Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - One Man Show Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

THIS IS NOT A WARNING!  ACT  NOW!  Secure your plans to kick off the E2TG Residency in style with Ben Arthur and Conrad y Skordalia this Wednesday at 6:00pm.  Book the babysitter, make your excuses for the boss, send your regrets for all of the conflicting events.

Seriously, this is going to be a fun five weeks, and I hope you can make some or all of them!

The E2TG 8th Anniversary is now only TWO DAYS AWAY!

September 25 - Week 1: Ben Arthur + Conrad y Skordalia

October 2 - Week 2: Ryan Sobb + Don Gallardo

October 9 - Week 3: The Truehearts + Jason Erie

October 16 - Week 4:  Josh Gray  + Meghan Hayes

October 23 - Week 5: Microwave Mountain + The Big Dumb

Time for the Music City Monday shuffle! Only eight songs in the shuffle today (due to a couple of longer songs).  Let's get to it!

Well, it's Americana Music Association Festival and Conference week in Nashville. I like to say that AMA week is like any other week in Nashville but on steroids. Or maybe, I need to be on steroids to make it through the week. But seriously, one fun thing is seeing friends from all over the world.

The festival has grown just in the last few years - adding tons of venues and official/unofficial events to the mix.

Americana represents part of what we play here on E2TG. The thing about Americana is that it is not really a genre. Practically speaking, Americana is whatever the Americana Music Association says it is. But, seriously, it is music of various genres which draws influence/inspiration from American roots based music (country, folk, blues, bluegrass etc.).

Anyway, there are several wonderful events that I want to catch and some great artists making rare Nashville appearances.

Meanwhile, it is Monday, and I am thrilled to bring back Music City Monday - after a few weeks off .It is my (usually) weekly celebration of the music of Music City - from those who lived or have lived here. We put it all together in a huge, ever growing playlist, hit shuffle, and let nature take its course.

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Since You've Been Gone Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well, the 2019 Edition of the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown IV is in the books. Over two nights, 13 acts featuring at least 54 artists performed. There was also a silent auctions which raised money for the Ben Eyestone Fund of Music Health Alliance, a COMMUnity Canvas - collaborative painting, and just a ton of fun.

Thank you to Emily Hansen of Magnolia Roads for letting me be a part of this.  I got to see old friends like The Truehearts, Chris Wilson, Don Gallardo, Mike Younger, Rich Mahan, and Lady Couch; people that I saw at previous Magnolia Roads events - like Jenny Lee West, Arkansas Dave, Bonnie Blue, and Jason Daniels; and some new folks like Bryan Haraway, FunkyJenn, and Jeff Mix.

Until next time!

Now, we jump right into another fantastic Music City Monday shuffle!  Let's do it!

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Nothing Wrong with Nashville Mix

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.
(From The Drift - A Novel by Joe Wolfe-Mazeres) Available at Amazon.com (Kindle edition also available)

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed seven - January - July2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

E2TG January 2018
E2TG February 2018
E2TG March 2018
E2TG April 2018
E2TG May 2018
E2TG June 2018
E2TG July 2018
E2TG August 2018 (coming soon!)

I appropriated a Todd Snider lyric for today's subtitle - even though I had a different Todd Snider song in the today's Music City Monday Shuffle.  Today's shuffle is a nice reminder of why Nashville is the best place to live for this music fan.   Time is short - so I'm going to get right to it!

Whew!  It feels like the calm before the Americana storm.  This is Americana Fest week in Nashville. I got to bed early last night - for likely the last time this week. I am working on keeping a positive attitude.  The things that don't matter: 1. missing something 2. somebody thinking I'm not going to the "cool" events 3.  Trying to outdo other people or myself with endurance.

Things that matter:  1.  Seeing as many out of town friends (including those I've never met in person)  2. Discovering "new to me" music.  3.  Supporting friends - when I'm able. 4. Having a good time 5. Not making myself sick (like last year).

Announcement:  I will helping to host an event coming up tomorrow night at The Radio Cafe featuring E2TG favorites Amelia White and Mark Huff - plus a couple of up and coming UK artists. Doors at 7 - music at 7:30 - $5.00 cover.

What better way to start the week in Nashville that is just like any other week in Nashville - except more intense - than with a "Music City Monday" shuffle. Covering music both new and old by a cross-section of the talented folks who have and/or do call Nashville home.

Although, I generally don't look forward to Mondays, I do look forward to Music City Monday here at E2TG when we features a shuffle from a playlist that covers a broad cross-section of the musical past and present of Nashville (as filtered through my sensibilities).

We have some cool stuff to feature today, so let's dive in....

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Wearing a Big Smile Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

My weekend show recap is highlighted by a couple of new releases.

Friday - after Tim Carroll's Rock 'n' Roll Happy Hour, I stuck around The 5 Spot for the CD Release show for Maxwell Putnam's new album Ode to a Tinhorn.  The line-up included a solo set from Alex of Little Bandit, Mark Fredson, a great solo set and a great full-band set from Putnam.  The night closed with a typically high-energy set from Justin and the Comics.

Sunday - I attended a party for the release of Stone Cupid's new album A Sad Clown.  An acoustic set with Julie Christensen, Sergio Webb, Chris Tench, and Parker Hawkins.  Love the new songs - which includes a cover of Darrin Bradbury's "Exile on Myrtle Beach".  The full band CD release show is set for April 9 at The Basement.

Another week, and it is time for a Music City Monday Shuffle.  From the ever-growing Music City Monday playlist on Spotify, we shuffle up this collection of music from past and current Nashville-based artists and bands.

If you want to peruse the playlist on your own, it is available HERE.

Now, let's shuffle:

E2TG Song Premiere: "Dance With The One (Who Brought You Here)" - Erica Blinn

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I am super excited to have the opportunity to premiere the second single from East Nashville's own Erica Blinn's forthcoming album, Better Than Gold.  "Dance with the One (Who Brought You Here)" was co-written by Blinn and Kristopher Michael Phillips (aka K Phillips - his first Nashville co-write).
