Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Hound and Half Moon Mix

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed seven - January - Junly2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

E2TG June 2018 NEW!
E2TG July 2018 NEW!

I am back.  I had a training out of the office yesterday - so no shuffle. Today is Friday and it is the last day of August. Plus, it is the start of a three day holiday weekend here in the U.S.  I am looking forward to a visit to my hometown tomorrow and a trek to the Muddy Roots Festival just north of there on Sunday.  The festival is going on all weekend and has some great acts covering an increasingly wide range to musical styles. Sunday's killer line-up includes Nashville-related folks like Smoky White Devils, Joshua Black Wilkins, and Sarah Shook and more.  Plus X, Meat Puppets, The Dead Boys, and much more.  twelve hours of great music.  I will be helping out Smoky White Devil's early in the day, and then hanging some at the WXNA tent. If you are at Muddy Roots - come see me.

It is Friday and we have some "Featured Friday" tunes to...um... feature. Let's shuffle for one last time this week and this month.  Then, I will see you in September.

"Nightmares and Dreams" by Phantoms vs Fire

First up, we have another track from Swim by Phantoms vs Fire - which we have been featuring since early in 2018.  Phantoms vs Fire is an electronic music project of artist Thiago C. Desant who is based in Italy via his native Brazil.

"Remind Me" by Dentist

From an album called Swim to an album called Night Swimming.... the later is from New Jersey based indie pop trio Dentist. This is, I believe, our second listen, and I am digging this album very much.

"The Hound" by Palm Ghosts

Despite perception to the contrary, the Nashville musical landscape is a rich and diverse tapestry covering just about every genre of music imaginable. Our friends, Palm Ghosts do their part to bring a bit of 80s Manchester into the Nashville music mix via their recently released album Architecture. Still, the "classic" Nashville songwriting tropes have a long, almost inescapable reach, and so fans of classic Music City country music will note that his song is about a dog.   I am listening to the rest of the album now - focusing on lyrics to see if I spot any songs about pick-up trucks and such. I will let you know.   Oh - and lest I forget, Architecture is a great album - which you should definitely check out.

"Angus" by Beth McKee

Next, we have another track from Beth McKee's amazing Dreamwood Acres album.  Being introduced to McKee, Dreamwood Acres, and the songwriting collective she leads - Swamp Sistas - has been a highlight of my year. Dreamwood Acres was produced by John Pfiffner who is a protegee of legendary producer Mitch Easter. The album is dripping in the lore and the sensory experience of the South.  Swamp Sistas is a wonderful organization/collective which empowers and enriches some amazing female songwriters and singers. Sarah Shook - who is playing Sunday at Muddy Roots - is listed as member of Swamp Sistas.

"You Dress Me Up" by George Trouble

E2TG has always been about connections - sometimes unexpected or loose/indirect connections. I mentioned that Beth McKee's album was produced by a protegee of Mitch Easter. Easter led the North Carolina band Let's Active. One of the original members of Let's Active was Sara Romweber. Sara Romweber is the sister of musician Dex Romweber (Flat Duo Jets).  Dex Romweber makes an appearance on PLOW - the new album by George Trouble.  George Trouble is the non de plume of singer-songwriter George Terry McDonald.  McDonald was part of the first ever official E2TG presents show. Tell me we aren't living in a connected world.

"Jitter Visions" by Cup

Next, we shift gears and listen to the title track from the latest album by Brooklyn based hard rock band Cup. Jitter Visions follows close on the heals of Hiccup which came out late last year, and which we have also been featuring in 2018.

"Almost Like the Blues" by Mark Huff

Next, we have a powerful and timely song from Stars for Eyes - the new album by Nashville/Las Vegas singer-songwriter Mark Huff.

"To the Half Moon" by Rude Audio (Rich Lane Remix)

Finally, we close things out with a first listen from London-based electronic dance music collective Rude Audio.  This is a track from an EP called Rude Reduxe which is not set for release until October.  Our first listen is to a remix by Rich Lane who is one of the top remixers and producers in the U.K.  A great way to head out of this week and into the long weekend.
