Friday Morning Music Shuffle - Crazy Flipper Fingers Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

First off, I witnessed a great night of music at The 5 Spot last night. Jon Latham, Allen Thompson, Zach Schmidt, Tim Easton, and Darrin Bradbury - powerhouse stuff there!  As a bonus, I get to stick around and see long-time Ear to the Ground favorites Year of October as part of the late show line-up.  I am really proud of how they have grown musically in the past few years since I first heard them.

Also, my review of the Wednesday Night Bobby Memphis Benefit show is currently (at press time) on the front page of No Depression, and although, I can admit that I always happy when something I wrote gets featured like that, what I really hope is that it leads some people to helping out a man who I do not know and did not know of, but who is obviously respected and loved by a large number of people.  You can read the review here.

Thursday Morning Music Shuffle - Beautiful Bones Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Another great night of music in Nashville - both the shows I saw and those I wasn't able to see (can only be in one place at a time!).  What I saw:  Lindsay Ellyn had her EP release show at Two Old Hippies in the Gulch, and once again demonstrated why I have been so impressed with her music since I met her last fall.  It's a simple formula that not too many can or will follow.  Start with great songs, surround yourself with top-notch talent, treat others kindly, and work hard. Her EP Out of Road is out and available at the usual places, and it comes highly recommended by #E2TG.

After Lindsay's show, I hopped over to 3rd and Lindsley for the Bobby Memphis Benefit show. It was a great night for a great cause, and I finally got to see the Human Radio live and her both their classics and some awesome new songs.  (Read my Review on No Depression). To donate to the Bobby Memphis fund - visit the Go Fund Me page.

Human Radio reformed at the end of 2014 and they are in the midst of a Kickstarter Campaign for a new album and tour

Whew!  Btw, another great night of music on tap for tonight!  Shuffle did you say?

Ever wonder what would happen if you created a playlist with a wide variety of music from different genres and different eras and then hit shuffle and wrote about the 8-12 songs that came up randomly during your morning commute?   Well, wonder no more, here at Ear to the Ground, we do this just about every week day and an occasional Saturday or Sunday if I am bored...  In fact, we did it today.... here's what happened:

So, I find myself short on time, so I have to speed through this. I hope you find time to dig deeper.  I could not find the exact track for all the songs for the Video Playlist, so you my have to do some internet searches.  Some great stuff, and well worth the effort.

New Release News:  Lindsay Ellyn Out of Road EP released today!

I met Lindsay Ellyn last Autumn.  I featured some songs from her Shores EP here on Ear to the Ground, and I have had the great good fortune to see her play live a number of times since then.  She has been hard at work on her new EP for some time, and it is finally released to the world as of this morning.  I will be grabbing my copy after work today, but based solely upon the songs I've heard (which are fabulous) and the quality of the people Lindsay worked with on the EP (which is stellar), I can easily recommend you give a listen and add it to your collection.

It is also available on Bandcamp and iTunes you prefer.

Friday Morning Music Shuffle - The Thrill is Gone Mix

Of course, the dominant news of the day is the passing of B.B. King, and my Facebook feed is filled with people from all different genres of music weighing in on the passing of this legend.  King's death comes just days after the death of a much lesser known Blues singer named Captain Luke Mayer at the age of 87 and serves as a reminder that we are losing/have lost so many of the greats of the modern music era. I do not see a need to compare and contrast the  lives and careers of B.B. King and Captain Luke (at least not here and now), just to say how grateful I am that the music will endure.  Which means I am grateful for all the groups and people who are making sure that the music lives on.  And for me that means, the preservationists and historians and traditionalists as well as those who are continuing to innovate to keep all forms of Roots music (no matter how broadly that term is defined) a living breathing thing.

R.I.P. B.B. King and Captain Luke.  Thank you for the gifts of your music.

Thursday Morning Music Shuffle - Weirdo Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Yesterday, I posted a listing of the live music I have seen this week.  Last night, I had the opportunity to visit the famous Cash Cabin in Hendersonville to meet and hear some really awesome music from a San Diego band called Talk Like June.  They have been recording at the cabin with John Carter Cash producing.  The music was great, and they stories and people were truly incredible. The spirit of Johnny and June Carter Cash is so present in that relatively small space.

Please understand, though, I gather no pleasure from seeing incredible live shows and meeting legendary music figures and all of that... I do it all for you dear reader - so that I may bring all of those experiences back with me and make Ear to the Ground the best it can be,  It's a dirty job, but someone has to do it...

Please don't feel too bad for me, though....

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle - One and One is Two Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

It's just Wednesday, isn't it?  Here is the run down of artists I have seen live since Sunday:

Sunday Night (Mad Donna's Loft):   Allen Thompson, Darrin Bradbury, and the legendary Don Schlitz.

Monday Night (Basement East): Darrin Bradbury, Erin Rae, and Kelsey Waldon and her band

Tuesday Night (Bluebird Cafe): a round with David Olney, Will Kimbrough, Brock Zeman, and Samantha Crain.

Being Nashville, the list of artists who play around town that I did not see is equally impressive.  And the week goes on....

I posted a couple more snippets of Scent of Revelation to Soundcloud. Check them out if you feel so inclined.

In other news, it is Friday, and this will be the 900th post since I migrated #E2TG to Blogger back in late 2011.  If I conservatively estimate that 90% of the posts have been Morning Shuffles and if I conservatively estimate that the Shuffles feature an average of 8 songs each, then I have featured over 6,400 songs during that time.

Here are ten more...
