E2TG 2-26-2020 - GFN #3 - More - Pearly Gates Mix (Coney Island High Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Greetings from Nashville Episode 3:

The third edition of my new WXNA show, Greetings from Nashville will hit the airwaves at 6am tomorrow morning.  I hope you will tune in to 101.5FM if you are in Nashville proper, or wxnafm.org wherever you are.  If you won't be awake between 6 and 7, you can catch the show on our archive.  Episodes 1 and 2 are up now, Ep. 3 will be up shortly after the live broadcast ends.
I have a good show lined up - with darker, more noisy tracks to start the show (from today back to the mid 1980s) - segueing into some more songwritery music and more.  I am continuing to feature some of my favorite local music.
If you have an independent Nashville band from say 1980 to now, that you think I need to cover, e-mail me at gfnonwxna@gmail.com.

More:
  • Meanwhile, the next Double Shot falls on Leap Day, February 29, and in that spirit, we are playing songs about leaping, jumping, hopping etc.
  • Piggy-backing on some of my recent writing, I have been focusing my thoughts on what is important. It is sometimes easy to say what is important, but then, the way one spends ones time and money tells a different story.  As we, the collective "we", are being pulled in so many different direction, and as there are voices (internal or external) which try to dictate our priorities. I am reminded to follow that still, small voice which provides a true north.  For me, that north includes creative discovery and cultivating new friendships.
Anyway, onward!

Wednesday Morning Shuffle:

A delightful mixed bag today. Some old friends, some 2019 submissions, and some obscure and not-so obscure gems.

"Coney Island High" by The Everymen (from New Jersey Hardcore)

New Jersey band. The video is a performance of this song from their final show in 2017.

"Petty Tom"  by From Carbon (from Existence)

Manchester band from their 2019 release.

"The Ace" by Bill and Colleen Cade (from Bill and Colleen Cade)

Father and Daughter duo from Texas. A beautiful song. Sadly, Colleen Cade passed away in a car accident shortly after this album was released.
"El Camino Real" by The Luckies (from East of Eden)

Canadian band from their 2019 album.

"Pearly Gates" by The Men (from Tomorrow's Hits)

Brooklyn punk band led by Mark Perro from their fifth studio album released in 2014.

"In the Corner" by Paul Zografi (from Big Hotel)

Local favorite. He has some new music either out or coming out soon.

"Give in to You" by Jennifer Lyn and the Groove Revival (from Badlands)

North Dakota blues/rock band. From a 2018 release.

"Rolling Along" by The Mavericks (from Brand New Day)

2017 album by the band that formed in Miami and who are now based in Nashville.

"The Sun" by Chris J. Connolly (from Moving Maps)

Long Island based singer-songwriter from his 2017 album.

"flaring up" by ricky mirage (from pop goes the sun)

Chicago based artist -  from a 2015 release which came to me via a recommendation by Aaron Lee Tasjan.

Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Law and Order Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

The Drift - A Novel by Joe Wolfe-Mazeres Available at Amazon.com (Kindle edition also available)

Well, I still have a couple more posts (one done and one not done) to go to finish off 2018, but it is 2019 and I am back to work.  So... here is our first shuffle of 2019. It is Wednesday - so let's get wild! It's been a little while since we did a Wild Wednesday shuffle - which is where we shuffle all the songs in my phone.

I have a huge collection of music to add to the mix to begin 2019. This is music accumulated from late November until now that I didn't get a chance to upload in December. I'll hopefully be getting that done tonight.

For now, let's shuffle!

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Alright, Alright Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Good day, hepcats!  Had a blast seeing Matt Phillips and The Philharmonic out at Charlie Bob's last night.  The band sounded fantastic and it was great hearing how much Matt's sound has evolved since I saw him last year at Music City Roots (which was awesome, too by the way).  I hope he makes it back to Nashville for a more extended visit.

Lots on the horizon, trying to keep all those juggles balled... no wait, that is not it...

It's Tuesday!  Time to find out what we have "Trending" on E2TG.

Thursday Morning Music Shuffle - What We Want to Be Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Okay - posting late.  Life happens sometimes.  Here's some stuff:

Coming soon, the 1st Annual #E2TG Awards 2015 - which I am calling The Earies (tagline: The Earies, it sounds strange, but it's not really).  Watch for this beginning after Thanksgiving.

Last night, an awesome show at The original Basement.  Actual Wolf  killed it with the kind of band that really only happens in Nashville  (Adam Kurtz, Jerry Pentecost, Paul Niehaus, Stephanie Dickinson with Nellie Clay joining on bgvs)    After that 14 year old wunderkind Sammy Brue had the audience enraptured with his incredible songs.

Really proud that my review of Dan Penn at City Winery in on the front page of No Depression right now.  Check it out, if you haven't.  Nodepression.com

Just a heads up... there will not be a Morning Music Shuffle tomorrow.  Plan accordingly...  So this will be the last shuffle of the week, and we have a good one...

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - Ooh La La Mix

New Release News:  Lindsay Ellyn Out of Road EP released today!

I met Lindsay Ellyn last Autumn.  I featured some songs from her Shores EP here on Ear to the Ground, and I have had the great good fortune to see her play live a number of times since then.  She has been hard at work on her new EP for some time, and it is finally released to the world as of this morning.  I will be grabbing my copy after work today, but based solely upon the songs I've heard (which are fabulous) and the quality of the people Lindsay worked with on the EP (which is stellar), I can easily recommend you give a listen and add it to your collection.

It is also available on Bandcamp and iTunes you prefer.

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle - One and One is Two Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

It's just Wednesday, isn't it?  Here is the run down of artists I have seen live since Sunday:

Sunday Night (Mad Donna's Loft):   Allen Thompson, Darrin Bradbury, and the legendary Don Schlitz.

Monday Night (Basement East): Darrin Bradbury, Erin Rae, and Kelsey Waldon and her band

Tuesday Night (Bluebird Cafe): a round with David Olney, Will Kimbrough, Brock Zeman, and Samantha Crain.

Being Nashville, the list of artists who play around town that I did not see is equally impressive.  And the week goes on....
