Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Sea Waiting Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

That was the week that was....

It's Friday!  A gloomy day in Nashville.  I've been reminded again of the incredible selection of live music going on just about every single night in many different size venues featuring all kinds of talented performers.

Last night, I went out to Dee's to see the amazingly talented Lisa Oliver Gray joined by Will Kimbrough on guitar.  These two have been important parts of the Nashville music community for many years.  The first time I saw Will Kimbrough live was over 30 years ago with his band Will and the Bushmen.

It's time for our last shuffle of the week.  And our first of February!  This is Featured Friday - which MAY include the newest of the new but also some other less recent submissions and some miscellaneous acquisitions to my personal collection of music.

Let's go!

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

I am continuing to work on my Spotify playlists for E2TG.  So far, I have completed seven - January - Junly2018.  These are meant to be a cross-section of music I featured during those months - not necessarily music released in those months.   If you are interested, you can check out the playlists (links below)  and follow my personal profile to find out when new playlists are created.

Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Heart Grow Fonder Mix

I had a good time last night representing WXNA at the BriteHeart Birthday Bash last night.

BriteHeart’s mission is to engage, connect and empower citizens for positive change through voting and civic participation. BriteHeart connects individuals with organizations and organizations with resources.
#GetCivic
They had some great musical guests including Bill Eberle - whose new album is in our rotation.
The event was held in the East Nashville space of Helping Our Music Evolve - H.O.M.E..
This is a great new organization:
"HOME is a nonprofit community of music creators and music lovers. We’re here to help you with all things music-related. Whether you are a musician, producer, or music-biz professional, we have the space, resources, and networking opportunities you need to build your team and grow your career."
I also want to give a shout out to another organization that was represented at the event last night. Girls Write Nashville empowers youth in Nashville through mentorship, songwriting, production, and artistic community.  The organization was founded by Georgia English and Jen Starsinic.  I got to listen to some of the music - the music was impressive - made more so by reading that the youth making the music are in sixth and seventh grade.

Well - this difficult week is finally winding down... we have time for one final shuffle of the week.  This one features some of the fine, fine music that has come our way in recent weeks and months.

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Please RSVP Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Marching on into the week. The news of the world continues to depress and terrify me. I continue to take comfort in good music and knowing there are good people in this world.

Speaking of good music, I am inching closer to beginning to reveal the bands/artists who will be playing the E2TG 7th Anniversary Residency (Thursdays in June at The 5 Spot). I will tell you that we will have a current E2TG Artist of the Year and a past E2TG Band of the Year. Plus lots of surprises. Stay tuned!  Once the lineup is revealed, I will not shut up about it.

It is Tuesday, and that is the day, we dig into our "New Music" playlist and shuffle it up to see what comes to the surface that we will say is "Trending" on E2TG.

Let's shuffle:

Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Tupelo Carolina Mix

Yesterday, I posted a show alert for Erica Blinn, Andrew Leahey, and Liz Brasher at The 5 Spot.  Well, I went to that show last night, and it was fantastic. Saw so many good friends.

Liz Brasher is a force of nature. This was my first time seeing her, and she was amazing.
Erica Blinn is a powerhouse performer. Her set included a duet with Andrew Leahey on "Stop Dragging My Heart Around".
Andrew Leahey was backed by Jon Latham and the rest of his regular band (which also included Leahey).  This set included a cover of the Echo and the Bunnymen song "Lips Like Sugar" which took me back to my college days.

Tonight, I am checking out Music City Roots on the Road as they hit 3rd and Lindsley with a lineup that includes DADDY (Will Kimbrough and Tommy Womack), Kevin Gordon, Lillie Mae, and Katie Pruitt. Should be a fantastic show.

Back to our New Music playlist for Trending Tuesday. By the way, according to Facebook's on this date, it seems like two years ago was my first ever "Trending Tuesday" post.  Anyway, only four songs in the shuffle today (one was over 13 minutes longs). So, let's shuffle.

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Repeat Me Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Alright. Well, I'm back with a regular shuffle... songs listened to and written about on the same day.

By the way, I added a bunch of music to my New Music playlist.  Last week, it was down to just below 400 songs, now it is over 500 again. We have a pretty eclectic shuffle today - including a few "first listens"

Let's go ahead and shuffle!

Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Super Awkward Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Had a good night out seeing live music last night.  Starting at The Local to see a Ben de la Cour plus a wonderful set from the legendary Jon Dee Graham. I picked up a copy of Graham's CD Knoxville Skyline which features E2TG favorites Tim and Susan Bauer Lee.

After that, I headed to $2 Tuesday at The 5 Spot. I usual, I stayed up too late and had a very good time. Also as usual, I saw some great bands.  First up was Nashville band Volk - that I saw for the first time and really enjoyed.  Next was E2TG favorite Andrew Adkins with a superb band. As always it was a treat.  Next was Derek Hoke playing as a trio with Mark Robertson of the Legendary Shakeshakers and great Nashville drummer Steve Latanation (formerly of the band Agent Orange). One of my favorite local songwriters, Chris Moyse, closed the night with a band that featured Sean Quinn and Erin Nelson of Nelson, Zimmerman, and Quinn.

So, I guess it's Happy Valentine's Day or Singles Awareness Day, if you prefer, or Happy Wednesday, if you prefer that.  It is Wednesday, and every Wednesday, things get a little wilder than usual here at E2TG. We call it Wild Wednesday, and it is the day we shuffle up all the songs currently saved to my phone and see what comes up.

Only six songs in today's shuffle... the last track is over 9 minutes long. Let's shuffle!
