E2TG 5/12/2020 - What,Me Worry? - Wings of Love Mix (Smoke More Pot Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Near as I can recall and tell, E2TG began on May 15, 2011. So, Friday will be the official ninth anniversary of this blog.  I find it a little hard to believe in some ways, but in others it is hard for me to remember when E2TG wasn't a part of my life.

I have featured a lot of music here over the years, and I have been fortunate enough to meet a ton of awesome folks either directly or indirectly because of E2TG.

So, as we move into the tenth year of the blog, I think I want to focus on making what I do be better rather than focusing on what I don't do. I have had ideas for 2020 that for various reasons have not come to fruition. Some, I still hope will come when the time is right, some I have reexamined and am going a different direction.

I have a process down for sorting through the dozens of e-mail inquiries I receive every day. It is not perfect, but it is manageable for me. I generally do not reply to e-mails - unless a specific question is asked that seems like it needs an answer. I would prefer to answer all, but this was a decision based upon the time I have available.

I do hope you will check out the Upcoming and Recent Release list at the bottom of this e-mail.  There is a ton of new music being released, and I can't always specifically highlight it all. I do get a lot of inquiries for album reviews and song and/or video premieres. I don't really do full album reviews, and while I have done a few song and video premieres, it is not something I do on a regular basis. I love to them, but again time is the enemy.

Anyway, on to the Wednesday shuffle.

    Featured Friday Playlist

Wednesday Morning Shuffle:

"Criminal" by Ships Have Sailed (from Moodswings)
We start with a track from the 2015 release by the L.A. band who we featured about five years ago.
"Hell is a Teenage Girl" by Aimee Steven (from single)
Next up, a recent single and recent Featured Friday Playlist add - from this UK singer-songwriter. Dig this song.
"Smoke More Pot" by Ali Handal (from That's What She Said)
A 2017 release from the Texas based singer-songwriter who we first encountered a while back when she was singing with Raindoggs. Handal has become an E2TG favorite.
"Ludwig Meidner" by Mayflower Madame (from Prepared for a Nightmare)
Next up, we have another 2020 release, and I think we have had them in the Featured Friday playlist before. Mayflower Madame are from Norway. The released their debut in 2016, and I really dig their sound.
"Wings of Love (Alas Del Amor)" by Stuffy Shmitt (from Dog Steal the Moon)
We close with the lead off track from former MTV personality Stuffy Shmitt's 2002 album Dog Steal the Moon.  A beautiful song from a beautiful person to close out the shuffle.

Topical Thursday Morning Shuffle - Cape on the Floor Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

It's been a few days since I added any commentary to the current state of things in this country and in the world. Honestly, I am overwhelmed and exhausted by it all - but I am fighting to stay alert. In some ways, I see hope in the mounting investigation over Russia, but beyond and president or administration, I am deeply concerned about the ever-widening divide in this country.  I am also concerned about the potentially lasting damage being done to the environment, to basic human rights, to our country's reputation, and on and on. #Resist #Persist
********************************************************************************

Well, it's a wrap!  Thanks again to everyone who came out last night for the finale of the E2TG Residency at The 5 Spot.  FuzzQueen rocked as expected and won over some new fans in Nashville and Amelia White was awesome with kick ass band - The Blue Souvenirs.

And thanks to everyone who came out, played, and/or played a part in making this month really special and something I will never forget.

Onward and Upward...  a couple of notes:  Sunday June 4 marks the One Year Anniversary of the beginning of broadcasting at WXNA.  They are celebrating at Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge from 3-8.  Everyone is invited - and you should come - this is YOUR community radio station.

Monday June 5 is the Jon Latham benefit at The Basement East - a pretty killed lineup will help raise some more money for Jon Latham who - as you may know - had some major health issues earlier in the month.

On Thursday's we shuffle songs around a topic.  Earlier this year, the topic was centered around the times in which we live.  For the 6th Anniversary, I began a new theme around a playlist of artists we have played/written about over the entire six years.  We will continue that for a while... Today's shuffle includes songs that span the years and diverse music styles we have featured.

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Things Come to Me At Night Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Greetings and salutations...   It is Tuesday!

Tonight a couple of events worth noting (among many cool things happening I am sure).

1.  East Side Storytellin' is a great series that pairs a songwriter with a poet/writer. It is held at the Post East and starts at 7:00. Tonight is their 85th edition and features writer Joshua Moore and reigning E2TG Artist of the Year Jon Latham.

2. A stellar local lineup at The Basement East beginning at 9:00.  Carl Anderson, Peyton Parker, Adrian+Meredith, and 2014 E2TG Artist of the Year Darrin Bradbury fresh off his star turn on Music City Roots.   That's right, two E2TG Artists of the Year in one night.

On Tuesday, we post songs from our Trending Tuesday playlist which includes new music, songs we have decided to feature, and assorted other goodies.  Dig in!

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - It's Too Late Mix

MAY 18. The 5 Spot. 9pm. $5. Be there!

Hey - welcome to Tuesday.  E2TG turns 5 this month, and I am going to reflect on this milestone throughout the month.

Other than the incredible people I have met as a result of writing this blog, my next favorite thing has been all of the music from all over the world that has come to my ears. Music, I might otherwise never have had the opportunity to hear. Not only that, but I am fortunate enough to get to write about and try to help spread the news about this great music.

Let's jump right into the Trending Tuesday shuffle which contains some music that fits that last description.

Thursday Morning Music Shuffle - Suffered for Your Sanity Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I had a fun time last night.  Jeff Blaney and band started a month long residency at The 5 Spot.  Renee Wahl was the special guest the first night. She was backed by Daniel Seymour and Patterson Barrett.  Her songs and her voice were as spectacular as always.  Jeff Blaney's band included Seymour, Justin Amaral, and Chuck Foster on keyboard.  They sounded great.

Before that show was over, I had the great opportunity (thanks Mary) to get a sneak peak at the newly renovated 12th and Porter which is set for some Grand Opening shows this weekend with shows by Chuck Mead and Humming House.  The venue had a long history in Nashville, and it was good to see it ready to open once again. The free food and drinks were nice, too.

Back to The 5 Spot in time to catch the tail end of the beginning of the Whiskey and Women night with Michaela Anne.  Also on the bill, Joanna Barbara, Lauren Farrah, and Jesse Lafser.   Quite an amazing night of music.

Tonight, The 5 Spot is the place again to settle in for the night...  It is night one of another residency, this one featuring the great Paul Burch and the WPA Ballclub. Burch was one of the artists who helped to revitalize lower Broadway in Nashville in the early 90s. Burch and the WPA are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year with the release of Meridian Rising (about the life of Jimmie Rodgers) on Plowboy Records (featuring Jon Langford, William Tyler, Billy Bragg, and Tim O'Brien).  This residency is a don't miss kind of Nashville event. Special guest tonight is another of Nashville's finest songwriters, Kevin Gordon!

A last minute cancellation set the stage for a pretty killer late night show featuring 2014 E2TG Artist of the year, Darrin Bradbury; 2015 E2TG Artist of the Year, Jon Latham; Chris Watts, Elli Perry, and Buck N Stuff (a Buck Owens tribute band that features East Nashville stalwarts, Adam Kurtz, Cameron Carrus, and Lemuel Hayes).

I am looking forward to tonight!
