Last night, I took in another edition of the long running (9 years) $2 Tuesday at The 5 Spot. Last night, started with E2TG favorite Andrew Adkins, followed by Ginger Cowgirl (who I had seen before at $2 Tuesday, followed by Derek Hoke and band, and in the late night hour it was the amazing Shannon McNally backed by a killer band featuring Joe V. McMahan, Jimmy Matt Rowland, and Toby Caldwell. It was, as it always seems to be, a great night of music, and a great hang.
On we go, to the Wild Wednesday shuffle - if you are new here, this is a random shuffle of songs currently saved to my phone. Let's go!

I'm a bit pushed for time... I was going to stay in last night, but after I got some things done for the Fall E2TG Residency, I decided to venture out to $2 Tuesday.
Joseph Bradshaw opened the show. He is a young Nashville based singer-songwriter, and I was very impressed with his songs.
Ohio based The Vindys were next making their Nashville debut. Really good soulful music.
Ben Stalets, also from Ohio, was next. Very entertaining and amusing performance - a great songs.
As always Derek Hoke brought it, backed by his regular rhythm section (Mark Robertson and Steve Latanation) and joined last night by Thayer Serrano on keyboard.
Hoke and Serrano were also part of the last act - called Magenta. It was a thirty minute improv psyche jam that also featured Steven Cooper and Michael Zimmerman among others. A great ending to the night.
Today, Darrin Bradbury announced the release date for his first album on ANTI- Records - it is September 20. He also released the title track - called Talking Dogs and Atom Bombs. I am so excited for Darrin and for the people who will experience his unique vision and voice. Of course, since you read E2TG, you have been in the know for years now.
Onward! We have a Wild Wednesday shuffle that features some new music and some not new music. Let's go!

A night at The 5 Spot - Anna Lindsay Sellers hosted a night - she played some of her lovely songs solo acoustic, followed by a great set from The Truehearts (they will be playing the E2TG Residency - back at The 5 Spot on October 9!), next was an acoustic set (sand drummer) from The Big Dumb - they will be playing (a more plugged-in set) during the 5th week on the E2TG Residency (which I am announcing now) on October 23 along with another local band which is still being confirmed!
The late featured The Lucky Dogs - led by Mike Cullison - and they were then joined by a powerhouse guitarist from Italy named Federico Baracchino.
Now - this week is winding down, so we are going to close it out with a Featured Friday shuffle! Let's go!

Got to catch Ryan Sobb last night opening for Becca Neighbor (who was fantastic). Sobb playing with his power trio with Preston Cochran (bass) and Chase Ballenger (drums) sound better every time I see them. I am so excited to have them be a part of the E2TG 8th Anniversary Residency on October 2 at The 5 Spot. Jason Erie and his band will also be on the bill that night making it a night you will not want to miss.
Now, it's time to jump back into our "Trending/New Music playlist" I loaded up with more new music last night. I broke my own rule and left the list at slightly more than 500 songs, but I will have it down to 500 by the end of the weekend.
Let's just jump to it!

On we go. As you know, if you read E2TG on any sort of regular basis, I make a concerted effort not to be a (fill in the blank) music blog. While, I frequently feature singer-songwriter/folk/Americana style music - I regularly cover about every kind of genre imaginable and few you might not have imagined. My rule is if I like it, I write about, and I have a diverse pallet of music I like.
Anyway, I think this Trending Tuesday shuffle is bear that out.

A fun night out. First up, the EP release show for Megan Palmer and Rayvon Pettis. Ryan Sobb opened the show with a solo set followed by Mercy Bell performing with Trace Faulkner.
Next up was Rayvon and Megan backed by a killer band: Griffin Winton, Bob Lewis, Jonathan Beam, and Aaron Shafer-Haiss. They performed the seven songs from the EP - 3 written by Rayvon and 3 written by Megan - plus an R.E.M. cover. Then they played a couple more songs, Rayvon Pettis' excellent Michigan Mansions and one of my all-time favorite songs, Megan Palmer's Knife Twister.
After that, I headed to the Inglewood Lounge. I am not sure why I took me so long to get to this cool spot right on Gallatin Rd. Last night, it was Luella and Kevin Gordon playing duo style. It was my second time seeing them in this format, and it was fantastic.
Okay - only six songs in the shuffle today - thanks in part of a relatively pain-free commute and an eight minute song. Let's get to it!

Here is an semi-official preview poster of the E2TG 8th Anniversary residency coming up in the Fall. I am excited about this line-up, and there is a slight chance I may have an additional announcement coming soon - or not. Who knows?
Meanwhile, we reached the mid-point of the week. Some time back, I came up with the name "Wild Wednesday" for this day when we don't shuffle from the "New Music/Trending Music" playlist but rather - we shuffle from all of the songs saved to my phone memory. The "Wild" refers to the fact that the songs in this shuffle can be anything (currently featured music, past featured music, all-time favorites, oddities that somehow got saved to my phone at some point in the past for reasons last to time, "classics" from the earliest days of E2TG and more (if that didn't over everything).

We are back! Let's see... Friday, I headed to Tennessee Brew Works to catch a pair of Kerrville New Folk Festival winners: Aaron Smith from Arkansas and Justin Farren from California as they kicked off a run of shows up the East Coast. Great beer, great food, and great hangs with new and old friends.
From there, I headed to The Basement to catch Matthew Paige (of Blackfoot Gypsies) - I believe my first time seeing him solo - he was fantastic, then Darrin Bradbury, and then Jeremy Ivey (recently signed to ANTI records (as was Darrin) with his band The Extraterrestrials. A wonderful night of music and another reminder of why Nashville is still a cool place to be a music fan.
Now, it is time to jump into another week of shuffles, and as always, we kick things off with shuffle from my Music City Monday Spotify playlist - compromised of new and older music from people who do or did once call Nashville home.
Let's just shuffle!

Okay - so Trending Wednesday doesn't really make sense, but since I need to clear space in my "New/Trending Music" Playlist and since there will not be a shuffle tomorrow - I went ahead and shuffled from that playlist today. We will return with a new shuffle on Friday!
Another Tuesday night out in Nashville and another reminder of why despite the growth and changes and loss of venues and all, Nashville is still a great music city. E2TG Artist of the Year 2015 Jon Latham joined Jon Byrd and Paul Niehaus for their weekly show at Dee's in Madison. Nice to see Jon and Jon playing together and it is always a pleasure to see Paul play. Jon Byrd plays a few weekly shows around town, and if you ever get the chance to see him - go.
After that, I headed to The 5 Spot for $2 Tuesday hosted by Derek Hoke. Congratulations to Derek and The 5 Spot for 9 years of this Eastside tradition. Chris Moyse (one of my favorite local songwriters) opened the night, followed by Thor Platter, Derek Hoke and band (with Jules Belmont - who was fantastic - on guitar), and Chip Greene rocking the late night hour. Jon Latham joined Greene to do Zevon's "Lawyers, Guns, and Money". As always Tim Hibbs was spinning tunes between sets and doing a fantastic job.
Now, let's shuffle!

We move on into the second half of 2019. It is Monday and so we celebrate the music of Nashville with our weekly Music City Monday Shuffle. It is Music City Monday if I say it is!
