Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - One Man Show Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

THIS IS NOT A WARNING!  ACT  NOW!  Secure your plans to kick off the E2TG Residency in style with Ben Arthur and Conrad y Skordalia this Wednesday at 6:00pm.  Book the babysitter, make your excuses for the boss, send your regrets for all of the conflicting events.

Seriously, this is going to be a fun five weeks, and I hope you can make some or all of them!

The E2TG 8th Anniversary is now only TWO DAYS AWAY!

September 25 - Week 1: Ben Arthur + Conrad y Skordalia

October 2 - Week 2: Ryan Sobb + Don Gallardo

October 9 - Week 3: The Truehearts + Jason Erie

October 16 - Week 4:  Josh Gray  + Meghan Hayes

October 23 - Week 5: Microwave Mountain + The Big Dumb

Time for the Music City Monday shuffle! Only eight songs in the shuffle today (due to a couple of longer songs).  Let's get to it!

"Warsaw" by The Mumzees

We start things off with local rockers The Mumzees from their 2015 album Heavy Desert. A nice six + minute songs to kick things off.
"High As Willie" by Will Payne Harrison

We have been featuring Will Payne Harrison's new album Living With Ghosts, but this track goes back to his East Nashville Blues releases. High As Willie - that would be super high I would suspect.
"I'm Just a Man" by Derek Hoke

Derek Hoke always does a fantastic job booking his long-running $2 Tuesdays at The 5 Spot. Even if you don't know the bands/artists playing - the tend to be great. Even if, by some chance, none of the guests strike your fancy, it is worth it to get down there just to see one of Nashville's best songwriters lead a ever-changing but always amazing band through a fine set of music. Word is that Hoke is working hard on a new release - this is from his current most recent - Bring the Flood.

"Fare Thee Well" by Bill Eberle

Coincidentally, Bill Eberle was just on WXNA yesterday - on DJ Trev's show Our Golden Tones. Today, we have a track from his 2016 album Matter and Time. Another one of my favorite writers in town. Word is that Eberle has a new band/project called Trash Man.

"New Day" by Webb Wilder

I have been a fan of Webb Wilder since the mid 1980s. He has consistently been making great music ever since. This is a track from fairly recent compilation of rarities called Powerful Stuff. This is a song featuring the original Beatnecks line-up Donnie Roberts, Jimmy Lester, and Denny Blakely along with Webb himself. The song was co-written by Wilder and Terry Anderson (who wrote the Georgia Satellites songs, "Battleship Chains").

"A Little Rain" by Erica Blinn
Great seeing a surprise set from Erica Blinn at this year's Cafe Rooster Americana party.  Another great songwriter, a powerful performer, and a great human being.  Erica Blinn is one of Nashville's finest.

"Buddha Blues" by Will Kimbrough

For almost as long as I have been listening to Webb Wilder, I have been enjoying the music of Will Kimbrough - first through his band Will and the Bushmen who moved from south Alabama to Nashville in the mid to latter part of the 1980s.  In the 90s, our paths crossed through our kids and since that time he has been kicking ass on so many fronts that it is hard to keep up with him.  Producer, session player, touring band member, member of Daddy, solo career, duets, and I'm leaving a lot out I am know. This from his latest solo album I Like It Down Here.

"One Man Show" by Megan Palmer; Rayvon Pettis

Two of my favorite human beings combined forces on a digital only release earlier this year.  Coincidentally or not, I met them both mainly due to Darrin Bradbury (but that is true of a lot of people).  Nothing is Sweeter features three songs written by Pettis, 2 written by Palmer, a co-writer between the two of them, and a cover of R.E.M.'s "Try Not To Breathe". I always love hearing this song live sung by Megan Palmer in her unique and lovely voice. The way she sings "Ohio" (with Pettis providing harmonies) - her homestate - is a thing to behold in an of itself.
