Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Small Repairs Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed seven - January - Junly2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

E2TG January 2018
E2TG February 2018
E2TG March 2018
E2TG April 2018
E2TG May 2018

E2TG June 2018 NEW!
E2TG July 2018 NEW!

Wednesday is the tipping point, it is now socially acceptable to start looking forward to the end of the work week. As a bonus, we have a three day weekend coming up, AND we are into the final three days of the month. September is looking to be a very busy month for E2TG so buckle up.

If you have been paying attention around here, you know Wednesday is the day we get "wild".  Our Wednesday shuffles come not from one specific playlist but from all of the songs currently saved to my phone.  This usually creates an interesting mix of old and new songs - where E2TG favorites exist alongside some of the many legendary figures. You may hear some of the music we are currently featuring, but you are just as likely to hear music we previously featured or classic tunes from my personal collection.

Enough talk, let's shuffle!

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle - Gaggle Mix

Over the last week or so, I've had several friends here in Nashville mention the strange activity of our local avian population.  As a fan of (and one scarred for life by) Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece, I am intrigued. Is it the above average temperatures or does it foretell some darkness to come...  Who knows... we have gaggle of songs so let's get to the shuffle...

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - Back on the Chain Gang Mix

Monday and I find myself back in a familiar routine.  ICYMI - check out my review and listen to a stream of Sci-Fi Romance's new album, The Ghost of John Henry, which is due out tomorrow.  We've also hooked you up with links to pre-order the CD or the download.  GO!

Now, it is Monday and we have our regular morning shuffle.  Still digging into the downloads added in April, tons we haven't played let so let's get to it.

1.  Pistols and Radio Signals is the title track from an EP by Nashville-based neo-classical punk band  Dogs of Oz. Grab the EP below and go to Bandcamp to check out the rest of the band's catalog. This band of teens are the real deal.  According to their page, they are doing some recording with a member of Cage the Elephant which should produce so cool sounds. Lead singer/guitarist Greyson Anderson used to be this quiet kid in my daughter's pre-school class.  Funny how time slips away.

2.  The Only Place is the title track from the forthcoming Best Coast album.
                  Grab the single here:

You can "wishlist" the album here:

There is nothing unexpected here, but it's Best Coast and even the expected is pretty darn good.

 3. J'ai Fait Un Reve (I Have a Dream) is another track of the Revolution album by DRUNKSOULS.  The French reggae rock band's second album is an ambitious collection of great sounding music for  the modern age.  Check out Revolution below.

"Thank goodness . . . for Mark Steel. Engagingly lighthearted while clearly thorough, the author has taken the events of the French Revolution and given them a human face, as well as neatly poking fun at the over-pomposity with which our recent historians have dealt with the period."-The Observer "With Vive La Revolution Steel] examines the raw material of 1789, not so much in search of laughs as in an attempt to reclaim the first popular revolution from the dry historians."-Scotsman "A cross between a history of the French Revolution and a spirited defense of the ideals that inspired it."-The Independent "Steel expertly guides the reader through the philosophies, protagonists, failures and serious legacy of the events of 1789."-Guardian Vive la Revolution is an uproariously serious work of history. Brilliantly funny and insightful, it puts individual people back at the center of the story of the French Revolution, telling this remarkable story as it has never been told before. For the Haymarket edition, Steel has added a new preface for North American readers and revised the book to address parallel themes in US history.

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle - Reverse Course & Full Stop Mix

The edge of town to the middle of the road... Night fell and somewhere a band was playing, "There Goes My Baby", and the singer wasn't very good, but he was perfect for the moment.  You and I stared out into the distance and dreamed about a better day which secretly we never believed would come our way.  But, there is a time for everything and season change and the world moves on.  On a night, no unlike the other, I found myself down at the edge of town in the middle of the road, and somewhere a band was playing...

In the U.S., it's tax day - pushed back due to the 15th falling on a Sunday and yesterday being an obscure holiday in Washington D.C. So I could have subtitled this post, Tax Day Blues Mix or something... but I didn't.

We open up today's shuffle with a random discovery from the Noisetrade site. Joey English is a singer-songwriter from Knoxville, Tennessee. Today's track is called You Are On My Mind. Go to Noisetrade or use the link above to view his album on Amazon.

Here is a video of another Joey English song, Got to Go

Next up, we have a cover song.  Sad Baby Wolf are from Albuquerque, New Mexico which includes a couple of ex-Shins.  Here they do a cool cover of Neutral Milk Hotel's Everything Is the title track from the 1994 EP (link below).

Below is an other track New Survival Guide from Sad Baby Wolf

Song number three is from band, I've just been asked to given a listen to, so you get to go along for the ride with me.  DRUNKSOULS are a Reggae-influenced Indie Rock band from Marselle, France. The have a relatively new album called Revolution and today we listen to Drifter Song the lead track from the album.

Here they are playing Drifter Song at Grand Auditorium du Palais des Festivals de Cannes at a benefit for African Reggae star TIKEN JAH FAKOLI.

Finally, we end up with our old friends The Dead Exs with another track from their Resurrection album.  This one is called Angel from New Orleans.  The Dead Exs are going to be part of the top secret project I am working to complete for Record Store Day.  Stay tuned for more information about that.

Below is a The Dead Exs' contribution to this year's Couch by Couchwest.
