Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I had a dental procedure this morning and have been recovering so forgive the late post...

Part 2 of our Featured Friday Recap (songs 11-16):

11. "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" by Molly Tuttle & Nathaniel Rateliff
A great cover from Molly Tuttle's surprise new collaborative covers EP.
12. "Hungover" by Goldwoman
Next up, a great song from this Brooklyn based singer-songwriter from a forthcoming album. The song is a true story of the morning after seeing an ex at a gig.
13. "Ain't It a Shame (When Your Horse Goes Lame)" by Wild Earp &  The Free for Alls
The next album from Chicago based Wild Earp & The Free for Alls is due out in July.  This is the first single. A fun song.
14. "Train Don't Stop" by Magnolia Bayou
We previously featured this band from southern Mississippi last year with the release of their album Strange Place.  Swampy hard rock - great stuff.
15. "Wine" by Simone
Next up, we have the new single from this 16 year old singer-songwriter from New York.
16. "Your Shit" by Tesla Shamans

Electric Storm  - the debut album from this hard rocking Italian band is out now. We previously featured their single "Shamans."  In case you are wondering, I will not be playing this track on the radio. :-)

E2TG 5/21/2021 - Featured Friday - Under My Skin Mix (Stop for a Minute Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Can you believe it is Friday?!  Actually, I kind of can... but anyway, it is time for another Featured Friday Playlist.  This week's list is a little smaller (we'll see how it goes but I am thinking about trying to avoid the extra long playlist for the foreseeable future).  But, a lot of that depends on the how much great new music is being released.  And I sure don't want that to slow down.

E2TG 5/7/2021 - Featured Friday - Pizza & Drugs Mix (Take Good Care Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

A busy week for new music, and that means a jam packed Featured Friday Playlist.  If you want, you can check out the whole list which is embedded just below or you can follow along all week as I recap the list in five segments.  Part 1 is down below the jump covering the first 15 songs.

It is also a good time to tell you that much of the music featured here is available on Bandcamp and that today Bandcamp is waiving revenue sharing to put more of the proceeds of purchases directly in the hands of the artists you and I love.  If you love independent music like I do, support the artists in the most direct way you are able. Bandcamp is one of the better avenues.

E2TG 11/30/2020 - Music City Monday and More - Hey Trouble Mix (Corner Linguistics Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well, we are back after the holiday weekend.  It is the final day of November, and we are preparing to head into the final month of this most strange and difficult year.  While, there are encouraging signs on the horizon - everything will not get better at 12:01am on January 1. We are in the midst of a deadly new wave of the virus and everyone needs to buckle up and do their part.

Meanwhile, we have some music to present.

With a shorter Featured Friday Playlist this week, we only have three songs in today's recap... Songs 8-10:

8. "The Work is Enough" by Joe Goodkin
First up today, we have the new single from Chicago singer-songwriter and E2TG favorite Joe Goodkin. A wonderful song with a great message that any artist needs to hear.
9. "Walk On" by Gyasi
Next up, we have the new single from Nashville glam artist Gyasi.  I have to admit - I have been aware of Gyasi for some time and maybe even seen them performing as part of a show or two, but I have been a little slow on the uptake, but I love this song, and I am hooked now.
10. "Father Christmas" by The Pinx
The Pinx are a rock and roll band from Atlanta.  Their latest release is an EP called Christmas Singles, and our first taste is this cover of one of my favorite holiday songs- originally recorded by The Kinks. Pinx...Kinks... ah! It makes sense now.

Tomorrow, we pick up our recap at song 11...

E2TG 8/03/2020 - Music City Monday - An Elephant Mix (Good Stuff Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Here is to everyone fighting the good fight - whether that fight is for equal justice and rights for all people or just a fight to stay afloat and alive during these challenging times.  Whether the fight is one of words and action against injustice or one of personal internal struggles in the face of unprecedented challenges.

You are not alone, and there are those of us who may not on the front-lines everyday, but please know that we have your back.

At times, I am overwhelmed by the evil and indifference, apathy, and even acceptance of evil. But, I am okay, and so I must push through those feelings - acknowledge them sure - but push through.

I don't always know exactly what to do or say in every situation and surely these are complicated times.. but standing for what is right and what is just in never complicated (unpopular and dangerous sometimes - sure - but never complicated).

Recapping this week's Featured Friday Playlist: Today, we have songs 8-12:

8.  "Don't Wanna Let You Down" by Jon Worthy
A true story of the first month of the pandemic. This new single is Worthy's first self-produced and self-mixed single. A great song.
9. "Moons of Titan" by Jon Hassell
Next up, we have the jazz pioneer - trumpet player and composer - who worked to integrate ethnic traditions with electronic music.  His new album - Seeing Through Sound - is a follow-up to his 2018 Listening to Pictures album - considered part 2 of his pentimento series.
10. "Pieces of Me" by Ben Arthur
Next up, we have the latest single from long-time E2TG favorite Ben Arthur - who kicked off our 2019 8th Anniversary Residency. He is host and creator of the Song/Writer podcast which features a prose story followed by a song written in response to the story.
11. "Lovely Melancholy" by Ten Penny Gypsy
Next, we have another track from the new album Fugitive Heart - by award-winning Arkansas country duo Ten Penny Gypsy.  This album - like their last was produced by Anthony Crawford.
12. "Hold on Hope" by Tayls
We close out this segment of music with the latest single from Nashville's Tayls - led by Taylor Cole (former front man of Chilaxy and current drummer of Creature Comfort).  The next in a series of cover singles - this is their take on the 1999 Guided by Voices song.
Tomorrow - songs 13-17...

E2TG 7/6/2020 - Music City Monday - Take Cover Mix (Doin' Fine Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

ICYMI, we premiered the new video from Afton Wolfe this morning.  You can read about and view the video, HERE.

Today, we recap the next four songs of this week's Featured Friday Playlist (songs 5-8)

5. "When I See You Again" by Tim Easton
First up, we have a brand new single from an E2TG and East Nashville favorite Tim Easton.  It is always good to hear new music from Easton. His opening solo set for all but one week of India Ramey's residency back before the lockdowns and shutdowns were wonderful.
6. "May the Stars Fall Upon Your Door - Live" by Andrew Adkins
We mentioned this release when we premiered Adkins new video last week, this is a newly release live recording of a favorite song of mine - from his new live EP called One Evening in Brooklyn: Live!
7. "Sweet Dreams, Pt. 2: The Nightmarish Nightmare" by Carrus & Kurtz
The Carrus & Kurtz train keeps rolling with the release of the third volume of their on-going The Genius Of... series of ambient bass and pedal steel recordings.  This one is subtitled Third Eye's the Charm.
8. "Bored Day" by Cameron Carrus
And finally, we have Cameron Carrus alone with a recent solo bass single that captures these pandemic days perfectly.

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - One Man Show Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

THIS IS NOT A WARNING!  ACT  NOW!  Secure your plans to kick off the E2TG Residency in style with Ben Arthur and Conrad y Skordalia this Wednesday at 6:00pm.  Book the babysitter, make your excuses for the boss, send your regrets for all of the conflicting events.

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Who'd've Known Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

No April Fool's Day jokes here at E2TG..,

Here we are at the beginning of another month. It is easy to despair in these times. Very easy to despair.  I still believe that as Martin Luther King, Jr said,  "...the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice."  It can be easy to doubt this when your focus is too narrow.

A  few years ago, when we were seeing several positive developments (i.e. the affirmation of same sex marriage), I predicted that we would see counter reaction. I'll be honest, I never expected the reaction to be as powerful as it has been, but I still believe it is just a reaction to the overall progress.

This does not lessen the need to continue to fight and resist.

Well, it is Monday, and we have another super-cool "Music City Monday)  featuring some of my favorite musicians (some of whom are among my favorite people).  Let's shuffle!

Topical Thursday Morning Shuffle - Walkin' Blues Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

In light of some recent headlines... I need to restate something I have been posting since January... There are still known and avowed white supremacists in positions of great power in the Executive Branch of the United States of America in 2017.  This is the world view that is behind the decisions being made and it is the true undercurrent of the phrase "Make America Great Again".  Please know that the last thing I want to devote time to on E2TG is politics, but I also believe that silence is acceptance - so since I cannot accept this, I must not be silent. #Resist #Persist
*****************************************************************************

On a happier note, I made it out to The 5 Spot last night to check out Lynn Tayloe and The Barflies plus Stuffy Shmitt.      In additional to the Taylor and Shmitt, I had the great opportunity to see some of my favorite players - Sergio Webb, Chris Tench, and Parker Hawkins.  It was another great night of music in Nashville.

Well - it is Thursday - somehow - and that means we post from our current Topical playlist - which continues to be songs covering the 6 year history of E2TG.  Let's shuffle!

Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Burdens Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Here we go...

There are obviously many great music venues in Nashville, but consistently, my absolute favorite hang in The 5 Spot.  Last night is a pretty good example of why I feel that way.

It was Week #4 of the June Don Gallardo residency at The 5 Spot.  Jon Byrd played with his full band and it was amazing as expected.  Don Gallardo brought his full-band and I swear he seems to get better every time I see him (degrees of awesome - I would say).

The late show at The 5 Spot kicked off with new Nashville resident Sammy Brue (if you have not heard his songs - do so right away), followed by Joshua Black Wilkins - consistently one of my favorite singer-songwriters, Ron Gallo (who I will come back to), and the last act I saw before exhaustion got the better of me, John and Rob from Deer Tick (and Diamond Rugs). A pretty extraordinary night.

So, I had not heard of Ron Gallo which is  band and the bandleader. They are recent (I think) transplants from Philadelphia.  I (along with the rest of crowd at The 5 Spot) was blown away. The band is a trio (amazing how many of my favorite bands throughout the years are trios).  If you are among the people who think that Rock 'n' Roll is dead, I urge you to check out this band and have your faith restored.  I do not count myself among that particular crowd, but the energetic, loud raucous performance sure did affirm my faith.

Quick note:  There is a ton of things going on this weekend.  I feel like if I begin to name some, I will leave out something unintentionally, however, there are a few things I want to highlight.  Of course, Tim Carroll returns to his weekly home at the aforementioned 5 Spot for his Rock 'n' Roll Happy Hour,  Charleyville is a non-profit agency that provides free or discounted music lessons, instruments etc. There is a three day benefit at the American Legion Post 82 in East Nashville that began last night and continues through Saturday.  Details/Event Page HERE.  Adeem the Artist is playing tomorrow afternoon at Two Old Hippies in the Gulch (right after Double Shot with Joe and Sue).  A couple of years ago, I saw a singer-songwriter named Kyle Adem at a New Faces night at The Basement.  I enjoyed his set.  Adeem the Artist's lastest album is called Kyle Adem is Dead - which reflects the fact that sometimes there is much behind a change of name.  I mentioned Daphne Willis at Nashville Pride. If you are making it out to the festival - make sure you check out her set and all of the great music.  I previously mentioned Mark Robinson at the brand new Radio Cafe.  And a ton more Saturday night. Get out and see some music.

Friday - it is time for Featured Friday....

Friday Afternoon Music Shuffle - What's So Funny Mix

I took the day off work and barely saw the morning....  so no traditional shuffle but I did run an errand earlier and shuffled a few tunes.... Plus I had some other things to share:
