E2TG 3/12/2020 - Something - Move Mix (Shine Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

We are living in strange and difficult times to be sure. I am not sure what to say.  Listen to the advice being given regarding precautions for COVID-19.  Even you are are healthy and young, think about those who you know and love who are not.  Take care of yourselves.  Do what you need to do to be safe and keep others safe, and I hope to give all of you a big hug when we get to the other side.

My favorite East Nashville hang - The 5 Spot - which has been home to all of the E2TG Anniversary shows has made the decision to close for at least the next month.  It was, I am sure, not a decision made lightly or without much deliberation and study of the facts at hand.

This will be a hardship to many people - the staff and the bands who play there - most of all. They have created a GoFundMe to raise money to support those most affected by the closure.  At least donate the amount you would  be spending there anyway.

More than ever, I am going to need music to keep me going.  Here is today's shuffle.

First listen to this alternative band from Pittsburgh.

"I've Been Here Before" by Christopher Sky (from Vastness)

"Move" by Matt Phillips and Philharmonic (from a Digital compilation of songs)

We have a older song from an old friend of E2TG - Matt Phillips is based in North Carolina. We first met him in person at a Music City Roots show in Franklin several years back.

"Tiny Steps" by Kamala and the Karnivores (from Typical Girls Vol. 5)

Next up we have our first listen to this recently released 5th valume compilation of female fronted punk/indie/whatever bands from around the globe. Kamala and the Karnivores is Berkeley, California based band led by drummer and songwriter, Kamala Parks.

"Hurricane" by Katey Laurel (from Periscope)

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed seven - January - July2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

There have so been so many times... but there was a turning point when it went from being political to being personal and moral. I know what that point was for me.  For me it was when then candidate Trump mocked a reporter with disabilities and lost not one bit of support. More to the point, it was when people who know me and who know my daughter continued to support this candidate. It felt to me like he was mocking my daughter and some of my friends and family were cheering him on. That was the turning point for me, and it has only gotten worse and worse and worse, and it is every single day. And, I am getting tired of it. Tired of seeing people who I know - who I know have different political beliefs - demonstrating their utter lack of humanity. I honestly don't know how we come back from this place, but I want the bleeding to stop. I am going to Vote in November - like my life depends on it.  If you feel the way I do, I hope you will, too.

Time to dive back into the "New Music" playlist.  We have a bunch of new stuff and a fairly wide range of music.  Let's go!

Last night, I made it out to Madison Guild Monday for the first time in a while.  Such a fun event - always hosted by a songwriter - last night it was Nick Nace.  I was late and missed Sean Quinn and some others, but I did get to see Chris Moyse, J.R. Wyatt, Nick Nace, and Jon Latham. Plus, I got a chance to hang with some wonderful people.  It was Kristen Englenz's birthday, and I figured out it was my half birthday.

Well, yesterday was Music City Monday, but as we head into Trending Tuesday, we have a very heavily Music City-centric shuffle.   Let's just get to it!

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Bring Me Down Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

At long last, I am ready to start revealing the line-up for the E2TG 7th Anniversary Celebration.  Like last year, we are hosting a residency.  This year, it is every Thursday in June!  There are four weeks in June and four more days in this week, so the plan is to reveal the line-up for a different week each day. I thought we would be linear and start with Week1 - June 7, 2018!

Rayvon Pettis is the reigning E2TG Artist of the Year, he is great guy, and an incredible songwriter. I am so stoked to have him as part of my residency.  Yesterday, when I was on my way to my epic dental appointment, I listened to the title track of his awesome album, Dying Light, and it straight up gave me goosebumps.

Rayvon will be backed The Big Dumb. The Big Dumb features Javi Jones, Anna Harris, Griffin, Stephen Nicholas Roberts, and Daniel Dolive.  Besides being great musicians and a super tight backing band, The Big Dumb features several great songwriters and they are one of my favorite bands.  They stay pretty busy backing other people and doing other cool things, but when they play their own set, they totally rock. So, I am thrilled to have The Big Dumb doing a set of their own.

When I first heard about Clark Paterson, all I knew was that he was really tall (keep in mind I'm not really all that tall, so most people are tall to me) and he had a big beard. On his album The Final Tradition, he cuts a pretty intimidating figure. When I finally met him, he turned out to be a really nice guy. As for the album, it is among my favorites. I am excited to have him and his band opening the night.

The line-up is stacked and full, so we will try to start close to on-time - so make plans to arrive.  Thursday June 7, 2018 6:00pm, at The 5 Spot.

On to our shuffle!  We start with a #TwoferTuesday which we do every time it Tuesday and our random shuffle brings up two songs in a row by the same artist.

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Dark Days Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Had a great time the Julie Christensen and Stone Cupid CD Release Show last night at the Basement. Renee Wahl opened and she was fantastic as always.  And as expected, Stone Cupid rocked the house.  Julie Christensen delivered some powerful vocals and the songs - originals and covers by Darrin Bradbury, Tim Easton, and Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan hit all the right notes.  A Sad Clown is a wonderful followup to The Cardinal and it finds this veteran singer/songwriter/performer continuing to grow and develop.

I got home and was able to load three new albums into the shuffle.  Two of them show up here today. It is Tuesday and time to see what is "Trending" on E2TG.  We do that by shuffling up the "New Music" playlist.  Here is the result for today:

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle - Gratitude Redux Mix

It's that time of the year to become reflective and to find things for and about which to be thankful and grateful.  Each year seems filled with so much good and bad things, and yet it all seems to go by so fast. So it is good to pause now and again.

As a blog, we here at E2TG (meaning me) continue to be amazed and grateful for all the great people who have read and been a part of this extended experiment. I'm always grateful for the now accepted ubiquity of the term curate (which it seemed to me used to be reserved for museums and such). Now, whenever I don't have much time to comment on the songs I present, and I begin to wonder exactly what it is useful that I am doing, I can just remind myself that I am curating this amazing collection of music, and that makes me feel very special indeed..... ;-)

Let's jump to our final shuffle of the week and our final shuffle of November 2013
