Trending Tuesday Morning Morning Shuffle - Shit Gone Wrong Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

Still counting down to the E2TG Residency

September 25 - Week 1: Ben Arthur + Conrad y Skordalia

October 2 - Week 2: Ryan Sobb + Don Gallardo

October 9 - Week 3: The Truehearts + Jason Erie

October 16 - Week 4:  Josh Gray  + Meghan Hayes

October 23 - Week 5: Microwave Mountain + The Big Dumb

Well Americana Week in Nashville if officially underway. After recording a future episode of Double Shot - I stopped off at Dee's. When I walked in there was a guy on stage playing a sitar. He eventually played a cover of Nirvana's "Heart-Shaped Box" It was cool.  Got to hang with cool folks, caught a set from Darrin Bradbury and a full-band set by Ryan Sobb (a preview of what to expect on October 2) and Darrin joined in as they did Darrin's song "Myrtle Beach".  A weird, wild, fun start to a week of cool music and cool friends.

Let's shuffle!

"Rock it Like Fantastic" by Ariana Gillis

We start things off with another track from Ariana Gillis' fantastic, Buddy Miller produced, album The Maze. I think I am almost through the songs I have to feature from this album - which I dig very much.

"Grin" by The Gerbils

Next up, we have the first of two tracks today from the reissue of Are You Sleepy - the debut album by Athens, Georgia based band which was initially released in 1998. The album has been reissued by the newly revived Elephant 6 collective.  The Gerbils were originally from Ruston, LA. The main band members met while students at Louisiana Tech.

"Bound for Glory" by Will Payne Harrison

Next up, we have a rousing song from his new album Living With Ghosts. Still loving this album.

"Carry Me Away" by Katrina Parker

Next up, we have another track from Stars by L.A. based singer songwriter Katrina Parker. This is sharply focused pop music with a bit of a country twang. Parker is a world-class vocalist.

"Sunday Best" by Rod Picott

Rod Picott weaves stories in his songs that are not always pretty but which are honest and direct. "Sunday Best" from his Tell the Truth and Shame the Devil album is no exception. The narrator of the song looks back at childhood and memories of dressing up for church on Sunday become entangled in the real, flawed people who tried to look their best. I am planning to see Picott  at The Broken Jukebox unofficial Americana party at The 5 Spot tomorrow.

"Penny Waits" by The Gerbils

Next up, we have our second track today from Are You Sleepy. This is a wonderful slice of 90s fuzzy, indie-pop music of the kind that Elephant 6 is known. This album is the of an expected new wave of releases from the collective - formed by Neutral Milk Hotel, Apples in Stereo, and more.

"Antiques" by Susan Gibson

I just discovered that Susan Gibson wrote the title track to the Dixie Chicks Wide Open Spaces album. Her new album The Hard Stuff has really jumped into my consciousness. I am digging Gibson's songwriting - The album will be out in October.

"57 Flavors" by Ted Drozdowsk; Coyote Motel

Next up, we have the penultimate track from the first Coyote Motel album by Ted Drozdowski and company.  They have a new more stripped down "acoustic" album out now.

"Spin" by Summer Cannibals

We close out the shuffle with another track from Can't Tell Me No by hard rocking Portland, Oregon band Summer Cannibals. The band shares its name with a Patti Smith song from her 1996 album Gone Again.
