It is Friday, and that means a brand new Featured Friday Playlist.  You can check it out below and follow along on Spotify and/or you can read our song by song review over the next week - here at E2TG.  The review starts after the jump with songs 1-5.

I wanted to highlight a couple of new and recent releases which are not on Spotify.

First up:  Bananas by Pussycat Doghouse.  Pussycat Doghouse is a pop-punk/ska punk/indie pop band from Nashville.  We were made familiar with the band through their bass played Bill Bois -who we first met from Eight O'Five Jive a few years back.  Digging this album - more to come. The album was released on July 1.


The other album was released back in June.  It is from the fine folks at Music Maker Relief Foundation.  The album is called Amazing Grace and it contains a dozen unique interpretations of the spiritual standard.

Featured Friday Songs 1-5:

"Interrogations" by Afton Wolfe

We start things off with a track from Petronius' Last Meal from Afton Wolfe. These recordings were mixed by Mark Robinson and feature some of Nashville's finest musicians including Dan Seymour.  This album masterfully combines roots music with jazz influences. Wolfe's rich vocals highlight the incredible lyrics. 

"Fugitive Heart" by Ten Penny Gypsy

Our friends from Arkansas Ten Penny Gypsy are back with a new album, and we have the title track.  Like their previous release, the album was produced by Anthony Crawford (Sugarcane Jane, Willie Sugarcapps, Neil Young and more). Ten Penny Gypsy is Justin Patterson and Laura Lynn Danley.  Producer Crawford plays several different instruments, and Buddy Case contributes some Spanish guitar.  

"Mystery Writers" by Divine Horsemen

Divine Horsemen are back with their first new music since the 1980s.  They were on the leading edge of the soon to be burgeoning alt-country movement. Chris D. (Flesheaters) and E2TG favorite Julie Christensen return on vocals, with Peter Andrus on guitar, Bobby Permanent on bass, DJ Bonebrake (X) on drums, and Doug Lacy on Piano.  This is being release ahead of a new abum.

"These Days" by Stephie James

Next up, we have the first single and title track from the forthcoming new album by Nashville singer-songwriter Stephie James.  A wonderful song. I always love catching her live sets (hope that happens again soon).

"Stabby Mike" by Nocona

We close with a track from the new album Los Dos from L.A. band Nocona. In many ways, Nocona represent a natural progression of what Divine Horsemen started thirty something years ago. Great to have both bands in this week's playlist.
