Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Seeing Red Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Here we go again.  It's Trending Tuesday. My time is short - so let's go!

"Seeing Red" by Start Static

We start things off with a 4-piece indie rock/punk band from Glascow, This single was released back in November, and it is about turning anger into a positive force.

"Crackin' Up" by Bo Diddley

Okay - maybe it requires a bit of explanation about how a Bo Diddley song ends up in our Trending playlist (not that most people would complain about hearing a Bo Diddley song.  This track (and the next) come from a new compilation CD being released by Atomicat Records called Gonna Make It Alone.  The CD address the UK Brexit debacle with a fun-filled collection of songs that are not about Brexit, but whose titles taken in the right context could be.  The label included an extensive press release with their take on Brexit - which I will share soon. Meanwhile - viva music!

"Don't Push Me Too Far" by Skeets McDonald

As I said another song not written about Brexit.. from that Gonna Make It Alone. This one comes from American rockabilly/country artist Skeets McDonald who was popular in the 50s and 60s.

"Cheye Calvo" by American High

A much more directly political song is up next.  American High are a California band that play punk/rock and roll. Their most recent album is called U.N. Article 14 - an United Nations article addressing the rights of asylum seekers. Our first listen gets it's title  from a 2008 drug raid gone bad at the home of the then mayor of Berwyn Heights, Maryland - Cheye Calvo - the song asks tough questions about the cost of the "War on Drugs".

"Sing Me To The Other Side" by Steve Conn

Switching things up, we have another track from Flesh and Bone from veteran Nashville musician Steve Conn.  Among his many credits, Conn is known for backing Sonny Landreth.  Landreth himself appears on this album.

"Peach" by Burning House

Next up, we have a first listen.  "Peach" is the b-side to this UK shoegaze/post punk band's new single Mirror Song. Cool stuff. Looking forward to hearing more.

"Capsized" by kettleflower

kettleflower is a Nashville-based collaboration combining instrumental tracks composed by Mike Purcell with new lyrics written by Patrick Rickelton. Long-time E2TG readers (and others) may remember Patrick - from his project Prattle On, Rick - which we featured often in the early days of this blog. Purcell produced many of those Prattle On, Rick songs.  I am digging this new music. It's always good to catch up with artists we have written about before.

"Mother of Mine" by Amelia White

I think it is release week for Amelia White's Rhythm of the Rain.  This is a powerful and personal track from that album.  I am almost certain this album will be flying high when I think of my favorites from this year.

"We Don't Have to Live Alone" by Ted Russell Kamp

Next up, we have another track from Walkin' Shoes by Ted Russell Kamp.  Kamp is a busy sideman and an excellent singer-songwriter.  Happy to have this album in my line-up.

"Reprise" by Peter Rogan

Next, another listen (this to the brief final reprise) from Still Tryin' to Believe by Peter Rogan. The album is not due out until March 1, and we still don't have any YouTube clips to share.  The album features Will Kimbrough and Phil Madeira (not a bad pair of musicians and artists).

"Post-Modern Blues" by Watermelon Slim

I first learned about Watermelon Slim from Ted Drozdowski's song Watermelon Kid.  Watermelon Slim has a storied history inside and out of music.  He currently runs the Bluesberry Cafe in Clarksdale, Mississippi.  His new album Church of the Blues is out this week and features some heavy-hitting blues musicians - like Bob Margolin (who played with Muddy Waters for several years), John Nemeth, Nick Schnebelen, Albert Castigilia, Joe Louis Walker, and Sherman Holmes. More on Slim and this album soon.
