Well, it is another Monday here at E2TG and another Music City Monday. Exploring the artists and bands who call or have called Nashville home. Plus in case, I mistakenly include someone not connected to Nashville, I will add - will call or should have called Nashville home....
We have a pretty nifty list - so let's get to it!
"Tillamook County Jail" by Todd Snider
East Nashville Skyline will turn 15 years old this summer. The album and the artist remain a vital part of the music community that I love so much. This is the second song on the album.
"Satellite" by Ghost Town Remedy
Funny how random shuffles work. Last week, we featured a new song and video by Nashville band Ghost Town Remedy. Today, we have two songs from the band's earlier release - Caffeine Dreams. This is the first of those tracks - see the video playlist for an "official" video of this song.
"Sunset on Sunset Boulevard" by David Olney
Next up, we have a track from Live at Norm's River Roadhouse - a 2008 live album that featured Olney, Sergio Webb, and Jack Irwin. The song would later be released on Olney's 2011 EP Film Noir. A prime example of Olney's incredible songwriting.
"Sundress Song" by Justin and the Cosmics
From Sunset Boulevard to a sundress. Next up, we have Justin and the Cosmics with a track from another 2008 album - Hangin' Out in My Body.
"Yesterday When I Was Young" by Bebe Buell
Next up, we have a track from Bebe Buell's most recent album Baring It All (Greetings from Nashbury Park) - which was released last year. This is the final track on the album, and it is a cover of a song originally written by French under the title "Hier encore" - written by Charles Aznavour. It was subsequently released in English with English lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer. The English language version was most famously recorded by Roy Clark. The song was recorded over 90 times prior to 1972. Bebe Buell has made her home in Nashville for several years. She is connected to many of key figures in rock and roll over the latter part of the 20th Century.
"Goner" by Idle Bloom
Next up, we have a track from the 2017 album Little Deaths from Nashville rock band Idle Bloom. Idle Bloom formed in 2014 out of the remnants of an earlier band. I got to cover one of their 2015 shows at 3rd and Lindsley when I was writing for No Depression. This was their debut album. The follow up Flood the Dial was released last year.
"Love Gifts" by Loudon Wainwright III
I am really glad Loudon Wainwright spent soon years in Nashville so that I can include him in this playlist. This is a live recording from his recently released compilation, Years in the Making. I have been on a months long Loudon Wainwright kick, and it has been good to be reminded about what a great songwriter he is.
"Waiting Room" by Ghost Town Remedy
Next up, we have our second listen of the day from Caffeine Dreams. Be sure to check out our post about their most recent single - "Super Glue" which we posted a week ago.
"Too Much Month at the End of the Xanax" by Tommy Womack
And we close with a track from There I Said It - Tommy Womack's 2007 album. I got to hear Tommy Womack reading from his latest book, Dust Bunnies last week. In addition to being an author and one of Nashville best songwriters, he is the host of two radio shows - one on WXNA - called the Happiness Hour and the other on another station :-).
