Hitting my mid-week stride... this Friday, the new Featured Friday Playlist will cover two weeks of new releases plus other recent submissions we may just be getting to... We are currently wrapping up the current playlist which we originally posted on June 11.  

Featured Friday Playlist recap (Part 7) (songs 25-27):

25. "Lullaby" by Rafa 

First up, we have a new single from this Australian singer-songwriter - born of Dutch and Colombian parents - inspired by the birth of his first child. Rafa is joined by Syd Taylor of Stereo Jane. 

26. "Ain't so Kind" by Supermutt

Next up, we have the lead track from the new album by this rock and roll band from New Jersey. Great stuff. 

27. "Creepy Crawlie" by Muscle Vest

And we close this short segment with the lead track from the new album by this noise rock band from London.  A cool way to close us out.

Time to reveal our guests for Week 2 of the E2TG 7th Anniversary Residency at The 5 Spot. This one will be held Thursday June 14, 2018. That's Flag Day, so if you bring a gently used flag, you can get in for just $5.00.  Otherwise, the admission is $5.00.

Ted Drozdowski has been a favorite of mine, since the first time I saw him leave the stage, use a wine glass as a slide, and generally take Hill Country blues into the stratosphere.  I once saw him walk off the stage at the old Family Wash, do the aforementioned wine glass trick, walk out the front door, come back in the side door and get back on stage will playing the whole time. He has a new configuration called Ted Drozdowski's Psychedelic Circus, and I am thrilled to have them for my show!

The End Men. If you have been following E2TG for awhile, you will recognize the name The End Men. Led by Matthew Hendershot and Livia Ranalli, Brooklyn, New York band The End Men have their own unique and rocking take on blues music. In late 2011, early 2012 - when Ear to the Ground was just an infant music blog, I was introduced to their music. Getting to know them and their music was a key factor in my continuing to press on through those early days. They were the E2TG Band of the Year in 2013 (the first Band of the Year that I selected myself). The End Men last played Nashville (I believe) was in September 2014 (at The Basement for the all-day post-Americana show that The Basement put on.  It is high time they came back! You do not want to miss this!

Opening the show is TBA! I've seen TBA several times, and every time it is a completely different experience. Kind of like Sour Du Jour.  Seriously, I can't tell you yet who the opener is going to be, but I guarantee it will be good!  Plan to get there early!

On to the Wild Wednesday Shuffle!  Remember, on Wednesday, our shuffle comes from all the songs I have stored on my phone. So, it can be new music, classics, from the E2TG archives etc.

I am disgusted daily by the behavior, actions, and words of the current occupant of the White House.

I am back after being sick yesterday.  I did take the down time to watch the 2016 documentary, Gimme Danger, about The Stooges (directed by one of my faves, Jim Jarmusch).  It brought me back to the feeling I had when I first encountered the music of The Stooges.  I think Fun House was the first album I heard, and it was one of those watershed musical moments for me.  It was interesting to see the kind of haphazard way the band came together and how the chemistry of all the pieces seemed to elevate the others.

It's Wednesday, and I'm just going to jump right into the "Wild Wednesday Shuffle" now...

Well, I am back after an extra extended weekend. I was supposed to be back yesterday, but I had to see a man about a tooth. OUCH!

First a quick recap - the incredible run of live music last week continued: Friday: Erin Rae, Tim Easton, and Ariel Bui.  Saturday: Ted Drozdowski, Gina Sicilia, and Jon Langford.

Back at the live music tonight as Amelia White's Residency kicks off with Jesse and Noah opening, and an awesome band backing Amelia White - that is at The 5 Spot.  ICYMI- here is a link to my preview of the September Residencies at The 5 Spot.

Later at The 5 Spot - Broads and Brews Comedy Show benefiting Thistle Farms with tarot card readings, comedy, and music by Joanna Barbera and more.

The evidence is mounting...  Derek Hoke's $2 Tuesdays at The 5 Spot are a guaranteed good time. The price, the music, the $2 Yazoos, the company... it never fails to brighten my week.

Last night, DJ Tim Hibbs was spinning songs meant to counteract the hate and fear that has been so prevalent this week. The line-up including two acts that have been featured in shuffles so far this week: Darrin Bradbury and Jesse and Noah. Plus Derek and his incredible trio, and the night ended with an incendiary performance by Porter and the Bluebonnet Rattlesnakes (from Austin).
(Porter being the amazing Chris Porter). Shonna Tucker joined them for several songs. And I did not catch the bass players name, but he left nothing on the stage ending on the ground while never missing a note.

Tonight, Darrin Bradbury will be on Music City Roots live from the Factory in Franklin.  If you cannot make it down, it streams at Music City Roots dot com.  Darrin will be doing a full-band set joined by Matty Alger, Megan Palmer, Derek Hoke, and Cameron Carrus.  Don't miss it!

Feeling very grateful and filled up with life right now.  The feeling probably won't last, but I'm digging it.

After work yesterday, I had the incredible opportunity to spend some time with Reckless Johnny Wales and get a early listen to his forthcoming album. First of all, the album is fantastic and I can't wait until the world gets to hear it.  Second of all, Reckless Johnny is a larger than life figure and also a very wonderful man.  He has some amazing stories and a very unique perspective on the "New Nashville".  I even got to give him a copy of The Foresters' CD.

Next, I headed to a run-through in preparation for my very first music video appearance which is scheduled to be shot on Sunday.  Details to come.

Next, I headed to The Family Wash to catch some of Bill Lloyd's CD Release show.  I was able to catch the end of the acoustic set and the beginning of the electric set.  It was as awesome as you would expect a Bill Lloyd show to be.  He is a power pop songwriter of the highest caliber.

Whew!  This weekend is the aforementioned video shoot, and Sue and I will have our 15 Minutes of Fame as we preview Double Shot with Joe and Sue at WXNA.  That will air at 2pm Sunday but really stay dialed in to WXNA all weekend (starting at 10:15a.m. Saturday) and then forever after that!

It is Friday, and we play "featured" music on Friday.  Enjoy!
