Jubilee - the latest album by expatriate, red dirt singer-songwriter Bill Bloomer. This is a wonderful album, and I am grateful to have been introduced to Bill and his music. Hope to catch him on his next visit to the States.
