Just an update:  E2TG will be taking a break next week.  I will be posting a new Featured Friday Playlist at midnight and featuring the first section of songs tomorrow, but I won't feature the rest until a week from Monday.  So, no new Featured Friday Playlist next week, but I will compiling songs for the next playlist - which will come April 2.

Anyway  - here we go with today's post!

Today, we wrap up our recap of this week's Featured Friday Playlist with songs #31-36:

31. "Tears" by Leahy

We start off this segment of music with the latest from this Canadian family band - consisting of the five Leahy sisters (Julie, Erin, Maria, Siobheann, and Denise), their brother Frank, and Frank's son Xavier. A lovely song to start us off.

32. "Parabellum" by Wolfe Hybrid

Next up, we have the latest single from this duo from L.A. made up of two veterans of the film/TV business who came together in 2019. Really great track. 

33. "Alone" by VaughnBornFamous

Next, we have some alt-rock from this New Jersey native now based in L.A. Great track. 

34. "Heart Alive" by The Anahit

This new track from this band based in Budapest was released on International Women's Day and deals with the subject of domestic abuse and violence. I look forward to hearing more from this band. 

35. "War" by The Band Repent

We shift gears to bring you the most recent track from this thrash metal band from Casper, Wyoming. The band formed in August 2019 - playing their first show a couple of months later. They have an EP coming soon. I dig this. 

36. "Out With the Old" by MONOWHALES

We close things out for today and for this week's playlist with the latest single from this Toronto based band who scored a number 2 hit on the Canadian Alternative Rock chart with a previous release.  A great track to take us out. As we set the stage for a new Playlist at midnight (or so).

By  the way, it is time to vote.  Not talking political elections - although you should be informed, register, and vote every chance you get.  But, I am talking about The Best of Nashville 2018 Poll going on now at The Nashville Scene. Voting goes on through September 6.  Here's what you do:  Go HERE and followed the instructions.  You have to vote in at least 25 categories for your vote to count.  No need to "Submit" at the end, and you can leave the site and go back anytime to vote in more categories.

Here are a few suggestions:  The big one!  Last year, WXNA was voted Best Radio Station in Nashville - after just over one year on the air.  We would love to have your vote again this year.

Best DJ - I humble submit that you consider Joe and Sue of Double Shot (but truthfully any of the great WXNA DJs are deserving).

Best Blog - Hey you got to vote in 25 Categories - you might as well throw some love our way by voting for Ear to the Ground E2TG for Best Blog.


The week rolls on. We've reach the midway mark, and that means it is time to get "Wild" with our usually unusual "Wild Wednesday" shuffle. This shuffle comes from the collection of all the music currently saved to my phone.  It can and often does include new music, classic tunes, weird obscurities, and more of the usual nonsense (as my friend Paul Glavin of WXNA's Eargasm likes to say).

Civil disobedience is supposed to be civil, it is not supposed to be convenient. (although I'm having a hard time understanding why someone respectfully kneeling during the National Anthem bothers people so much.  (that is a rhetorical question). 

Racism and other forms of bigotry are not new, but it is disheartening to see so many racists and bigots being emboldened by the current administration.  Maybe it is necessary to bring evil into the light in order to destroy it.  That, at least, is my hope.

Wow, the 3rd Quarter of 2017 is almost over... It's just about time for me to start thinking about the 3rd Annual Earie Awards and the 2017 Band(s) and Artist(s) of the Year.  As is often the case in recent months, I find that I cannot possibly get to all of the music sent my way.  I try my best because I know some really awesome stuff is slipping by me. And, even with those that slip by... my "New Music" playlist recently topped 500 songs.  Beginning Monday, I am going to adjust my schedule to cover more of the "New Music", and I will also be working to clear some older songs from that playlist. I am really excited about some of the new music that has been coming my way...

Today is Wednesday which is "Wild Wednesday" here at E2TG.  We shuffle up all the songs in my phone memory and present a decent cross-section of the diversity of music that I dig. Sometimes, I will think that maybe I could have a bigger audience if I narrowed my focus... but I could also have a bigger audience if I used click-bait headlines and made controversial statements about popular artists just for the sake of being controversial. I don't want to do any of those things... so here is E2TG just being E2TG..... Peace...

Well! Made it to the mid-point of the week.  Being off Monday has thrown everything off for me...

Last night, I had a great night at The High Watt.  Seeing Todd Farrell perform for the first time in I don't know how long - it was great to be reminded of what an incredible songwriter he is. Heard some old favorites plus some songs which will be on the next Benchmarks album whenever that comes out. Saw Arliss Nancy from Denver for the first time last night. Really dug their music and energy.  Then, I got to catch the first part of Bill Eberle's set - same band as I saw at the Basement a few weeks back. Still awesome.

Then, I had to dart across the river to catch the last part of the Family Wash set of Sean Quinn and the Tremblers (featuring Jon Latham on guitar).  Man these guys sounded so good. Kind of a power poppy vibe - think Big Star/ Beatles and and... Great songs - can't wait for the album!

Well - we have a pretty wild shuffle for a Wednesday.  Note - I could not find several of the actual songs for the video playlist, but I made some strategic substitutions. Enjoy.

I have been so inspired of late, watching friends having their dreams come true in so many ways....  The Americana Music Association announced their final group of artists for next months festival, and I was so happy to see some good friends on the list (many of them making their debuts as official showcase artists). Several people who may have read about on E2TG are on the list including the most recent two Artist of the Year!

Seeing the Foresters and others from the Dord Music Group - absolutely killing it at Athens PopFest and getting an amazing opportunity to play alongside their heroes from the Elephant 6 collective.

See friends releasing new albums and getting the opportunities to play "big" shows...

It moves me to do more with the opportunities I have been given.

For a lot of reasons, I do love the city that I have called home for the last quarter of a century. We have our problems to be sure - rapid growth without the appropriate infrastructure improvements for one and the schlock that passes for country music being churned out like fake margarine from glitzy offices on music row for another and disregarding the culture of the city in pursuit of supporting the "it" city status for yet another.  But I digress...

I do love Nashville because in spite of all of that, there are people who care about music and art and words.

Last night, my evening began at a coffee shop on Fatherland Street in East Nashville called The Post East for the 85th edition of East Side Storytellin' - a series which matches a poet or prose writer with a songwriter.  The poet last night was named Joshua Moore, and I absolutely loved his work and his delivery. Powerful words.  Words have power.  The songwriter was a guy that readers of E2TG should know. Jon Latham's profile is on the rise, and he demonstrated the reasons for that well in his short set of songs.

After that, I headed to The Basement East for a night of music with Jon Latham hot on my heels. In no time, he was doing a quick sound check - he backed up Voice alumnus Peyton Parker on her opening set of songs. A great opening for was would turn out to be an extraordinary night.   Carl Anderson followed with (truly) witty stage banter and wonderful songs.

Next, Darrin Bradbury hit the stage backed by Tim Carroll on guitar, Cameron Carrus on bass, and Matty Alger on drums.  What followed was nothing short of transcendent. There were people dancing!  No... I mean really, there were people dancing at a Darrin Bradbury show!  The band rocked - I mean really rocked. Darrin's (and Tim's) punk roots were in full view and they even did a cover of The Misfits' "Where Eagles Dare" at the end of Darrin's song, "Joey" which references the song.   I have no idea how many times I have seen Darrin perform - in various combinations - but last night was one for the ages.

Adrian + Meredith (who you may recall closed the E2TG Anniversary show) had the unenviable task of closing the show and following Darrin and his band, and they rose to the occasion with a rollicking fun set.

A truly awesome night of music in Music City (East Nashville to be more specific).

Now - it is Wednesday and we call it Wild Wednesday because we shuffle up a playlist that features songs from all of the other playlists plus a few that do not really fit the other playlists at all.

TGIF!  As the temperature cranks up, so does the musical fun.  First of all, it was great to see Darrin Bradbury playing with Megan Palmer as part of the Don Gallardo residency at The 5 Spot yesterday. Second of all, Don Gallardo!!!!  Man oh man!  He is so good.  He still has a few more weeks left in residency, and I high recommend you get yourself down there.  I understand that next week he has the red hot band The Cordovas lead by Joe Firstman.  The Cordovas were recently added to the lineup for the Americana Music Association Festival in September, but you can see them next Thursday without a wristband.

I had a great time hanging out with friends last night and a few of us migrated over to Drifters to see Tim Carroll and Luella along backed by Cameron Carrus and Toby Caldwell.

My point is that this was first class, grade A musical talent all within a couple of blocks in East Nashville on a pleasant Thursday evening.  Sometimes, I think we, here, take what we have for granted, and I was grateful for the opportunity last night to really appreciate what we have.

A final notice (from this forum), that Double Shot with Joe and Sue on WXNA-LP Nashville debuts tomorrow morning at 11am Central. This is my new radio show with the amazing Sue Havlish.  Speaking for myself, I am beyond humbled to get this opportunity to join this incredible radio station that has already reshaped the Nashville airwaves.  You can tune in at 101.5FM if you are in the immediate Nashville area.  Everyone else, can listen via wxnafm.org or via the TuneIn App.

The unique and wonderful space known as The Building will be closing soon.  Over the years, it has provided a home for many of East Nashville's finest songwriters and creative people. Right now, a series of "farewell" shows are happening there.  To judge by last night's Open Road Monday, this is not a wake but a celebration of all that has happened in the years that The Building has been opened.

A large crowd gathered for featured acts Darrin Bradbury (with Megan Palmer) and Daniel Lawrence Walker and his band.  I stuck around for the open mic and saw a couple of guys whose names I did not catch, Yosi Mesbah, Dave Pahanish, and Tom Schreck.  It was a great night of some of the best of what Nashville does. 

The Building will be missed, and I hope other places open up to fill the void that will be left when it closes.
