E2TG 4/2/2021 - Featured Friday - Peggy Mix (Sharp Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Time for another Featured Friday Playlist.  This is a fairly large list - thanks to taking a week off... But, we have a ton of great music spread throughout the whole playlist - so please check out the full list on Spotify (below) and give us a follow if you are so inclined.

It is also Bandcamp Friday - so be sure to support your favorite independent artists by buying music and merch from them - Bandcamp is waiving all revenue sharing - so your money goes directly to the artists you love.

We have a bunch of music to get to and time is short - so let's dive right in...

E2TG 10/30/2020 - All Hallow's Eve Eve - The Wrong Side Mix (Creep(y) Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

A convergence of happenings... still in a pandemic (and into a new wave), the U.S. elections are coming Tuesday, tomorrow is Halloween (and a full moon!), we fall back on the clocks, and I don't know, I'm sure there is more.

Oh yeah, it is Friday, and we have another Featured Friday Playlist here at E2TG.  I continue to be blown away by the amount of music being released. We have to end this pandemic and get my musician friends back on the road touring so this poor music blogger can rest... just kidding, but I do want my friends to get back to it.

E2TG 10/16/2020 - Featured Friday - Murder Industry Mix (Tin Foil Hat Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I am optimistic. Now, I have no idea how the election is going to turn out, and I have no idea when the pandemic will really be over or what life will love like when it is. I don't know how we will heal the division and hatred and fear that divides our nation, or how (or even if) we will deal with the bigotry which has been emboldened in recent years under a so-called leader to has done the emboldening.  Nevertheless, I am optimistic.

I see a lot of good people who are united not by a common ideology or a singular political philosophy, but who are united against fascism and hatred and bigotry of all kinds. I see brilliant, compassionate, and creative people who are finding new ways of doing things and who are taking care of one another.

No doubt, the road ahead is difficult and uncertain, but I am optimistic- not that the path ahead is perfect or easy, but that we will continue marching down that road toward a brighter future.

This week's Featured Friday Playlist is a bit longer than previous weeks, so I decided to start with the first 10 songs for today's post. You can find the recap - below the jump

E2TG 8/28/2020 - Featured Friday - Wolf Moon Mix (Shapeshifting Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well, it is Friday, and you know what that means... or maybe you don't... but that means it is time for a brand new E2TG Featured Friday Playlist for you listening and music discovery enjoyment. I will repeat my usual disclaimer to please support the artists in what ever way you are able. If you have the means buy music and/or merch - if you aren't in the position to do that share far and wide.

I reluctantly started using Spotify for this playlist because it is the easiest way for me to do it. Just know that Spotify does not support artist - independent artists in particular. So listen, follow, download - whatever, but to really support the artists do more.   *End of rant*

This week's just is a little shorter than last week, but it is still packed with great music from a wonderful combination of old friends and new discoveries.   We featured the first nine songs down below the jump.  We will feature the rest of the list starting Monday in this space..

Until next time, take care of one another, take care and be gentle with your self, wear and mask and practice social distancing and all the recommended precautions. Until we can all safely gather together again and hug.

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook

I'm gonna make this relatively quick. I am actually going out for lunch *gasp*

Have a Happy Thanksgiving (unless you are from Canada - in which case I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving last month or from somewhere that doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving - in which case have a happy Thursday).

Today, we get "Wild" and shuffle up from the playlist of all the songs on my phone....

Extra Special Earie Shuffle - The Purge: Anchovy Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well it is 2017, but here at E2TG we still have some unfinished business to complete for 2016.  So, I'm taking advantage of a couple of days off to award my final group of Earie Awards.  Tomorrow, I may or may not have a few more, but I will definitely be awarding Band/Artist of the Year.  Remember, unlike last year, the Artist/Band of the Year may or may not have already received an Earie this year, so you will have to stay tuned.  Betting lines are open... void where prohibited.

I do want to take a second to once again thank every one who reads, reposts, shares, comments, "likes", and otherwise supports me in making E2TG happen.  I am encouraged by the fact that December, November, and October 2016 were the 1. 2. and 3. best months for page views in the entire 5 1/2 year history of this blog.  In fact, December 2016 blew every previous month out of the water. I am humbled and filled with gratitude, and I am looking for a new year of opportunities and great music.

First, a couple of non-shuffle "Earies" to give out:

1.  The "After I Died" award goes to Bashful Hips. This often enigmatic and unique artists released  the awesome "After I Died, I've Never Felt So Alive", I was fortunate to be able to make it to the CD release show earlier this year.  Bashful Hips also had the opportunity to play shows and tour with some of his favorite artist.  For my part, I am grateful to have his cool and original sounds in my shuffle.

2.  The "Treeline is Not a Limit" award goes to Tim McNary.  McNary is another of those artists (like Ben de le Cour and Josh Morris) who I wrote about back in the early days of the blog and then reconnected with in a very coincidental way.  His album, Above the Trees was one of my favorites of the year, and I always love seeing McNary live. He has a wonderful, rich voice that brings his song to life.

Now to the shuffle - since I didn't commute anywhere this morning, I listened to tunes while I tried to do some organizing around here....

Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Fly Fly Away Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well, it is mid-week.  After helping out with the WXNA Pledge Drive (jump on that if you haven't), I headed out to $2 Tuesday.  Derek Hoke was out of town, so DJ Tim Hibbs was hosting.  Highlights: Jennifer Nicely, Patrick Kinsley and a Fistful of Dollars, The Stoop Kids, plus special surprise guests - Caitlin Rose and Daniel Romano.

Tonight, Allen Thompson Band are playing the early show at The 5 Spot, and I have a late night shift at WXNA.

Tomorrow Night: Jon Latham and Harrison Whitford open for Bobby Bare, Jr.

On Wednesday, we go wild... I think this shuffle meets that criteria.

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Bad Decisions Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I attended the J.R. Wyatt CD Release show last night.  J.R. sounded amazing. I have been a fan of his since I saw him perform a solo set at Logue's Black Raven (RIP).  He writes amazing songs, has a great voice, and last night he was backed by an awesome band (who all played on his new album, Staying Gold which is out now).  Expect to hear more about this album very soon....

E2TG Artist of the Year  Jon Latham went on right before J.R. playing his first full-band show one year after completing the mastering on his album Real Bad News.  He has had an incredible year. Having seen him perform many times and having been impressed many time, I feel like last night was Jon's star turn (or something like that).  Yes, his band was extraordinary - filled with great musicians and songwriters and friends (Aaron Lee Tasjan, Eli Rhodes, Sean Quinn, and Raun Shultz). and they were every bit as good as one could have expected. Still, it was Jon Latham's stage and he owned it completely.  It is truly heartening and inspirational to see the growth of his confidence and stage presence in the almost two years since I was first introduced to his music. Yeah, I'm one of those, "I knew him before..." people, and I say that with pride and joy!

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle - The Show Must Go On and On and On and On Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Rain is falling steadily over Nashville.  It's a cool, dreary kind of day.  I'm already dreading the long dark winter season.

We have some cool tunes for you this morning to help cope with the dreariness...

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle - Refuse to Be Your Jodi Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I find myself rushed again... so, let's get to this:

1.  Jonquil Child by Tiffany Huggins Grant which we have been featuring songs off of for a few weeks has been released.  Check it out HERE. I recommend it highly.

2. There is a great FREE SHOW in downtown Nashville today on 5th between Demonbreun and Korean Veterans.  It is the CD Release show for the companion album to the Dylan, Cash, and the Nashville Cats exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.  Lots of cool folks including some of the players from the original classic recordings.  Did I mention it is free?  Details: HERE. Gates at 5:00, Music starts at 6:00

3.  Later on tonight, Two Cow Garage are playing at the Hi Watt with Heathen Sons and Benchmarks.  Benchmarks is the new moniker for Todd Farrell and the Dirty Birds.  Should be a great show.

Shuffle: (It's a good one)....
