Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Seasons Songs Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well Week 1 of the E2TG 7th Anniversary Residency is in the books!  Thanks to all who came out. Special thanks to The 5 Spot, Clark Paterson and his great band, Rayvon Pettis, and The Big Dumb.  Inspiring music and good times.

We turn our attention to Week 2 coming up next Thursday, June 14th!

One of the best songwriters in Nashville, Ben de la Cour - who's most recent album is The High Cost of Living Strange will be stopping by to open the on his way to begin a Canadian tour.  Long time E2TG favorites, The End Men will be making a rare Nashville appearance. I believe this will be there first Nashville appearance since playing the Post-Americana all-day thing at The Basement a few years back. I am so excited for some of my Nashville friends to see and meet my Brooklyn friends.  Ted Drozdowski has recently started playing shows under the Ted Drozdowki's Psychedelic Circus moniker. He is a blues man - steeped in the traditions and yet willing to use those traditions a jumping off point for his otherworldly experimentation.  He has been hard at work on a new album, and I hope we hear some of his new music Thursday.

It is CMA and Bonnaroo weekend which means the temperatures have soared into the 90s.  Stay hydrated no matter what you do.

It's time for our Featured Friday shuffle. Currently, this shuffle comes from the "New Music" playlist - the same one I use for Trending Tuesday and Trending Thursday. I'm thinking of creating a Featured Friday playlist - with the idea that I can chose to "Feature" music that isn't technically "New" - which I already do - but I always feel like I have to disclaim.

"Elmore James" by Tim Easton

We start the shuffle with songs by two troubadours names Tim.  First up, is East Nashville's own Tim Easton.  Tim Easton has been hard travelling of late - but it is always a treat running into him or even better seeing him perform.  This song about the blues guitarist and bandleader who was active from the 1940s until his death in 1963 - was originally included on Easton's album American Fork.  This stripped down version comes from his most recent release Paco and the Melodic Polaroids.

"Austin in the Summer" by Tim Henderson

Next up, we have the late great Texas singer-songwriter Tim Henderson. This is another one from Volume one of the Legacy Collection box set. The first volume is subtitled Gone to Texas.  This song is about summer in the Texas state capital.

"Caveman" by Rayvon Pettis

Remember, my shuffles are random...  Fresh off his ecstatically wonderful set at last night's show, we have Rayvon Pettis with a track from his album Dying Light. Rayvon is a kind person with a wild steak that shows up when he takes the stage (and possible other times - I suppose).  His album is amazing, and he was my 2017 Artist of the Year at E2TG.

"The Empress of the Garden" by Nicholas Merz

Next up, we have another awesome track from the debut solo album by Nicholas Merz of the Seattle band Darto which formed in 2010.  The album is called The Limits of Men, and it has been out about a week now.  I couldn't find a video of the song, but you can hear it below:

"XO" (Live Session) by The Elation

Next up, we have the lead single from the debut EP - Clickbait which also came out last week - by this indie-pop outfit from Cork, Ireland.  A great song - to get me moving on this Friday morning.

"Won't Lie Down" by The Mouse Outfit (Feat. Berry Blacc + Dubbul O)

Up until the last month or so, I knew very little about the hip-hop scene in Manchester, UK. I still probably know very little, but I do know there is some amazing music emerging/happening there. Foremost on my mind, is The Mouse Outfit whose album -  Jagged Tooth Crook - we have been featuring recently. This track features fellow Manchester artists Berry Blacc and Dubble O - both of whom have been touring with The Mouse Outfit. They just wrapped up UK tour and will be heading to the Continent later this month.
"Autumn Song" by Claudio Conti

Claudio Conti is a true citizen of the world, and his music reflects that global vision. His most recent album is called Garnet Dusk many of the songs were inspired by and reflect the influence of the time Conti spent in California. Conti is originally from Italy and more recently is based out of Chicago.

"When the Wind Breaks Your Knees" by Rorey Carroll

Rorey Carroll was a special guest of Cafe Rooster Records during their week of last year's E2TG Residency.  This is a track from a compilation released by Cafe Rooster of music made in response to the election of 2016 - called Strange Freedom: Songs of Love and Protest.
