Tomorrow night is the kick off of the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown VII.  Night 1 will be at Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge.  Night 2 (Saturday) will be at The 5 Spot.  And Night 3 (Sunday) will be a house show in Oak Hill. 

One of the featured performers on Night 1 at Dee's is an E2TG favorite - David Newbould. 

How people choose to navigate through life’s highs and lows reveals a lot about their personal character, not to mention what they’re willing to do in order to get to the other side of the horizon. Chronicling these seemingly endless cycles of daily peaks and valleys forms the backbone of  Newbould's 2019 album, Sin & Redemption.

Got out last night - visited Sid Gold's Request Room and partook of food from the Dreamers food truck.  Dreamers was started by Doug and Telisha Williams (aka Wild Ponies) and photographer Laura Schneider after the pandemic shut down their normal careers. 

The story of Dreamers* is inspirational in the best way. A prime example of turning adversity into triumph (and not personal triumph so much as triumph for the world). The Roasted Vegetable bowl I had was delish, too.

I can't believe it is time to wrap up this week's Featured Friday Playlist (As always we saved some great music for our final segment) Songs 47-55

47. "Knocks Me On the Floor" by Julez and the Rollerz

Southern California rock and rollers (formerly known as Julez) with their latest single. We featured the first single a few weeks back.

48. "Gravedigger" by The Damn Devils

Recorded remotely over the internet (which they were doing before the pandemic). This band features two brothers-in-law and a childhood friend of one of them. Brought together life-long love of rock and roll. 

49. "How to Weigh a Whale Without a Scale" by Leanie Kaleido

The title track from the recent album by this UK singer-songwriter. The album was produced by Ride front man Mark Gardener.  Kaleido's father was the original lead guitarist for the Yardbirds. 

50. "The Call" by Death of a Legend

This is the third single (and our second feature) of the rock and roll band who emerged from the hardcore scene in Milano, Italy. 

51. "I Am the Dance Floor" by Art d'Ecco

A fascinating artist from Vancouver - who brings a classic style and a modern sound - blurring whatever lines he can. I dig this a lot. 

52. "Landscape Simulation" by The Green Kingdom

The Green Kingdom is the solo project of Michael Cottone a sound artist from Michigan.  This was released on sound of silence records - a diy label from Athens, Greece.

53. "Through Somebody Else's Eyes - Leaether Strip Remix" by Nature of Wires

Nature of Wires is a UK artist who have been doing originals and remixes since the mid 1980s.  Here they get the remix treatment from the legendary Danish EBM artist Leaether Strip. 

54. "High Teens Low Twenties" by Ritual Cloak

Single from the forthcoming Divine Invasion album (due May 7) by this band from Cardiff, Wales (yes more Welsh music.)

55. "Monsters Mind Consuming" by Manntra

And we end on a high note with our second track to feature from this Balkan folk-metal band who combine Croatian folk influences with metal and industrial music from an original sound. A great way to take us out.

I have always tended to like snow and icy weather. When I was a kid, it meant we were out of school and I loved playing in the snow. I guess, overall, I still do like snow- at least in theory and at least when I can stay warm inside and watch it... but I really don't like the cold or the inconvenience of it all - places closed, roads dangerous, people dangerous.  But, lately, here in Nashville, we don't get much snow, so it is kind of exciting - at least at first. 

This particular winter weather event is, I guess, a little more annoying that usual. This is supposed to be my week to "get on with life" and the snow and ice makes it feel like I am being hampered from getting on with life... 

Featured Friday Playlist (Songs 12-15)

12. "Better Days" by Jennifer Tefft

The new single from this singer-songwriter based in New England. Tefft is a cancer survivor who underwent an unexpected divorce and was just emerging into a new life of teaching music and touring around New England when the pandemic hit. This beautiful song is her response and it offers hope to many of us who have faced our own versions of her story. 

13. "Waiting on You Tonight" by Beth Lee

The debut solo album from this Austin, Texas based singer-songwriter who has released albums previously with Beth Lee & the Breakups.  This album was recorded in the East Bay area of California. Wonderful stuff. 

14. "Stars" by Brian Falduto

Next up, we have a recent single from NYC based queer country singer-songwriter Brian Falduto. A great introduction to this artist. 

15. "WFTWTE" by Arrlo

 We close out this segment of music with a recent single from this Riverside, CA indie band which is fronted by transgender male singer-songwriter Sunni Suede. An awesome song and a great way to close out this part of the playlist.

 Life is overwhelming - maybe it always is... and yes, sometimes you need planning and coordination, but for people like me it is a fine line between planning and coordination and obsessing and worrying. Sometimes, you just have to make it up as you go along and trust in something - God, the cosmos, fate? that things will all come together and even if they don't come together - you will still have a chance to figure it all out. 

Featured Friday Playlist (songs 32-38)

32. "Saw Daddy" by Common Sage

First up today, we have a wonderful track from Might As Well Eat The Chicken, We Won't Be Here In The Morning - the brand new EP from New York band Common Sage. The album comes out a period of transition for the band which preceded and coincided with the pandemic. 

33. "Girls Just Want to Dance" by Modesty Blaise

Next up, we have the lead single from the forthcoming new album from this UK Avant-pop band. Really great stuff. 

34. "Talk to Me" by Emperor Penguin; Orbis Max

This new release - Corporation Pop! - contains all three of the band's earlier EPs plus four new tracks. It serves as a great introduction to this London based band. They have a wonderful sound - check it out.

35. "Kill" by All Hallowed

Next up, we have the stunning debut single from this Dayton, Ohio based band. It is described as dance punk - and that comes through in the grooves and the power of the relatively short track. 

36. "Screaming Into Oblivion" by Sharone

Next up, we have the latest from Denver based dark rock artist Sharone.  Cool tune. 

37. "Sunshine" by Jacob the Horse

Next, we have the first single in four years by the band that formed in L.A. and which features all east coast natives. Really cool pop punk sound. 

38. "Judgement" by Genus Ordinis Dei 

As always, I save one of our more interesting tracks to close out the Playlist for the week. This is - I believe - our second time featuring this symphonic death metal band from Italy. The album Glare of Deliverance was released in December, and is a concept album of a sort - each song stands alone and the band is releasing videos for each songs as "episodes". This is Episode six.  Check out the band to see the videos.

On we go...

I wanted to mention a "Save the Dates" for an upcoming event at The 5 Spot that will feature some artists you've heard and heard about on E2TG.  April 26 and 27th will be the 4th edition of the Magnolia Roads Hoedown, and E2TG is thrilled to have been asked to be a part of this great event - which will benefit the Ben Eyestone Fund at Musicians Health Alliance. More information to come - including some interviews with some of the featured artists (like we did last year).

In the meantime, we have another Trending Shuffle.  A couple of first listens are included and some great tracks from albums we have been featuring of late.
