Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Featured Friday Playlist recap (part 3) (songs 15-18):

15. "Praying for Rain" by Dominique Pruitt
Title track from the new EP by the singer-songwriter whose parents both worked with
Engelbert Humperdinck in the 1980s.
16. "Visa vid vindens angar" by Georg Nielsen
The latest release from the Swedish artist - a cover of a 1966 song by Swedish folk legend Mats Paulson. A lovely instrumental.
17. "Rhosod" by Lleuwen
Next up, we the latest single from this Welsh singer-songwriter - as the Welsh takeover of E2TG gains steam.
18. "Et oo suudellut kymmeneen vuoteen" by Gim Kordon
And we close this set with the latest single from this Finnish band from Helsinki whose name is a reference to the bassist of Sonic Youth.

E2TG 7/14/2021 - Half Birthday - Transparent Mix (Parades Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

It's my half-birthday!  Also, I am short on time- so my shuffle descripts might be minimal. Sorry.

Featured Friday Playlist recap (part 4) (songs 24-28):

24. "Nightfall" by Sophie Janna
First up today, we have a beautiful new single from this singer-songwriter based in Amsterdam.  It is the second single from the forthcoming World Wide EP - which is her first EP of original music.
25. "Ma Gnossienne" by Kety Fusco
Next up, we have a truly original work from an Italian-Swiss harpist and composer based in Switzerland. It is a reinvention of a 19th century work by the French composer Erik Satie. This new piece features the harp played in most unconventional ways. Wonderful.
26. "Sunshine" by Pablo Infernal
Next up, we have the second single of 2021 from this four-piece band from Zurich. The band members bring in Swiss, Albanian, Brazilian, and Italian heritage into this unique rock sound.
27. "Palm" by Lesser Care
Next up, we have a post-punk shoegaze band from El Paso Texas - with a double 7" inch single released ahead of their debut album which is being finalized as I write this.
28. "Sweet Company" by His His
And we close this segment of music with a track from the debut EP by Toronto based artist Aidan Belo - who records as His His. A great track to take us out of our recap today...

E2TG 6/9/2021 - Trying to Decide What to Say Here - Talk to God Mix (Just Like Hank Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Featured Friday Playlist recap Part 4 (songs 26-32):

26. "Missing You" by Shutter
First up today, we have a track from the most recent album by this New Jersey based alternative rock band.
27. "Hidden Drives" by Lanterna
A lovely instrumental track from this Illinois-based project - primarily featuring the music of Henry Frayne.
28. "Belleville Blues" by Swift Silver
Swift Silver are a duo who have worked together over a decade between Mississippi and North Carolina. Their self-titled debut album, just released, was recorded in Kentucky with brothers Kenny and Hayden Miles (of Wayne Graham).
29. "Rose + Crown" by AMMO
AMMO is a L.A. based multi-instrumentalist. She is also a rock and roll photographer who grew up in Los Angeles.
30. "Set You Free" by Soulful Femme
Next up, we have a track from the full-length debut from the Pittsburgh duo of  Stevee Wellons and Cheryl Rinovato. The pair are aided by a college of blues greats.
31. "Hey Hey" by Ro Halfhide
Next, we have the second single from the forthcoming Paint the Town (Due out July 9) by this singer-songwriter and producer based in Amsterdam.  I dig this song.
32. "Farm on Mars" by Art Schop
Art Schop is the project of rock musician Martin G. Walker - who was born is the U.K. and currently based in Brooklyn. This wonderful track deals with the harsh realities of colonizing Mars from the perspective of one lonely farmer. A wonderful expansive track to take us out of this penultimate segment of this week's playlist.

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I am running short on time and I had some technical difficulties - but here goes nothing...

Well, I had written the final recap of this week's Featured Friday Playlist, but then then it disappeared, and I am short on time.. so here are the songs and what I can remember: Songs 28-32

"Divisions" by Charlie Nieland
Well-known NYC producer and artist with his latest.
"New Wave" by Aurang
New single - I don't know much about the artist, but I dig the music.
"Duality" by RUMBLE (feat. Rhyme Time)
Recent release from the folks at Chinese Man Records - the members of RUMBLE are all veterans of the label.
"Lust" by All Hallowed (feat. Vinnie Caruana)
The second single we have featured from this dance/punk band from Ohio.
"Silent Trees" by Pentral
And we close with a 7+ minute debut from this prog rock band from Brazil. Their album was mixed by the legendary producer Tim Palmer (Tin Machine, U2, The Mission, Tears for Fears and more).

E2TG 3/4/2020 - East Nashville Strong/Nashville Strong/Tennessee Strong - Glass Window Mix (Black Flag Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

The tornado that ripped through North and East Nashville and across Middle Tennessee in the early hours of Tuesday morning did considerable damage and left over 20 people dead across the state.
The East Nashville music community with which I have aligned myself (and been accepted into) over the last five or so years was hit hard. In addition to the well-publicized major damage at the Basement East (I am so thankful all of the employees made it through okay), musicians and members of the extended community suffered damage to their homes, cars, and places of employment - all of which puts their often perilous financial situations into more dire straights (I will accept responsibility for that "Sultans of Swing" earworm.)
Already, the resilience and spirit of community have been heartening (but not unexpected).  If I could only say one thing about this community, it would be about how they come together in times of loss and through difficult times. I trust that we all will come through this stronger than ever with a heightened sense of community.
All that, however, is not meant to minimize the difficult days, weeks, and months ahead. I encourage anyone reading this who has been affected in any way, to reach out for help.  In situations like this, people can be affected in many different ways and it can affect all parts of the community - perhaps none more than our most vulnerable citizens. We (which I use in the community sense) are fortunate enough to have some great community partners who do great work every day, and who have already stepped up.
To anyone who feels called to help out, seek out legitimate organizations to support. I have compiled a brief list of ways to help. The list is growing constantly, but I hope this provides a good place to start.
E2TG has always and still believes in the healing power of music. So, we will proceed with our regularly scheduled programming.
 How to help:

The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee

Gideon's Army (Coordinating Donations and Support on the North side)

Go Fund Me for Service Industry Workers in East Nashville

Volunteer with Hands on Nashville

Community Resource Center for Donations of Items

Here is a Nashville Scene Article with many resources for helping or getting help

Wednesday Morning Shuffle:

Sorry this list isn't more diverse... (just kidding)... enjoy, I sure did.

"Black Flag Blues" by Adam Carroll (from Live at Flipnotics)

One of my favorite Adam Carroll songs - ask Scott Nolan about the Pecan Logs from Stuckey's.

"Empty Your Head" by Smokey the Firebear (Teshio Democracy EP)

Before he was in Them Airs - Cade Williams put out experimental music under the moniker Smokey the Firebear. This is from one of his many releases no longer on-line. The Video Playlist has a different track substituted.
"Glass Window View" by Triggers and Slips (from The Stranger)

Looking forward to seeing Triggers and Slips in April at the Magnolia Roads American Roots Hoedown V (Just announced: the show will now be a benefit for Tornado relief - details to come). The Stranger was among my favorite albums of 2019.

"Raglan Road" by Ricko Donovan (from Full On)

On-time Nashville resident  - who I met on our shared birthday four years ago. He is singer-songwriter and hammer dulcimer player.

"I-i Thina Lapha Esishupekayo" by George Sibanda (from Guitar Music of Africa/Recordings 1950-1955)

Some seminal 1950s African guitar music. Sibanda was from Rhodesia - which is now called Zimbabwe.

"Weekend Brawl" by Jerry Castle (from Not So Soft Landing...)

Nashville based singer-songwriter with a track from his 2016 album.

"Walking Shoes" by Duke Dickson (from Gonna Make it Alone)

"Miss Globule" by Pas Musique (from The Phoenix)

"Pulling Me Down" by Brandi and the Alexanders (from How Do You Like It?)

"I Can See For Years" by Good Field (from Surface Tension)

"Dusk" by Moonshine Booze (from Desert Road)

Brand New List Today!

Friday Shuffle:

Time to close out the week.  It was a snowy morning commute. As usual, a delightfully eclectic mix of music.

"One Wish" by Habit of Mine (from Habit of Mind)

A first listen to this Los Angeles based alternative rock band. This came to us via a direct inquiry last month.  Great sounding tune.
"Peggy Gordon" by Ricko Donovan (from Full On)

One-time Nashville resident, hammer dulcimer player, songwriter, and birthday brother Ricko Donovan is up next. Hope he makes it back to Nashville soon.

"Unfortunately" by Warming (from Warming)

"Horizon part.2" by Lions'Den (from Songbird)

"Sunken Aspects" by Claudio Conti (from Garnet Dusk)

"Rambling" by Moonshine Booze (from Desert Road)

"Trouble and Time" by Chris Carroll (from Trouble and Time)

I think there are over 5,000 songs saved in my phone memory, and a random shuffle brought up two songs this week from this 2014 album by the Texas singer-songwriter.  We have been featuring her latest album Good Farmer (a collaboration with her husband Adam) recently.

"Remember the Love" by Heather Powell (from A Haze of Grays and Blues)

Speaking of defying the odds.  Apparently, this song was save to my phone twice and came up on two consecutive days.  The album was released in 2015, and yes, this track features Kevin Jenkins (for some reason he was credited on the track that came up yesterday but not on the track that came up today - I am sure they are the same track).

"Miles of Broadway" by Maynard and the Musties (from Cheap Cigar)

Nashville by way of Brooklyn band - with a track from an album released while they were living in New York.

"Salvation Jane" by INXS (The Best of INXS)

"Let the Four Winds Blow" by Warren Storm (from Taking the World, By Storm)

A cover of a 1961 Dave Bartholomew and Fats Domino by legendary swamp pop pioneers Warren storm - on a album produced by Yvette Landry.

E2TG 1/10/2020 - Band of the Year - Featured Friday - Mr. Pepper Mix (Happy Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

WELCOME TO E2TG V3.0

I guess call this the soft launch - trial run - pilot program for E2TG v3.0.  Today, we are introducing two new features.  First is the Featured Friday Playlist from Spotify.  It is a playlist of recent and current music that has our attention. The list will "refresh" every Friday (give or take), so place Follow the playlist or check in here. The embed will be posted every day in case you miss it.

Next, we have our listing of Recent, Current and Upcoming Releases (singles, EPs, and LPs).  This will be our primary means of spotlighting new releases. Expect some commentary to be added periodically.  Please note: this is a work-in-progress.  I went through e-mail submissions to compile this list then added some others that I learned about from other sources.  This listing will be posted daily and updated regularly.  So, if you don't see your release listed, please let me know and I will add. it.

The Shuffle has always and will always be a centerpiece of the E2TG experience. I am no longer using it has the primary means of featuring new releases. Tuesday-Friday will be akin to the old "Wild Wednesday" shuffle. New music received will be added to my phone and I will shuffle from all of the saved music.  Monday will continue to be shuffled from the Music City Monday Spotify Playlist.

Whew!  Don't try to remember. Just enjoy.

INTRODUCING THE 2019 E2TG BAND OF THE YEAR!

As we prepare to rush headlong into the new frontier of 2020 and E2TG V3.0, we have one last piece of unfinished business from 2019.  Yesterday, we name Darrin Bradbury as our Artist of the Year. For a time, I had someone else in mind for that award, however, fortunately, that individual gave his band a name, and so made them eligible (according to my non-existent rules) for the Band of the Year honors. It is appropriate.

From the first time, I saw Ryan Sobb, I was blown away by his songwriting.  Smart, funny, deep, and unlike anything I had heard.  Eventually, he started playing with a band and putting some amazing songs into a high energy, power popish package. Over the course of 2019, the band has gotten better and better.  They are a tight unit, but still manage to feel slightly out of control and loose (in the best way possible).  They are a true power trio in the long and storied history of that combination.  Chase Ballenger and Preston Cochran make a wonderful rhythm section that give further grounding to Sobb's songs that didn't seem to need grounding.

When singer-songwriters form a band, sometimes, the intimacy of the songs can get lost, but that never seems to happen with this band. Credit goes to Ryan Sobb whose delivery keeps the song at the forefront, and to Ballenger and Cochran who find their groove within the context of the song.

Ryan Sobb released a single, and a split "live" album with one-time E2TG Artist of the Year Rayvon Pettis.  Word is that he has an EP coming in 2020.

And so, it is with great pleasure and high hopes, that I officially name, Ryan Sobb and The Dead Mall as E2TG's 2019 Band of the Year!
