One day at a time - it is a cliché I guess, but honestly it is a good way to live life. Grief and stress can be overwhelming - especially when you are trying to imagine days, weeks, months, and even years ahead.  So, you focus on getting through today - sometimes you have to break the day into hours, etc. 

For me, as it has been for as long as I can remember music provides healing - it doesn't have to be "healing" music.  Sometimes it is silly or loud or aggressive or pretty or complex or simple music. 

One thing taking an unexpected extended leave from E2TG has given me - is a chance to once again reevaluate where I am and where I want to be. About the only decision I have made is that there is nothing to be done but to move forward.  If I try to "catch up" on the music I missed in January - I will just keep getting further behind. I have been slowly working my way through e-mail and have begun to update my future release lists.  Honestly, I mainly use that for my own purposes - but if you check it out - you might find out about an upcoming release you didn't know about. 

I uploaded a bunch of music to my phone last night (my memory card is almost full - I need a bigger card - which are now cheaper than what I paid for the one I have.

The 2020 hits keep coming - and not in the good sense of hits.  By now, most of you not from Nashville have read or heard about the Christmas morning bombing in downtown Nashville. The good news is that I and everyone I know is okay. The bad news is the damage and destruction to historical buildings and buildings where people live and work. Temporarily, a lot of people were cut off from technology and communications.  

There is a lot not known. It appears to be the work of one man. His motive is the stuff of speculation but regardless - the city must once again try to come together and get through this.  

Now, we return to our recap of the Featured Friday Shuffle with songs 41-47:

41. "The Infinity Line" by of1000faces

of1000faces returns to the E2TG playlist with the title track from the new album. This is the solo recording project of Chicago based Matt Walker (drummer and producer) whose credits include Morrissey, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, and Filter. 

42. "Can't Let It Go" by No Trombones (feat. Sakari)

Next up, we have the new single from Montreal based No Trombones featuring vocals by Chicago native and L.A. based Sakari. A great addition to the playlist.

43. "Our Year" by Jane and John

Next up, we have a single from this UK based duo that formed during quarantine. Jane and John are the middle names of C.J. Wadsworth who had never been in a band before and M.J. Hibbett who claims to be an "international rock star" who is best known for "Hey Hey 16K" which was a number one hit in IT departments if not on the charts. 

44. "Shame" by Tristan Wood

Next up, we have the title track from the new EP from this emerging singer-songwriter based in Seattle. Tristan was part of the HIGHSCHOOL Nation tour in 2018.

45. "it's u not me" by Dafna

Next up, we have opening track from I LOVE YOU - the new album from this Boulder, Colorado based singer-songwriter. I dig the sound.

46. "The Power of Love" by The Autumn Killers

How about a cover?  Up next, we have a cover of the Frankie Goes to Hollywood hit via this rock band from South Wales. The  track is included in Acoustic and Autumnised - the new EP which features new arrangements of all the songs from the band's debut EP Dance Floor Mayhem plus this track. 

47. "Blue" by Fellow Hollow 

And, we close this segment of music with the opening track from Violet Paper Wings by this Columbus, Ohio based duo of Andrew Gavin Williams and Luke Elliot Fleeman.  A great tune to close out this part of our Playlist.

Time marches on... we are now into the final week of April, and although so the decision to start reopening some things is happening in some areas, we are still a long way off from many music related functions from opening, and that is assuming that we do not have a resurgence in cases.

I know many people and small businesses are suffering. For those us who are faring relatively well, the need can be overwhelming.  My best advice is to support the venues and artists that mean the most to you and do so in a way that makes sense for your situation. I have tried (emphasis on tried) to match my giving to the money I would have been spending if I was able to out. Everyone's situation is different, and so there is no wrong answer here.

Mostly, what I want my readers to hear - is that regardless of the orders and openings in your area, it is important to be safe and to still stay home as much as you can.  No matter which models or philosophies that you chose to believe, it is clear that we are not at the end of this pandemic, and the possibility exists for a comeback. At a minimum follow the guidelines of health officials regarding masks and social distancing. We are all restless and eager to get back to "normal", but to rush this will only delay things and will likely cost people their health and their lives.

Meanwhile, I am going to do my part to feature some new and not so new music here from the comfort of my home.

Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown V - April 25 (Hoedown Preparty April 24)

Super-excited for the Fifth Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown. This year will be an all-day affair at The 5 Spot on Saturday April 25, and a Hoedown Pre-party on Friday April 24 at Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge.  There have been some changes since the last time I teased this event. Check out the posters below - lots of E2TG favorites in the line-up this year. I am going to be co-emceeing on Saturday.

We are gearing up for the grand finale of the E2TG 8th Anniversary Residency.  I am very excited for this one.  I hope you can make it out!

I got to see one of my musical heroes last night. Mike Watt brought his Missingmen  to the legendary Exit/In.   It was a very fun show - lots of Minutemen song plus some choice covers.   Great night overall - with Nashville band Look What I Did  opening, followed by Memphis band Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre.

Wow! It's December..... It's about time to dive into the 2018 Earie Awards!  Is this the third annual Earier Awards?  I think that's right - maybe fourth annual - who knows... As always, it will different than prior years and I'll be making it all up as I go along...

Another work week is upon us...

The world seems pretty sucky right now.  Votes are being suppressed and stolen, the free press is under attack, the government is trying to erase trans people.  For god's sake if any of these things bother you, VOTE!  Early voting is going on or starting soon in most places. VOTE early, vote on November 6. VOTE.  If you have the ability, convince other like-minded people to vote, offer to take someone to the polling place.  I am hopeful of a Blue Wave, but fearful that something will stand in the way...  If it doesn't happen, I am truly afraid for what will happen to this nation.

I have been saying for almost two years, I am not someone who wants to get political.  I believe that differing political opinions should be celebrated. I don't believe that what is happening now is political. Children in cages, white supremacists being emboldened, the rule of law being trashed, reporters being targeted and murdered.... These are not things that either conservatives or progressives should support.

God, I need some music now!  Here's a nifty shuffle of artists connected to Nashville, Tennessee.
