E2TG 5/26/2021 - Sometimes you feel like a nut... - Meds Mix (Owl Doom Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

You know the drill - I am running short on time and a ton of music to get to today.. or no further ado...

Featured Friday Playlist recap Part 4 (songs 23-28):

23. "Flute In Da Hood" by Ambulance On Fire
First up, we have the opening track from the debut EP by this Lithuanian alternative electroacoustic folk duo.  A really fascinated release worthy of your attention.
24. "Hole In My Heart" by The Low Countries
Next up, we have the lead track from a new EP from UK band The Low Countries - some really lovely UK folk pop with a murky back story and a great sound.
25. "Mr. Wolf" by Hans Deville (feat. Andrew J. Davis)
Next up, we have the second single from the forthcoming Prophecies of the Lost (due out in August) from the lock-down album of the guitarist of the UK band King Prawn. Great stuff.
26. "Infernal Heads" by CULT OF DOM KELLER
Latest single from the experimental rock group that formed in 2007. With elements of industrial and psych. I dig this.
27. "I Better Run" by Napoleon (feat. Shane Told)
Next up, we have the new single from Toronto based alt-punk band Napoleon.  This track features Shane Told of Silverstein. Fast and noisy just the way I like it.
28. "Moebius" by Trio Nilo
And, we close out this section of music with a new single from this Spanish progressive jazz - a wonderful instrumental track and a great way to take us out of the playlist for today.

Diving back into live music tonight and tomorrow... social awkwardness combined with COVID-era awkwardness will abound, but I will have fun, too.

Tonight: Mark Robinson early at Dee's and Brian Wright with Falcon Ranchero late at Dee's

Tomorrow: a private house show for the long-awaited release show for This Frontier Needs Heroes with some cool guests.  Bring it on!

Featured Friday Playlist recap Part 4 (Songs 36-45):

36. "Kickback (U and I)" by Rallo Green
First up, we have the new single from this singer, songwriter, producer, and musician from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. A fun summery song to start us off today.
37. "Black Hole Sun" by Leftover Salmon
Next up, a cover of the Soundgarden song from the jam band that formed in Boulder Colorado in 1989. It is from their new album Brand New Good Old Days
38. "Saving Aimee" by Harri Larkin
Next up, UK pop funk trio Harri Larkin returns to the playlist with their new single.
39. "Vain Shadows" by Clipe Circle
The latest single from this Scottish rock/metal band. They are expected to release their debut EP later this year.
40. "Afterglow Dub" by The Nextmen
London based The Nextmen reunite with Eva Lazarus for their new single. Great stuff.
41. "Shamans" by Tesla Shamans
Next up, we have the debut single from the forthcoming debut album (Electric Storm is due out May 17) by this hard rock band from Italy.
42. "GAME" by Gears
Next up, more hard hitting rock music this time from this band from Miami that was founded in 2014.
43. "Talking Heads" by Benjamin Jayne
Next up, we have the lead track from the 2nd album by this trans-oceanic brother-sister duo. This new album features elements of rock, folk/singer-songwriter with some electronic elements. Sister Amanda is based in Barcelona while brother Benjamin is based in southern Vermont.
44. "Fall Apart" by Robert Maniac
Next up, we have the debut single from this singer-songwriter based in London. An impressive debut.
45. "Lost & Found" by Manolo Redondo
And we close this segment with the title track from the new EP  by this Paris-based singers-songwriter originally from the French Alps which was inspired by a trip to Mexico and the Mojave Desert. A great way to close out this segment of music.

E2TG 2019 Recap - Part 8 - Butterfly Mix (Moonlighting Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Took on the last $2 Tuesday last night with E2TG fave Jason Erie, Rhyan Sinclair, host Derek Hoke, and Ward Hayden and the Outliers (whose Don't Judge a Book album we covered here this year).  In the late night hour, an uplifting full-band set from Jon Latham - featuring some Christmas tunes and special guests.  It was exactly the sort of night I needed.

Let us jump back into our recap of 2019.  Some cool music today.  Dig it!

Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Bearing Down Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

I really was going to stay in last night to try to finish recovering from Muddy Roots, but then I saw the line-up at $2 Tuesday....   Solo sets from two of Nashville's best songwriters - Ryan Sobb* and Nick Nace.  Plus Derek Hoke with Laur Joamets sitting in along with Derek's usual band of Steve Latanation and Mark Robertson.  And closing out the night was the all-star BiPolar Bear - led by Laur Joamets.

*Don't forget to make your plans to see Ryan Sobb with a  full band during Week 2 of the E2TG Fall Residency along with the always wonderful Don Gallardo and How Far West!!!!!

Anyway - let's get rolling.  It is Wednesday - when we usually do Wild Wednesday (and that is what I am calling this shuffle) but this week - we are going to stay in the "New Music" playlist since we were off last week.  Let's go!

Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Daddy Issues Mix

No philosophical rant today  - the shuffle is just to good, and I want to get right to it.  I added a bunch of new music to my playlist last night. I think only one of those new songs came up today, but expect much more in the days and weeks to come.

Moving on!

I had the opportunity to see Rickey Lee Jones last night at City Winery.  She sounded great, was funny, and the show was a blast. Her latest album Kicks was recorded in New Orleans and an eclectic mix of covers from the 70s and earlier.

On to the shuffle!

Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Second Chance Confessions Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

People often ask me (not really) why I do random shuffles for E2TG. I mean, it is my blog, I could painstakingly "curate" a list of 8-10 songs and then post them every day. Why leave it up to the shuffle function to pick which songs pop up?

Never mind that if I picked the list every day, I would spend hours second guessing and obsessing over which new album I was neglecting etc. The main reason for my using the random shuffle is that I believe in the "magic" of randomness.  Over the last eight years, I have seen so many weird coincidences and cool connections pop up in a shuffle.  There's even one today - watch for it.

It has been a busy week, and it's not over. Last night, I stopped off on the way home to catch Nick Loss-Eaton of Leland Sundries doing a solo set at Tennessee Brew Works. You may recall, I had a Leland Sundries song in the shuffle yesterday (I had completely forgotten about Nick playing - until the event popped up on my phone) - see what I mean about randomness?  Anyway, it was a good time. Hung out with Collins de la Cour (who does the music booking there) and Ted Drozdowski (who sat in on a song with Nick).

A quick trip home and then it was off to City Winery to catch a show for a review I am writing.  Look for that review very soon.

Now, let's get to the shuffle.

Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Like a Vision Mix

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed seven - January - Junly2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

E2TG January 2018
E2TG February 2018
E2TG March 2018
E2TG April 2018
E2TG May 2018

E2TG June 2018 NEW!
E2TG July 2018 NEW!

I'm on a roll, I just completed the July 2018 E2TG Playlist.  Now, I am up to August which I can work on and complete when the month is over.   Please check out these playlists if you get the chance. It is a great way to see the wide variety of music we feature on E2TG. I kind of changed my method in the midst of this project, so they latter playlists have more songs. My main goal was to post one song for each artist featured on a Trending Tuesday, Trending Thursday, or Featured Friday shuffle within the given month.  I may have included more than one and I may have missed someone.

Well, it is Wednesday, and that is the day we set aside to dig into all of the songs I currently have saved on my phone's memory card. As always, this can include recent "featured" music, E2TG favorites, classic tracks, and rare/oddities that somehow made their way on my phone.  I think we have examples of each of those, but I won't necessarily tell you which is which....

Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - All the Way to Peter's Gate Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I hesitate to report again about how awesome $2 Tuesdays are at The 5 Spot.  Derek Hoke and DJ Tim Hibbs throw a massive weekly party.  It cost you just $2 to get in and you can get Yazoo pints for just $2 all night.  I hesitate because it was packed out last night, and maybe enough people know about it... but hell.  For that $2, every single time I have gone, I have seen and heard some pretty amazing music.  Hell, $2 would be cheap just to hear Derek Hoke and his amazing band play a couple of songs.  Dead Horses from Wisconsin were awesome, Quinn from here in Nashville (and featuring E2TG Artist of the Year Jon Latham on guitar and BGVs) have an awesome sound.  Probably the only complaint I have (and I guess my age is showing) is that I left before the last band played and it was already midnight.  But, the young folks love it - ah, I remember... I remember...

Wednesday? What the hell is it?  Some call it hump day and celebrate having reached the mid-way through the work week, what does that say about us?  1. We are wishing our lives away and/or 2. We hate our week day existence so much and/or 3. We are optimists (I mean we would say we've toiled away for days and still have days of toil ahead).  Who knows? Wednesday are wild!  Wild used in the same way as "Jokers Wild".  Wednesday can be anything.  Or maybe wild used in the sense of wild!

Welcome to the first ever Wild Wednesday Shuffle.  Make sure your seatbelts are locked and loaded... or whatever...

Briefly,  I loaded this playlist with some of the more experimental songs I have on my phone.  Then, I counter-programmed with some older music, some outliers from past shuffles, some of the most unlikely songs in my phone, and then sprinkled in some stuff just 'cause.

Here goes nothing!

One of the outstanding things about Americana Fest is that it brings people from all over the world who are dedicated to making and appreciating the wildly diverse, enigma that is Americana Music.

Aussie songwriter/singer Imogen Clark came to town for Americana Fest last year, and she was invited back this year.  She is still in town and is putting on a release show for her EP Love and Lovely Lies at Twin Kegs II on Wednesday at 7:30.  Here is the link to the Facebook Event.

And here is a video so you know why you need to get there if at all possible.

Friday Morning Music Shuffle - Best as I Can Rember Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

So I few things.... I added a bunch of music to my playlist night including 3 mutli-artist compilation/samplers/mixtape deals. Several of those new songs showed up today in the shuffle... speaking of which, I had a little glitch in the middle of the shuffle and lost the history of the first several songs in today's shuffle, so I had to recreate from memory, I may have missed a song (but if I did it will come up again) and the order is almost certainly not correct.  Now, I do realize I could have just posted this with the disclaimer, but in the spirit of authenticity, I needed to let you know that.  I hope this will not impede your enjoyment of the shuffle.
