Irish singer-songwriter Ronan Furlong kicks us off with his latest single - which brings him back to E2TG. 

14. "Today I Ride Alone" by Gary Hector

From American Trash - which we previously featured, we have another track from this Americana artist from Trinidad and Tobago. 

15. "You Never Made It That Far" by Keeley

Bay Area singer-songwriter Keeley also is a return artist with her latest. 

16. "Said Your Name" by Film School

We next have the second single from the forthcoming We Weren't Here (September 24) from this long-running L.A. shoegaze band. 

17. "My Radio" by Curt Chambers

Next up, we have the lead track from the recent 85 South EP from this Philadelphia native who mixes authentic hip-hop, r&b, and country. 

18. "The Gallery" by Lindsay Jarman

Next up, we have the third single and title track from the debut album by this Atlanta based singer-songwriter. The album is due out Friday. 

19. "Diogi" by Los Blancos

And, we close out this segment of music with a track from the new EP by this Welsh band  (yes another band from Wales - I feel like I'm becoming a Welsh music blog, but there has been so much great music, I am not complaining). This new EP was created during quarantine and features each band member contributing the sound.

Next up, we have a 27 year old singer-songwriter from the UK with his most recent single. 

20. "Better Now" by Mothgal

Next up, we have a Nashville based American-Australian pop duo of Courtney Wray and Alex Tomlins. This is their first release. 

21. "The New Normal" by Christina LaRocca

And, we close with a new single from L.A. based Renaissance woman Christina LaRocca with a song she started before the pandemic which took on some added meaning over the last year and a half. A great song to close out this segment of music.

First up, we have the first new music in three years from this award winning Welsh band. I am once again impressed by the quantity and quality of the music coming out of Wales these days. 

40. "Doin' Fine" by Mode Shifter

Next up, a searing rock and roll number from this South Australian singer-songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. 

41. "Reload" by The New Black Diamonds

Next up, our second track to feature from this Swedish rock band.  I am blown away by this band. Great stuff. 

42. "Up in the Air" by SYTE 

Next up, we have this alternative R&B/indiepop band who are based between Kosovo and the US. Groovy song. 

43. "The Change (feat. DMA's)" by What So Not

Next up, some great electronic music from Australia. I dig it.

44. "427" by Glostik Willy

Next up, we have an eleven minute jam from this hippy metal band from Indiana. Joined here my Doug Wimbish.  

45. "Behind the Mask" by Dead by Design

And, we close out the week with a track from the new EP Into the Night by this hard rock/metal band from Seattle. A great way to close out this week of music.

Heading into another week of Music.  In other news, I will be getting my 2nd dose of the Pfizer vaccine on Wednesday. Hoping for the best as far as side-effects.  Had only minor arm soreness with the first. Regardless, having had COVID, I expect whatever the side-effects - they will be better than the alternative. 

I am somewhat positive about seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, but I am still a bit worried that we will see another spike or two along the way, and I hope most people will do what is necessary to keep everyone safe. 

A big Featured Friday Playlist this week - so we have to cover a log of ground today (songs 17-26):

17. "Everything Begins, Everything Ends" by The Gracious Losers

We open this segment with a track from the EP Six Road Ends by this Glascow-based Celtic Americana band.

18. "It All Started in the Garden" by Dick Aven

Next up. we have the title track from a new album by this multi-instrumentalist based in Franklin, Tennessee. Interestingly, this came to me from one of my favorite UK publicists/pluggers. 

19. "Living in the Last Days" by Elizabeth King

Next up, we have the title track from the new debut full-length album from 78 year old Memphis based sacred soul sing Elizabeth King. This is something special.  

20. "Die Young" by Soo Line Loons; Car'ma

Next up, we have another track from the forthcoming self-titled album by this Minneapolis band. We have been digging their music a log as of late. 

21. "Haunt" by All Hallowed

Next, we have our third track to feature from this Dayton, Ohio based dance punk band. I have to admit that dance punk was not a term I knew before hearing this band, but it makes sense to me now, and I like it. 

22. "I Love You" by Modesty Blaise

Next up, we have a track from the new album from this avant-pop band from Bristol, UK.  It is our second track to featured from their just released self-titled album. The band has a colorful history that began in 1993.

23. "High Price (for Peace of Mind)" by KISS KISS BANG

Next up, we have a single from the recently released EP Hungry, High & Seeing Things by this rock band from nearby Bowling Green, Kentucky. 

24. "Antelope Winnebago Club" by Departure Lounge

Next up, we have the lead track from the 4th album and first album in 19 years by this band - whose is based between southern England and right here in Nashville. The album features the four original members of the and special guest Peter Buck (R.E.M.).  Dig this a lot. 

25. "Let the Music Play" by Ben Gorb

Next up, we have the new single from this Manchester, UK based artist who released his debut album last May. 

26. "Circles" by The Brother Brothers

And we close out this segment of music with the final pre-release single from the forth-coming Calla Lilly (April 16) from this duo from Brooklyn. Great stuff and a fine way to close out this segment.

Our Featured Friday Playlist Recap picks back up with songs 17-24:

17. "Nocturnal" by Black Needle Noise (feat. Helena Mamich)

First up today - we have the latest single from legendary producer John Fryer's Black Needle Noise project - here he is joined by Croatian-Australian soprano Helena Mamich.

18. "The Man" by Society 1 (feat. DMC)

Next up, we have a collaboration between L.A. band Society 1 (led by Lord Zane) with special guest DMC (as in Run DMC).  This hard hitting track sounds like a match made in...well - maybe heaven isn't the right word here... but this is damn good.

19. "Working Class Hero" by MANCHO

Chicago musician, producer, and music educator Marshall Greenhouse records as MANCHO, and he just released his cover of the classic John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band album - which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. MANCHO calls his version Plastic Oh No (2020).

20. "44HH" by Makoto San

French label Chinese Man Records introduced a new series of releases meant to highlight new artists.  The series is called DIG IT! and the first single came out earlier this month, and this is it.  Cool stuff.  The second is out now as well.

21. "All Right" by The Sacred

Next up, we have some hard rock from Nashville! The Sacred are a four-piece band - this was my introduction to them, and I dig it. The band have been crowd-sourcing their debut album.

22. "Mercury in Retrograde" by Departure Lounge

Next up, we have the first single from the forthcoming reunion album by this UK band - whose initial run was from 1998-2002. Peter Buck of R.E.M. plays on the new album Transmeridian which is due out next year.

23. "Cancel Cult" by Pushing Veronica

L.A. band Pushing Veronica believe rock and roll should have a message and that the message should be loud. This new single features a video that includes imagery from A Clockwork Orange. 

24. "Save My Heart" by Madisyn Whajne

And we close out this segment of music with the title track from the debut album by this Canadian First Nations singer-songwriter. An impressive debut, and a great sounding record.

 I heard this recently: "When you meet a true friend, you will be bound together though space and time for 500 years."  I don't know if it is true or not, but it does reflect a little about how I feel about friendships. I think about people who were an important part of my life in a particular place and time.  Life moves on, and I have lost touch with those people - either physically lost touch or emotionally I no longer feel connected in the present. But, regardless, the connections that originally formed cannot be broken. 

What I mean is (for example), sixteen year old me will forever be linked to the people who were my true friends at age sixteen - even if 54 year old me doesn't know or can't related those same people today. 

This reminds me of my thoughts about moments in time. I think back even just five or six years ago, and where I was and what I was doing and who I was with - and for sure much has changed in that time. I think by that point in my life, I was aware that moments in time are fleeting. I still have a tendency to want to recreate past moments rather than forge new ones, but I guess that is human nature.  

I am rambling now - but the take away for me - is to enjoy the people that fate or circumstance have brought into my life. Make the most of the moments. Try to preserve the good things and hold onto the good friendships but recognize that change is inevitable and it is actually a good thing. If life never changed, it would be boring. 

Today our Featured Friday Recap continues with songs 16-20...

16. "What a Wonderful World" by Black Needle Noise (with John Fryer & Tom Berger)

We start off this segment of music with a stunning cover of the Bob Thiele and George David Weiss classic first and most famously recorded by Louis Armstrong. Black Needle Noise is the project of legendary producer John Fryer (we have featured this project numerous times. Fryer - whose production credits read like a complete listing of early electronic and industrial music - Depeche Mode, The Cocteau Twins, Nine Inch Nails, and Stabbing Westward to name just a few. Fryer is also a member of This Mortal Coil (one of two constant members of that band).  This is from the covers album This Mortal Cover. Here is teams with Tom Berger. The results are extraordinary.

17. "Song for a Cowboy - Live Acoustic" by Maxximo

Next up, we have a track from New York pop singer-songwriter Maxximo from his Live at Home EP - recorded under quarantine. We have featured Maxximo before. He is a gay Mexican immigrant, and I just dig the spirit and energy of his music.  

18. "Haluum Pois" by Bad Sauna

Also making a return trip to the Playlist is Helsinki based rock band Bad Sauna with their latest single with translates to "I Wanna Get Out".  This is another great song from the band - who have announced that their debut album will be out in December. It is called Olen rikas sillä minulla on teidät (“I’m Rich Because I’ve Got You”)

19. "California" by Malin Pettersen

The last time we caught up with Norwegian singer-songwriter Malin Pettersen, she was singing about Nashville - on "Wildhorse Dream". The album was, in fact, recorded in Nashville. Now, the album Wildhorse is out, and we are featuring a song about California.  The song and its title belies the strong Laurel Canyon influences on Pettersen's music, and she wears those influences well. I am enjoying this album very much. 

20 "Old Guitar" by Matt Eckstine 

We close out this segment of music with Savannah, Georgia based singer-songwriter Matt Eckstine with a track from his new album Lil' Blue.  The underlying theme of Eckstine's work is described as hold fast and roll with the tide - which seems good advice for these times. This is a terrific song, and I look forward to featuring more from this album.

Well, we have reached the end of a another week.  I am so ready for the weekend.  I am going to start a few hours early....

I will say before we dig into the brand new E2TG Featured Friday Playlist - VOTE! Make a plan.  Check with your State and local election officials. There is a definite and concerted effort in some locations to suppress voting.  Don't let them win.  Know your rights and exercise your rights. 

One more thing, before I just jump into the music - at this point, the people I truly don't understand are the undecided voters - I understand them less than Trump voters. Trump voters are part of a cult, so their behavior is predictable and easily understandable if you understand how cults work.  But, the people who are on the fence - that I have a hard time understanding. To me the choice is stark and obvious.

And, I am back. I am fortunate to still be working my day job, so my typical weekday daytime is pretty much the same as before - except for the fact that I am working from home now - which come to think of it is quite different than before...

My weekends are much different and to be honest, I haven't not been one of those hyper-productive people during this time. For me, often just getting through and getting by is all I can achieve.  I have been cooking more than before.

Anyway, it is Monday which is the day we dig into my massive Music City Monday playlist and see what comes up.  It is always interesting how the random shuffles I do turn out. I am not an expert on randomness or on the particular methods used by programs to simulate randomness. I do know that patterns sometimes seem to emerge from random occurrences. Random shuffle have been a big part of E2TG since before the beginning actually. Sometimes, I wish some newer song would come up or feel that a particular album or artists comes up too much or not enough, but overall, I believe in the concept of letting the random shuffle determine the playlist for the day....

Happy Monday!  It is another week and another month here at E2TG. I hope you will check out and follow our Featured Friday Playlist.  A new list will be up every Friday. Thank you to everyone who has followed us so far. 

I am excited to announce that I will have something exciting to announce very soon.  It involves me and Nashville music, and that is all I am liberty to disclose at this time. Was that vague enough?  Nevertheless, it is exciting. 

Quiet weekend, but I managed to see some world-class music.  Tim Carroll, Fats Kaplin and Kristi Rose and the gang, and Mike Cullison and the Lucky Dogs. 

I've been getting some computer stuff set up at home so I have been slow to get new content posted, but it will come. 

Let's see.  Daniel Seymour and Mark Robinson are hosting Madison Guild Monday at Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge tonight.   Their guests include E2TG favorite Tiffany Huggins Grant. Should  be a nice Monday hang with great music.

Hey!  Right off, I just to warn you that this is going to be a crazy week.  So, apologies in advance if some of my content is lighter than usual. 

One thing  going on is the Spring 2019 Pledge Drive for WXNA!  We are in the process of moving into a new space and along with the general costs of operating the station, we rely on our community for support. The Pledge Drive is a great time to give - you can make one-time donations or set up a recurring donation. They have some great thank you premiums.  I know that some of the past gifts have been highly coveted, but they are almost always only available during the Pledge Drive. Many shows are having people provide matching donations, so be on the look at for that information to make your donation go further. 

I will be on the air with Sounds of the Bayou with DJ Cajun Mitch from 6-7pm tonight and working the phones from 7-8pm.   During the show, Fats Kaplin and Kristie Rose will be matching donations.

Saturday, I hung out at The 5 Spot all night.  First up, was Brett Ryan Stewart - who delivered a great set - backed by band that included his wife Rosemary, plus Anana Kaye and Irakli Gabriel. Up next, was Amelia White (who it was great seeing upon her return from a UK tour) backed by her Blue Souvenirs (Parker Hawkins, Paul Neihaus, Justin Amaral, Johnny Duke, plus Julie Christensen on bgv for a few songs). 

The late show was the Harvest Spoon benefit and Neil Young tribute. I don't have enough time to tell you all about this, but it was as good as I expected.  Bob Lewis, Meghan Hayes, Paul Neihaus (again), Rorey Carroll, and Bones (The 5 Spot co-owner) performed some classics from Neil Young's extensive catalog.  Then, host Jason "Shakes"delivered a very funny stand-up routine, followed by a ace band - led by Jay Rutherford and Aaron Mortsenson of Los Colognes performed Neil Young's album Harvest Moon from front to back - aided by great musicians and an all-star cast of singers.

The show ended with all performs from the show plus Lilly Hiatt and Allen Thompson - doing "Rockin' in the Free World"
