19. "It Was Always Too Late" by Secret Bad Boy
Next up, we have Secret Bad Boy - a Chicago band conceived and led by Ben Joseph of Ezra Furman's band. The song is a synth driven ode to nihilism and the vastness of space.
20. "Ghosts" by Idle Noise
The latest single from this indie rock band from Coventry.
21. "Not My Problem" by Scarlet Drive
New single from this indie rock band from Perth, Australia. The song was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic between the state boundaries between Perth and Sydney. I really dig this song. By the way, in searching through my e-mail, I discovered that this band had contacted me a few times going back to 2018, so I am really glad I gave this a listen.
22. "Background Worry" by Jack Stafford
We close today's review with the new single from British singer-songwriter Jack Stafford. The song captures the negative mental processes that many of go through daily. A wonderful chamber pop sound, and a great addition to the playlist.

Meanwhile, the next Double Shot falls on Leap Day, February 29, and in that spirit, we are playing songs about leaping, jumping, hopping etc.
Piggy-backing on some of my recent writing, I have been focusing my thoughts on what is important. It is sometimes easy to say what is important, but then, the way one spends ones time and money tells a different story. As we, the collective "we", are being pulled in so many different direction, and as there are voices (internal or external) which try to dictate our priorities. I am reminded to follow that still, small voice which provides a true north. For me, that north includes creative discovery and cultivating new friendships.

To be honest, every since we got the news Saturday night about David Olney, that has been the most on my mind. I did want to check in about a couple of live music shows that I caught over the weekend.
Friday night, I caught another Tim Carroll Rock N Roll Happy Hour at The 5 Spot. He does this every Friday from 6-8:30 (with no breaks) and done so for several years. I was trying to remember the last Friday he missed, and I had to go back to somewhere around 2014. The remarkable thing is that the show is all originals (I think "Uncle John" which he does sometimes is a traditional song), and every show is different. Friday's show featured several of what I consider "classic" Tim Carroll songs plus some new ones. It is all good, all loud, and a great way to spend a Friday evening.
Saturday, I headed back to The 5 Spot for another rock and roll show. This one featured Hannah Fairlight Group, Nashville Non Prophets, and The Truehearts. Hannah Fairlight Group rocked hard. Nashville Non Prophets featuring Mitch Laney came out with a high energy assault and never let up. The Truehearts remain a favorite of mine. They rock, but in a more subtle way and together it was a great show.
I posted my review of Sunshine Boys opening for Juliana Hatfield at Basement East.
Sunday Night was the CD Release Show for John Dennis' Mortal Flames. I referenced that show in my piece on David Olney yesterday. To expound, just a little because I am short on time. John Dennis' Mortal Flames is a concept album about Life and Death and everything in between. It is a bit about our immortality being tied to the light we leave with others. It is heavy at time, but it is ultimately a life affirming work, and I suspect it will be among my favorites of 2020 when the year is said and done.
A fun night at The 5 Spot for the opening night of Brian Wright and Friends April Residency. A killer band, great songs, and guest Shannon McNally.
Plus, I stuck around for most of $2 Tuesday with great hangs and more great music.

#E2TG Favorite among Favorites Darrin Bradbury just released a new single - his first release since signing to ANTI- Records. It's for his song, "Newark" which is one of my favorite of his newest batch of songs.
Now, it's time for our regularly schedule "Wild Wednesday" shuffle. I love Wednesdays because it is a bit like digging through old boxes - you never know what you will find.
Well, yesterday was a holiday. I was going to try to post something, but I ended up spending a large portion of my day at the eye doctor. Then, I went into work today (and listened to the shuffle below while traversing the snowy roads of Nashville with people who do and do not know how to drive in snowy conditions. Then, around eleven, pretty much everyone decided to go home, so I slipped and slid down the hill to my car and made my way home where I am writing this post.
Anyway, it's extremely cold, and I am sipping on a hot beverage.
I have to give a huge shout out to everyone who made it out Saturday for my birthday bash. Special thanks to those who bought me beer and to those who unexpectedly brought me presents, and extra special thanks to Conrad y Skordalia, Danny Henry, and Nelson, Zimmerman, and Quinn for providing great music.
