Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Jesus and Jim Morrison Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Greetings from Nashville!  It is Monday and time for Music City Monday.  Exploring all things Nashville - Past and Present!

Let's get right to it!

"The Gear (Live)" by Rayvon Pettis

We start off with a track off of Live from Nowhere - the split release between Rayvon Pettis and Ryan Sobb - two of my favorite local writers - both with connections to Birmingham, Alabama and both first introduced to me by Darrin Bradbury.  The album was recorded live in studio at Trace Horse Studios in Nashville.  A wonderful collection of songs from both Rayvon and Ryan.

"Sun" by Joanna Barbera

Next up, we have the first of two songs in the shuffle from another favorite writer of mine.  Joanna Barbera - who played last year's E2TG Residency - is originally New York state. This is a 2018 single release.

"Love Supreme (Work Together!)" by Ron Gallo

Next up, we have a track from the most recent album by Nashville by way of Phlly band Ron Gallo. The album is called Stardust Birthday Party.  Seeing this band live for the first time stuck with me - they are that good.

"Empty Handed" by Mary Bragg

Going back to Mary Bragg's Lucky Strike album from 2017.  Her latest album is called Violets as Camouflage.  Another local writer I love.

"Too Far" by Joanna Barbera

We have our second track from Joanna Barbera - this from her 2013 album Forget. I consider Barbera an explorer.  Reading her back story - she has lived all over the world and explored many different spiritual paths.  I enjoy experiencing the journey through the music she makes.

"In This Together" by Andrew Adkins

Andrew Adkins has been an E2TG favorite for a while now.  His musical journey is one of exploration and change -as well. The consistency are the great songs he writes and his sense of speaking his truth without compromise. His music has been used a variety of projects - and from hints - I think this trend will be continuing.
"Electric Boogie" by Microwave Mountain

So far this shuffle has been mostly singer-songwriter types - with a couple of outliers. Microwave Mountain is one of my favorite local bands, and the band is led by Jamie Timm - who is one of my favorite people. He shatters every stereotype I have about Utah (this is not The Osmonds).  Sick Licks is the appropriately titled album by the band.

"Too Much of a Good Thing (Live)" by Walk the West

Next up, we have a classic track from Walk the West.  They were a frequent and favorite live act from my college days. The band recently played a reunion show with many notable Nashville singers trying to fill the shoes of the late Paul Kirby.

"Sick of Myself" by Warner E. Hodges

We close with a track from the 2017 album Right Back Where I Started by the one and only Warner E.. Hodges.  I have been watching Warner play guitar for going on 34 years.  He is still one of the most powerful guitarists around, still slings his guitar like a madman. He is a member of the Nashville legends Jason and the Scorchers and Dan Baird and Homemade Sin - in addition to occasionally leading his own band.  He is a past member of Drivin' N Cryin' and still occasionally joins them on stage.
