Tomorrow is Independence Day - the 4th of July. COVID-19 means that celebrations will be muted compared to most years, but maybe that is a good thing. Long before, the current President, I have felt, that this nation has needed to do some self-reflection. It seems like the recent protests and upheavals have been part of that process, and yes, it has been ugly and messy, but self-reflection often is...
Anyway, those are my thoughts on this 3rd of July.
Today, I am pleased to help premiere a new video for an older song from an E2TG favorite - Andrew Adkins. "Throw Down Your Guns" was on Adkins' 2018 album To Become Immortal and Then Die.
Also today, Andrew Adkins is releasing releasing a new 5 song EP called One Evening In Brooklyn: Live!. It is available on all the usual streaming platforms.
Adkins also let me know that his long anticipated new album The Echoist is due out in November, and that he will be releasing some singles/videos in the coming months leading up to the album release.
Now to the Video Premiere which is perfectly timed for release heading into this weekend.

Today, I am thrilled to have the opportunity to premiere the brand new video from one of the hottest duos in Nashville right now. Anana Kaye and Irakli Gabriel are Anana Kaye (the band). The pair are originally from Georgia (the country not the state just to the south of Tennessee).
Over the last several months, the two have taken Nashville's music community by storm. They have that rare combination of talent and personality.
The video is a work of art and it stars the amazingly talented Rosemary Fossee. Now, you can check it out here and only here at E2TG!

Ghost Town Remedy describe themselves as a Cathartic Indie/Emo/Dad Rock outfit. "Super Glue" has a massive sound. The video is a whole lot of fun - a Dungeons and Dragons themed adventure.

From his bio: Ben de la Cour has lived a different kind of life. After growing up in Brooklyn, he set out to see the world as an amateur boxer, bartender, and agricultural worker. He lived in Havana, Paris, London, Los Angeles, and New Orleans before finally settling in Nashville. It was at Nashville’s Greenland Sound that de la Cour recorded the eleven songs of perfectly crafted Americanoir that make up his second album “Midnight in Havana”.

E2TG Video Premiere: "These Days" by Charlie Hager

Ear to the Ground has been featuring songs from American Saga, the new album by Charlie Hager for a few weeks. I previously described his music as pure honest songwriting. It is a sad commentary on our times that I almost felt the need to explain that I meant that as a compliment. In some ways, that is what this song and the brand new video, which we are premiering today, is all about.

Why not go for the trifecta? Back in October, I had the great honor of premiering the song "40 Miles" - I had this to say:

"40 Miles" is pure Mid West, Blue Collar American Music. It drips with the blood sweat and tears of its characters and of its creator. This is not manufactured Country/Rock music - it is as real as it gets and it has been built brick by brick, and to that point, it is a brick in and of itself, and I for one cannot wait to see what Zachariah Red will build next.

Hey! It is Tuesday night, I have been catching up on laundry and trying to catch up on e-mail. My inbox has been flooded with a ton of great music - some of which you will be hearing here on Ear to the Ground, so of which will be coming your way soon.
In the midst of the excitement of scrolling through pages of unopened e-mail (sorry), I got a call from the 2015 E2TG Artist of the Year, Jon Latham. That is how he is tagged in my phone by the way... "2015 E2TG Artist of the Year, Jon Latham". He filled me in on a project he has in the works.
Returning to Fort Dakota Studio, Jon has recorded five solo acoustic songs all of which were also recorded on video. The recordings were a reunion of sorts with Fort Dakota's mastermind, Josh Morris who produced Jon's album, Real Bad News.
Look for an EP of those sessions coming your way soon, in the meantime, I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to present the very first video from that session.
When Jon and I talk, we often talk about music. As I have said before, Jon is extremely knowledgeable about a pretty wide variety of music genres - including some bands that I would not expect someone his age to know (thank you Michael Latham).
Inevitably, we talk about songwriters. Names like John Prine, Steve Earle, and Guy Clark come up quite often. We have discussed the importance of Guy Clark to much of the best music being played in songwriter rounds around this fair city.
"LA Freeway" has long been one of my favorite Guy Clark songs, and I really like Jon's cover of that song here - recorded at Fort Dakota.
A little trivia: Steve Earle sang background vocals on Guy Clark's recording of this song from his debut album, Old No. 1. Steve Earle, as you may recall, is prominently referenced in the opening seconds of Real Bad News.
Without any further ado: Here is "LA Freeway" by Jon Latham

A couple of weeks ago, the shuffle gods were in our favor, and "Gone South (Electric Rock)" by Mark Robinson came up on my shuffle the same day that his new two-sided single was released. We had originally added the official video to our playlist but due to a technical problem (You Tube ate the video, I think), we had to replace the video with the song/picture video. However, thankfully, we have been given another shot....
