Featured Friday Playlist

Hey, it's another Friday and that means another Featured Friday Playlist is up on Spotify (see the list embedded below:  This week's list features Dean Fields (whose new album While The Baby Was Sleeping is due out March 6),  Jen Starsinic (whose Bad Actor EP dropped last week, Matt Megrue (an old friend of E2TG with Loner's Society - his new The Mourner's Manual also dropped last week), Paul Burch (fellow WXNA DJ with a track from his album Light Sensitive - due in April), Eric and the Anti-Vaxxers (a new Nashville band I am stoked about), The Danberrys (with Darrell Scott) (long time East Nashville staples with some new music), Kalee Smyth (another old friend of E2TG with a taste from her forthcoming The Ceiling - due March 13), Sammy Brue (with the title track from his forthcoming album), deFrance (who will be playing the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown in April - I will be co-MCing that show), Jon Magnusson (old friend of E2TG with a live version of one of his best songs), Brian Revels and the Heat Lightning (an Atlanta singer-songwriter - who comes highly recommended by some of my Nashville faves), The Barefoot Movement (a long-awaited new album from the roots band - that I met at Cash Cabin a few years back), and Harry Stafford (new music from the frontman of 80s Manchester band Inca Babies)

The Spirit of David Olney

The late David Olney was originally scheduled to play last night's show at Douglas Corner featuring E2TG Band of the Year favorties BARK. Nashville legend, Tommy Womack stepped in, and while David Olney was/is/will remain greatly missed, one could scarcely ignore his presence during both sets. Both acts covered David Olney songs during their set, but that was just part of it. In particular BARK's songs from their most recent Terminal Everything album seem particularly timely.  "Walk Small" hit hard - about losing someone who humbles you. And "Big Ol' Party" reminds us to love those who are still with us.
Womack brought along a killer band - Guitarist John Jackson, drummer Jonathan Bright, and David Olney's long time bassist Daniel Seymour. Saying he asked him self "WWDD (What would David do?), Tommy Womack opened by reading Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address (on the day after the 211th anniversary of Lincoln's birth) and then launched into timely and powerful version of one of his newest songs "Well Get Through This Too".  Powering through some of his best material, throwing in a choice Government Cheese song, and covering The Beatles and Velvet Underground. The band delivered.  It was a wonderful night of music on the "west" side of the Cumberland River.

Kristen Englenz presents Rebound (Official Video)

Coincidentally, Tim Lee also appears on this compilation album.

"Slag Heap" by Them Airs (from Union Suit XL)

"The Cattle Call of the Would-Be" by Kleenex Girl Wonder (from Ponyoak 20th Anniversary Edition)

Our first listen to the forthcoming (March 13) reissue of Kleenex Girl Wonder's 1999 album.  That day, we are also getting some bonus material. I saw KGW at Athens Pop Fest a few years back)

"Wildman of the Thicket" by Jim Wyly (from The Artisan)

"Help Me Let You Go" by The Slytest (from Epic Ocean Love)

"Nothing is Real" by Stuffy Shmitt (from Twelve Songs)

What can I say about Stuffy Shmitt...

"Waffle House Song" by Jane Kramer (from Valley of the Bones)

Making me hungry this morning... Jane Kramer is from Asheville North Carolina.

"Vegan Chicken" by Nulberry (from Vegan Chicken)

A 2018 single by this band from Daytona, Florida

"Young Black James Dean" by Justin and the Cosmics (from PERF)

We close with a tasty bit from Nashville's own Justin and the Cosmics - from their album recorded live to tape at Adent Studios in Memphis.  This song also appears on their Schooly Dayts album.
