It's a day early, but tomorrow night, David Olney kicks off his 4 of 5 Wednesday night residency for August at The 5 Spot. (By the way the 5th week features Scott Miller). Olney's shows are always incredibly good, and his residency shows tend to be filled with epic moments of poetry, song and surprises. Late night tomorrow, is another edition of Joanna Barbera's Songs Not Silence showcases benefiting Thistle Farms. This time around Barbera herself will perform! Great time, great cause. Also at The 5 Spot.
Tonight: Tommy Womack (who we featured yesterday) will be playing The Family Wash as part of the weekly Short Sets series. It is also Pint and Pie night. So yeah!

More senselessness. More tragedy. More violence. More loss. Followed by more rhetoric. More words. More opportunities to answer darkness with light. More opportunities to unify.
These are my words which seem inadequate: It needs to be about love. Not worrying about who someone loves, but just about love. There are many seemingly controversial issues wrapped up in everyone of these mass shootings, and these latest one more so than others.
My love to the LBGTQ community. My love to the millions of peaceful Muslim-Americans. Love to those filled with such hate. Love to those who live in fear. Love to those who are in pain. Gun control, radicalized religions, terror, hate, intolerance...
My heart is hurting, but I cannot allow myself to give in to despair. There is beauty all around us. We move forward in love. And as I have had to say far too many times since I began writing E2TG - MUSIC HEALS. Love to all of you. Let's take care of one another today.

Moving on... A big thanks to everyone who tuned in Saturday for the official debut of Double Shot with Joe and Sue. If you missed it (or even if you caught it), we will be on every Saturday from 11-1pm Central Time on WXNA-LP Nashville (101.5 FM, wxnafm.org, or via the TuneIn app). Our next show's theme will be "We've Got You Covered" - where we will be spinning cover tunes (or in some cases the original tune that was later covered).
Onward to Music City Monday!

It's Monday... blech... I have a rough week at work so if posts get spotty that is why, but I will do my best. Just over one week until the 5th Anniversary Party. I hope you will come if you can.
My music play sorts by first name (it does recognize "The" by the way). Anyway, all of the songs today were from the letters A-D purely by chance. I did have to double check at one point to make sure the shuffle mode was really set...

Back at it on a Monday! Had a good time Friday at The Country (after checking in with Tim Carroll and company at The 5 Spot) - Richie Owens and the Farm Bureau + Saint Luke's Drifters. Richie and company have a new album out now. Saint Luke's Drifters are finishing up their new album. If you get the chance to see either one or both of these bands, I highly recommend it.
Tonight: My recommendation is Matt Phillips and the Philharmonic from 7-9p.m. at Charlie Bob's on the eastside. Here is the Facebook event, if you Facebook.
This is definitely prime season for new music - look for some awesome new albums coming up in the next few months - I think I got at least 5 albums to listen to and possibly review over the last four or five days.

Featured Friday Morning Music Shuffle - Too Far Gone Mix

Friday is upon us...
It has been a pretty crazy, stressful kind of week, so I cannot say that I unhappy that it is almost over...
Last night was fun, though - although traffic was horrible. I set off for Douglas Corner with a GPS estimated arrival time of 6:04p.m. After I got stopped by a train that came to a complete stop. After an unsuccessful attempt to find some way around (the train was blocking several main roads), I ended up back where I started, but the train had finally cleared. I finally arrived around 6:25p.m. or so and fortunately, the music had just started. It was a songwriter's round that included Mike Cullison and a singer-songwriter named Arielle - who impressed me highly.
I left there and headed to The 5 Spot to catch the last 45 minutes or so of Paul Burch's residency show. His outstanding band included Fats Kaplin and two bass players.
Finally, I ended my jaunt at The Family Wash for an incredible performance by Annie McCue. McCue is from Australia but surely has an honorary East Nashville membership card.
Got to hang with some awesome folks at each of those shows.
As I was writing this, I got the official word, that yours truly and Sue Havlish will be the hosts of an hour long radio show on the brand new low power community radio station WXNA. The show (Double Shot with Joe and Sue) will be every Friday from 2:00 to 3:00p.m. As soon as the launch date is announced, I will let you know.
Friday means, that I hit shuffle from the "Featured Friday" playlist- so without much more ado - let's get to it!

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle - Life's Revolving Door Mix

Thinking today about those pivot moments in life, when trajectories get changed...
I have been reading a book called Outlaw about Waylon, Willie, and Kris that is a lot about Nashville in the 60s and early 70s... Much about the "establishment" and the creative forces that bucked the system to carve their own path - or to follow a path blazed by Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan. It has me thinking a lot about Nashville in 2016....
Tonight is promising to be another of those nights... first off, it is the final night of Jason Ringenberg's residency at The 5 Spot with tonight's guests Kristi Rose and Fats Kaplin. After that, The Family Wash is hosting a tribute to the late great J.J. Cale that has a cast of performers that is pretty amazing.

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - Frozen Out Mix

As Nashville digs out from Snowpocalypse '16 (with temperatures expected to rise to above 50 degrees today), it seems a good time to remind you that tonight is the FINAL NIGHT of the Darrin Bradbury Residency at The Basement East. Roads should be much improved by the time tonight rolls around. If you have made it out to the one or more of the first three weeks, I do not need to tell you.... if you haven't, this is the last chance to experience the magic! Guests tonight are Erin Rae, Rorey Carroll, and Steve Poltz! Doors at 6:00p.m. Music starts at 6:30p.m. Go to the Pub if you need Grub before or after. Do it!
