Welcome back to E2TG! So, last night Amelia White wrapped up her month-long residency at The 5 Spot. As special guest Reckless Johnny Wales said, this means she is now a doctor! Reckless Johnny sounded fantastic - as usual - backed by Chris Tench on guitar.
Amelia had an incredible band backing her including Robert Mache from Memphis, Parker Hawkins, and Fran Breen. Plus Chris Tench sat in for most of the set. Special guest Julie Christensen added her legendary vocals to some of Amelia's songs plus did a few of her own songs. Surprise guest Tomi Lynn Lunsford joined Christensen to sing background on "Dogs Bark" and then stayed to back up the last song of the night. A wonderful ending to a fantastic residency.
Tonight: The 5 Spot is once again the place to be. Mark Robinson wraps up his Residency (I guess he will be a doctor now, too) in style. With an expanded showband with Mark Jordan and Ben Graves joining Daniel Seymour and Rick Schell. Plus the special guests are two of the finest vocalist Nashville has to offer... Jonell Mosser and Vickie Carrico. Noted music blog, Ear to the Ground called the Mark Robinson Band one of the best live bands around, and they have certainly lived up to that this month. Tonight will be one to remember. 6:00pm.

Tuesday Morningish Music Shuffle - Big Bird Mix
Tweet #E2TG
Hey Ho! Some days away and then some life events of the unexpected variety, but we are back with a music shuffle which was listened to this morning and also some bonus songs from this afternoon.... But which are coming at you at night. Whatever, it's all good music:
First of all, we have E2TG Band of the Month from August - Loner's Society with a song from their self-titled release. It's I'll Write the Sad Songs.

Aoede is a San Francisco duo who make some beautiful music. Skeletons of the Muse is their fantastic album that was released in early 2012. And Love Proof is the song we have featured today.

First of all, we have E2TG Band of the Month from August - Loner's Society with a song from their self-titled release. It's I'll Write the Sad Songs.
Here is a live performance from Loner's Society
Don and Phil Everly recorded as The Everly Brothers and made some sweet, sweet music. Today, we have one of their hit songs, Bye, Bye Love.
And closing out the morning portion of the shuffle, we have Harbor Lights from the King of Rock N' Roll Mr. Elvis Presley. The song dates back to the 1930s and was originally recorded in Polish. So there.
This afternoon, we were able to shuffle again and came up with two more songs:
The first is a song by the late Chris Bell of Big Star fame. His song I Am the Cosmos was released as a single in 1978 on Chris Stamey's label. Then, in 1992 it was included as the title track of a compilation of several of his 70s era solo songs.
And finally, we have a song from our friends, Cosmonauts. Emily's Surprise is part of the Daniel Raincourt saga.
Here's a single with more of the saga.
And the video for Emily's Surprise

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - Sno-Cone Mix
It's all but officially summer. Temps are supposed to climb into the mid to upper 90s here this week, and I'm sure the humidity will ratchet up and few notches. Here in the South, we know it's not the heat, it's the humidity....
Reminders: The Band of the Month polling has begun - exercise your right to check out righteous music and pick your favorite's here. (Voting continues until the end of the month, and this time you can come back and vote as often as you like).
Over the weekend, we offered the World Premier of the brand new promo video for our April Band of the Month - The Disappointment. The post which is here, also offered detailed to purchase and download the band's latest release and provided details for checking out the band live in Brooklyn. Again - it is here.
Finally - Ear to the Ground's favorite cartoonist (and an early and often influence on our tastes in music - as well as our partner-in-crime at a number of live shows in the late 80s and early 90s), Ron Ruelle has released a new book featuring the Sunday strips from his At the Zu/Darwin & Co. strips.
You can order the book here. And check out the dedication page!
One last thing before we get to the morning shuffle - Today is the 70th Birthday for the "Cute" Beatle (Paul McCartney) and another Paul (Weller) of The Jam & The Style Council, has released version of the Beatles' Birthday which you can download today only on Amazon:
Tonight, we plan to load in a ton of songs into the mix, but before we did, we thought we should take a shuffle through some of the coolest songs in our archives.
Blue Sky Mine the sort-of title track to Midnight Oil's 1990 album Blue Sky Mining found the Australian band and their politician/activist/environmentalist lead singer offering up a scathing indictment of the greed over people and the planet mentality, and doing so in an amazingly danceable format.

Don't Be Cruel was recorded in the summer of 1956 in New York City buy a 21 year old singer from Tupelo, Mississippi named Elvis Aaron Presley. The song was written by Otis Blackwell. The Jordanaires sang back-up on the record. When my daughter was in 4th Grade, I helped chaperone a trip to Memphis which included a tour of Graceland and accompanying us on the field trip was the grandfather of one of my daughter's classmates who happened to be Gordon Stoker - one of the original Jordanaires, how cool is that?
