Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Earworm Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Last night, I attended the CD release show for Josh Gray's Songs of the Highway album - which we have been covering. Jason Erie and his band opened.  The show was held in the backyard of The Groove record store in East Nashville, and it ended up being a picture perfect evening for an outdoor show.  Josh and Jason are two of my favorite local songwriters, they both were backed by killer bands, and they both have released excellent albums in recent months/weeks.

We jump back into the Trending playlist and we have a pretty cool mix of songs today...

"Hurricane" by ESOEBO

We start things off with our second listen to the forthcoming VI (the 6th album) by Atlanta duo ESOEBO.  In the video playlist, we have a solo version of this song by ESOEBO member Chuck McDowell. Really digging this album.

"1929 Vintage Wine" by Marty Willson-Piper

Next up, we have another track from that recently reissued 2000 album by Marty Willson-Piper called Hanging Out in Heaven.  I love this song.

"A Resurrected Man" by Noctorum

More Marty Willson-Piper - this time from the recently released The Afterlife album by Noctorum - Willson-Piper's collaboration with Dare Mason.  This track is reminiscent  of King Crimson.  Lovely stuff.

"Lucia" by Bryan Haraway

Next up, we have another track from the forthcoming self-titled album by Las Vegas singer-songwriter Bryan Haraway - who we met during the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV a couple of weeks back.

"1.17.61" by American High

Next up, we have a track from California punk band - American High from their album U.N. Article 14.  A great stripped down song.

"Live Where You Love the Sky" by Benny Bassett

Next, we have a track from Words for Yesterday by New Mexico singer-songwriter Benny Bassett.

"Big Hat, No Cattle" by Ashleigh Flynn and the Riveters

Next, a rather humorous song from the self-title debut by the new band featuring E2TG favorite Ashleigh Flynn... Of course, here in Nashville, we no nothing about people who dress like cowboys but who have never ridden a horse.

"Old Neighbourhood" by Holygram

Next up, we have another track from Modern Cults by the German band, Holygram.  Always good to have some shoegaze/Kraut rock in the shuffle.

"I'm Walking Home" by Jason Ringenberg

Another of my favorite tracks (out of most) from the new Jason Ringenberg album Standing Tall.  I am so glad I got to see Jason make his debut at the Bluebird Cafe last week.  Jason's Civil War song.

"Earworm" by Sean McCollough

Since, I like to make connections, here's one.  Although, I know Jason Ringenberg as Jason of Jason and the Scorchers, there is a whole generation that knows him as Farmer Jason - the host of a popular children's program. Sean McCollough is also a noted children's performer and educator (based in Knoxville).  This is the title track from his new album which mixes children's music with more straight forward adult fare.  As I mentioned earlier, McCollough was a classmate of mine (a year or so behind me in school). This song explains that an earworm is not an actual wiggly worm.
