Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Misery is a Strange Perfume Mix

I'm back!   And of course, my time is short - so let's get right to it!

"Jenny" by Bryan Haraway

We start off with a great tune from the upcoming self-titled debut album from Las Vegas based singer-songwriter Bryan Haraway.  I would describe the music as catchy roots flavored pop. I dig it.

"Misery" by Dead in 5

Next up, we mark the return of Detroit hard rockers Dead in 5 to the E2TG shuffle.  We first connected with them back in 2015.  They are back with a new album called Automatic Death Machine.  This is aggressive hard rock music and it's really damn good. A nice change of pace for E2TG.

"Waves Towards the Moon" by Marty Willson-Piper

Careful you don't get whiplash as we shift gears again - and return to the recent reissue of Marty Willson-Piper's album Hanging Out in Heaven.  This is the kind of ethereal and lovely pop music one would expect from the former member of The Church.

"Broken Wheel" by RJ Cowdery

What If This is All There Is  is becoming one of my favorites of this year. RJ Cowdery is based out of Columbus, Ohio, and this album has some major Nashville connections - being produced by Amy Speace and featuring the talents of Thomm Jutz, Jen Gunderman and more.

"Tunxis Valley" by Them Airs

Okay - look here at E2TG - shifting gears is kind of our thing - so I'll stop saying it... BUT, we move from RJ Cowdery's wonderful folk/singer/songwriter songs to some Noise rock, post-punk, janglegaze, hip earth, antifa music from New Haven, Connecticut.  Them Airs - which features Evan and Hayden of The Foresters and Cade of Smoky the Firebear - will be releasing their debut album Echo Park Bomb City next week!

"A Strange Perfume" by The Membranes
Maybe not such a wild transition unless you count the age of the respective bands - we have another track from What Nature Gives... Nature Takes Away  by 1980s post punk band The Membranes who recently reformed. This is not a nostalgia trip - this is fresh and vital music - released over 30 years after their debut.

"The Streets of Pasadena" by Pete Berwick

We have just a few more tracks to feature from Island - which sits in the upper levels of my favorite albums of the year.  It has been a joy discovering the music Pete Berwick - who stands as one of the innovators of the cow punk sound. And yes, he has a Nashville connection. I understand he is working on the follow-up album.

"Waters Rise" by Chad Richard

Worthy Cause - is one of the new arrivals on my favorite albums of 2019 list. Chad Richard is from the part of Texas closest to Louisiana (which might explain the Cajun pronunciation of his last name).  Great vocals and wonderful songs.

"Shattered Faces" by Dead in 5

We close with our second track from Automatic Death Machine.  I've recently been doing some reading about the battle lines between punk and metal - and how as metal got faster - those lines began to blur. Dead in 5 call their music tequila soaked hard rock, and that is good enough for me.
