*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.
Moving onward. Time is a bit short - so, let's just jump right into our Trending Tuesday Shuffle!
"Cygnets" by Suggested Friends
First up, we have a first listen to "Cygnets" the new single from UK band Suggested Friends - from their forthcoming album Turtle Taxi- coming on HHBTM Records in the U.S. and Fika Records in the U.K. We will be previewing and featuring the whole album. This is my true first listen, and I like what I hear so far.
"Dirty Pictures" by Mouth Reader
Next up, we have another track from Holographic Phase by Murfreesboro rockers - Mouth Reader. I actually think Mouth Reader and Suggested Friends would make a good double bill if the latter band ever makes it over here. But what do I know?
"Like a River" by Silver Lake 66
We continue to make our way through Ragged Heart by Portland band Silver Lake 66. What I said in the quote above. This track really hit me in a good way, today.
"Loaded and Rollin'" by Flying Buffaloes
One week out from the CD Release show, we have the title track from the new album by Flying Buffaloes. Seeing them live, really bumped them up in my consciousness. If they come to a city near you, go see them. And definitely ask them detailed and technical questions about the airplane on the album cover. :-) Hey...
"Follow Me" by Katrina Parker
Next up, we have a first listen to some shimmering pop music from singer-songwriter Katrina Parker from her forth coming album Stars (due out September 6). The album features a wonderful take on the much covered June Carter/Merle Kilgore classic, "Ring of Fire". The L.A. based artist was a semi-finalist on Season 2 of The Voice. More to come.
"Without Water" by David G. Smith
Important words and a wonderful song from David G. Smith from album Who Cares (due out this Friday!). The album features a guest appearance by Mary Gauthier, and it was produced by the late Blue Miller (his last completed production project).
"Head to Heart" by Rusty Reid
More music with a message from Seattle based singer-songwriter Rusty Reid with the title track of his latest album.
"Lost Road" by Shane Alexander
Next up, we have a second listen to A Life Like Ours - the 7th Studio album by modern folk-rocker Shane Alexander (due out September 20 on his own Buddhaland Records). Really digging this song.
"The Girl From Deadhorse Hollow" by Tony Logue
Kentucky seems to really be on a roll these days. First Sturgill and now Tyler Childers have broken through into the mainstream. Last week, I finally got to check out Wayne Graham, and I really loved what they are doing. Add to that list, Tony Logue. We have been listening to his release Live on Red Barn Radio. This one of several great songs on the album. It is an excellent recording - I keep forgetting it is a live album.
"Invoked" by Luis Mojica
We close with a second listen to How a Stranger is Made from former Rasputina member Luis Mojica. The album won't be out until October, but the first single, "The Ranger" is out now. This is complex yet accessible music. Mojica is based in Woodstock, New York after spending time in the City. Check him out!
