I'm doing a super quick mix today, but for good reason, I used my lunch hour to walk a couple of blocks to see legendary (I mean LEGENDARY) sax man Bobby Keys with his excellent band that includes former Georgia Satellite and current leader of Homemade Sin and member of The Bluefields Dan Baird. I only had time to stay for the first part, but they ripped through a set that included a few Stones songs, a George Harrison number, and Joe Cocker's version of the Box Tops' song.  All of which featured Mr. Keys in their original versions.

Here at E2TG we are all about adapting to circumstances beyond our control. Most of our best ideas were born out of necessity...

With my earphones still on the fritz (although I'm suspecting it may be the earphone jack - which would suck since I'm just 10 months or so into a two year contract...), I decided to make some changes.

The first part of today's mix came from a drive across town I took last night while the second part is from this morning's commute.  It all washes out, and we have 12 great songs for your enjoyment and edutainment.

As I write this, I hear thunder behind me and the gentle, almost soothing sounds of car tires moving across wet city streets. It's August 20, 2013, and I am alive, and though not perfect by any means, life is good.

Some days I want more out of life, but for me that is just a normal state of being. The key for me is to find peace in the now without thinking this is where I will and must always be. 

As of this date, I have been writing Ear to the Ground for 2 years and about 3 months. The blog has not made me rich or very famous, but I consider it a huge success nonetheless. Because of the blog, I've been fortunate enough to meet some incredible and talented and just generally good people. I heard tons more music than I would have had I not written the blog. Every so often, I see one of my quotes in the promotional material of a band I've written about.

I'm not sure why I'm writing all this right now, but it seemed like as good a time as any to remind myself why I do this.

Nice morning has turned into another dreary day here in Nashville.

Ear to the Ground has been featured by a cool music blog called newgazzi! Check it out.

Currently, the playlist from which the Shuffles are drawn is up over 300 songs.  Tons of new and new old music were added over the weekend, and more will be added soon.

For me, every mix is unique and has value.  Is this the best ever mix? Probably not, that will be Monday or some other time (or many other times in the future).  This is a good mix - a damn good mix.  Why?  'Cause it has some of my all time favorites, a couple of brand new (to me) songs that I really dig, a nifty cover, a diverse but not crazily diverse mixture of songs (although I love me some crazily diverse mixtures), and it forces me to break a long-standing officially unofficial blog policy.... but we'll get to all that.

August 6 - Nashville... overcast skies, rising humidity, but still an ever so slight chill in the air.  Changing lanes, changing gears, but it all still seems the same. Perception in the mind's eye. Do we have the power to change our destiny or are we merely pawns in a cosmic and eternal game, we don't even understand?  And what does it matter? Does it matter?

Lost in my thoughts - at times dark, at times trivial. Okay - often trivial. Seeking inspiration. Finding it in the diverse music of people from all over the world. Different voices, different musical choices. For some music is a commodity, for me it is a life blood.

This year has been incredibly busy and has left little time for reflection. It's been a great year for music - both in terms of great new music from "old" friends and great music from new friends.  I've done a massive overhaul of the Playlist from which the daily mixes are drawn.  As always  I will be adding new music as it comes to me, but I've stocked up the playlist with some of our favorites from 2013 so far...
