I am back after an unexpectedly long weekend.  I was under the weather Friday and so I stayed home.

I did make it out to the 14th Annual Get Behind the Mule: Tom Waits Tribute and Benefit at The 5 Spot on Saturday.  As always, it was an incredible event that raised money to support an organization that has been working to combat the issues of hunger in the Middle  Tennessee for as long as I can remember.  I actually have a 1985 vinyl compilation of local musicians that was done as a benefit for 2nd Harvest.

This year's tribute featured several of my favorite local artists (like Sally Jaye - backed by Brian Wright and Jon Latham - all two E2TG Artists of the Year, and one member of an E2TG Band of the Year), Laura Rabell, Raygun, Tom Mason, Afton Wolfe, Annie McCue, Ned Hill, Anana Kaye, Kevin Gordon and more!  What a great night!

Back to the recap of 2019.  We still have 114 songs left (after today).  You can get a preview of what is still to come on these recaps by visiting the Spotify Playlist I created.

The list today is a good representation of the diversity of music we have been fortunate enough to feature over the course of 2019.  Some only made one appearance, and some are from albums that we returned to time and again.

Let' go!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

This is my last day to remind you to make a donation to the WXNA Pledge Drive, but the drive runs through Sunday.

Time is marching on, and I am getting ready for a soft launch of E2TG version 3.0 soon.  I am going to make some decisions over the weekend about the timing of the changes.  December is historically the month we review the year that is winding down - which we do in the context of our annual awards - The Earies (tagline: They sound odd, but they really aren't)

Let's jump into this shuffle!

(SUCCESS!)
October 9 - Week 3: The Truehearts + Jason Erie (SUCCESS!)

October 16 - Week 4:  Josh Gray  + Meghan Hayes

October 23 - Week 5: Microwave Mountain + The Big Dumb

My heart is completely full after last night's show.  Thanks so much to everyone who came out, and to Jason Erie, The Truehearts, and their incredible bands.  We have two more Residency shows. Next up is a show featuring the artists behind two of my favorite albums of 2019.  Josh Gray and Meghan Hayes.  It will be Josh Gray's The 5 Spot debut (long overdue in my opinion).

By the way, I completely sold out on the physical copies of The Drift! Thank you to everyone who bought one.  It's not looking like I will get new ones in time for the show on the 16th, however, I hope to have more for the finale on October 23. In the meantime, you can get order the book via Amazon, and they also have a Kindle version available if that is your preference.

Let's get right to the Thursday Shuffle!

I owe you all a full-recap of Muddy Roots and of AmericanaFest. Right now, I am running head-long into the E2TG 8th Anniversary Residency - which begins one week from tomorrow!!!!!

I had an extra long commute due to traffic and stuff, so we have 13 songs in the shuffle today. I've been too chatty of late - so I am going to try to keep it short and sweet.  Let's go!

Made it back to Dee's last night for Madison Guild Monday for the first time in a while. Hosted by Tom Schreck.  Schreck opened with a full band set which he calls Tom Schreck Escapes.  As always great to see Tom play. His cover of "I Will Survive" was especially tasty.  Tommy Womack was next with a surprise solo set.  He will be back at Dee's Friday with a full band. He has a new single which is extremely timely.  Next up, a shared set from two of my long time favorites Kiley Connell and Drew Kohl. They were followed by the always impressive Connor Rand who had Nicole Boggs join him for a few songs. Excellent stuff. By that time, I was exhausted and I had to bow out before Nicole Boggs and the Reel played. Hate that.

I have a busy week of great live music ahead and lots to do otherwise. Plus it is way to hot. But, anyway - Music!  Today we dive back into the Trending playlist and we have some cool tunes for a hot day.

A night at The 5 Spot - Anna Lindsay Sellers hosted a night - she played some of her lovely songs solo acoustic, followed by a great set from The Truehearts (they will be playing the E2TG Residency - back at The 5 Spot on October 9!), next was an acoustic set (sand drummer) from The Big Dumb - they will be playing (a more plugged-in set) during the 5th week on the E2TG Residency (which I am announcing now) on October 23 along with another local band which is still being confirmed!

The late featured The Lucky Dogs - led by Mike Cullison - and they were then joined by a powerhouse guitarist from Italy named Federico Baracchino.

Now - this week is winding down, so we are going to close it out with a Featured Friday shuffle!  Let's go!
