Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!
Onward and upward. It is Wednesday, and that is the day things tend to get "wild" at E2TG. I call it Wild Wednesday - just because the shuffle comes from all of songs saved to my phone. That means you might hear recent music that we have been featuring, past featured music, songs from my personal collection, random music files I got through various sources, plus some songs from the earliest days of E2TG, and sometimes songs that I have no clue how they came to be in my possession. Let's jump right in!

Wednesday Morning Music Shuffle - Friday, Saturday, and XTC Mix
Tweet #E2TG
Well Americana Music Association week in kicking into high gear here in Nashville. So many incredible musicians in town, official and unofficial showcases and shows and whatnot everywhere you go. Music that represents the pretty diverse collection of genres and subgenres that fall loosely or tightly under the big Americana umbrella... "It's a big enough umbrella, but it's always me who ends up getting wet."
Forever, swimming against the wind or pissing into the stream or whatever, Ear to the Ground presents a shuffle which includes some 1950s Portuguese Fado music, some 1970s Afro-jazz from Nigeria, a 90s lo-fi band from Olympia Washington, some awesome alternative, jazz, funk, electronic music from Philly, a 90s Rock band from Knoxville, along with some other great stuff which should or could fit in nicely at Americana Fest. Shall we?

Friday Morning Music Shuffle - Monsterdogs and Zen Koans Mix

One thing I take pride in with E2TG is the diversity of music that I'm willing to include in my mix. Frankly, as much as I love Americana and as much as Americana is a pretty wide ranging "genre" of music, sometimes I need some metal, some punk, some music from far corners of the world, some experimental crazy stuff, some classical...
I need to give a shoutout to my friends from Valued Customer who has done more than their fair share in expanding my mind and my musical knowledge beyond all constraints. They have a blog of their own called P E A C E F O R K which explores some less travelled (but supremely awesome spokes in the complex web of musical styles and influences. Some of the music they've been posting should be showing up here soon, and I can't wait to share it.
While I've got your attention - I direct you to Valued Customer's masterpiece Kalpa which can be yours if the price is right (or wrong).
On to the shuffle for today....

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - Give Me All You Got Mix
Tweet #E2TG
Here at Ear to the Ground, you never know what to
expect. At least that is my hope. I build a playlist, and I let the Shuffle
function do the rest. Sometimes, I want
a particular artist to come up sooner, but it all seems to work out. Anyway, musically, stylistically, and
emotionally – today’s songs cut a pretty wide path through the landscape of
human interactions. From the breezy
indie pop of Conway and an upbeat mega hit from Pharrell Williams to some
harder edged music from Tomas Doncker and The Lies. Borderline creepy sweetness from Sam Davison
to Deena oh so cheerful, let down song.

Okay - how many #E2TG readers watched the Grammys last night? What did you think? Were there parts you liked? Was it all utter crap? How well did it represent the state of music from October 2012 - September 2013? Seriously? Really? Was it worst than you could imagine or better than you expected?
So here's the thing, for as long as I can remember, The Grammy's have been completely out of touch with the music I like. Or at least a decade too late. That being said, there were a few parts of last nights broadcast that were okay.
Here's the thing, regardless of your opinion of the Grammys, the fact is that every night of the week in clubs and small venues all across the country, indie artists are creating memorable moments playing a huge variety of music. Many of these bands and artists do not get the hype or press that your Grammy "caliber" performers get. Nonetheless, they aren't that hard to find. Take the time, seek them out, and regularly read music blogs like Ear to the Ground (or just read Ear to the Ground if I may ever so humbly suggest.)
Anyway, we have a shuffle filled with interest music that you may or may not have heard about. Check these artists out and see what appeals to you...

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - Rainy Days and Mondays Mix
Tweet #E2TG
We have arrived at Monday. It's a dreary day here in Nashville, but we have the antidote. We've loaded up with a bunch of music which we have been saving up since we started our Year End Review last month. The songs added are a good combination of new music, new to us music, the return of some old friends, a first meeting with what we hope are some new friends, plus the usual collection of the classic, the weird, the obscure, and the unexpected.
Today's mix is a good cross-section of this new music - plus a couple of hold outs from the previous month's playlist.
To it.... we go... jump...
