Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Hashtag No Filter Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

In case you missed it, E2TG premiered the new single from Erica Blinn this morning.  Check it out HERE.

Other than that, it is Friday - and this is my last post before Americana Fest madness gets underway next week... sort of... I guess Monday and Tuesday's posts will technically be before AMA Fest, but Monday night, I'm going to see Homemade Sin at The Family Wash.  This is Homemade Sin without Dan Baird who is recovering from an illness. Warner Hodges and Joe Blanton (two folks who I have been fans off for over 30 years) will be helping to hold down the fort. Looking forward to seeing lots of friends that night.

Since it is Friday, E2TG brings you Featured Friday - songs from my "New Music" playlist... let's shuffle...

Featured Friday Morning Music Shuffle - For Money or Against Your Will Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

And so it goes, and we reach the end of another work week here at #E2TG.  Heading into the weekend just ahead of Thanksgiving here in the United States. There is  a ton of great music happening this weekend at different venues.  Choose your poison and get out there.

Among the shows coming up today and tomorrow (and no I cannot make it to all of these):  Today: Joey Kneiser of Glossary is releasing a new record, and he will play this evening at Grimey's.  Will Kimbrough is also he releasing a new record, and he will be playing The Basement at 7:00 with Nellie Clay opening. Today is Tommy Womack's birthday, and we will playing around 9:00 at The Family Wash. Also tonight, the East Nashville Underground: A Magical Reunion is going on at The Basement East.  Plus there is the weekly, Tim Carroll Rock and Roll Happy Hour at The 5 Spot. Plus probably tons of other stuff.

Tomorrow night: One of this blog's favorites Mark Robinson Band will be playing an early show at The 5 Spot (6:00 start).  Joey Kneiser will be playing that venue after that.  Meanwhile, over at the Family Wash - Knoxville poet and songwriter R.B. Morris will be playing.  Plus the aforementioned East Nashville Underground event continues at The Beast.  and More...

We have a Featured Friday Shuffle that I am really happy about today... let's take a gander...

Wide Open Wednesday Shuffle - Summertime Thing Mix

Trying a new thing here at Ear to the Ground.... every Wednesday (or at least this Wednesday... or maybe some Wednesday's) I am going to Shuffle up all the songs in my phone's memory and see what happens...  Usually, the Morning Shuffles come from a playlist called "Current Stuff" which includes... well current stuff and basically all the recent adds plus some random stuff to keep things interesting.  Songs are moved off of the playlist as they are featured and new music is added all the time (as memory allows).  Beyond that playlist, I have approximately 4,000+ songs stored in my phone at any given time. As you might expect, it's a weird collection of some really interesting music that I've collected in various ways over the years.  I have to say, the fact that Mary Gauthier and Chuck Prophet were the first two songs that came up... I am feeling optimistic.

Friday Morning Music Shuffle - Camp Crystal Lake Mix

I am a long-time triskaidekaphobe, but so far (knock on wood), today has been pretty good.  We had a change in the weather here in Nashville, and the heat and humidity finally broke into a sunny and rather cool day.  Which is good because it is really hard to get excited about the return of Pumpkin Spice anything when it's mid 90s and humid.  It just is.

Well circumstances being circumstantial, I don't have the hoped for music explosion today - just a regular old shuffle. Still, as regular old shuffles go, this one is pretty sweet.

Monday Morning Music Shuffle - Bright Idea Mix

Good morning... we are not ready to jump into another week, but alas, the time is upon us. This week, we wrap up another Band of the Month poll.  There is still time to vote.

Let's get into our shuffle for the day:

We are shuffling up our archival playlist - which features some all time favorite songs.

First up we have Everyday People the first single (Novemeber 1968) from the classic 4th album  by Sly and the Family Stone, Stand! which was released in May 1969.  It's hard not to groove to this one.

Next up we have True Faith, a 1987 single by the British Band New Order.  The song was one of two new songs recorded for the Substance 1987 Singles collection. Different mixes of this song are featured on various rereleases by the band, but the original track was never released on a regular album, but remains one of the band's best known songs.

And finally, we have the title track from Mary Gauthier's 4th studio album.  Mercy Now is a powerful song.  Gauthier was born in New Orleans, lived for a time in the Northeast and now makes her home in Nashville.  She is playing the Americana Music Festival in September.
