E2TG 5/20/2021 - Hugs and Beer - Separate Mix (This Ain't Love Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

A bit short on time, I was out last night - seeing people and checking out Mark Robinson Band with John Jackson - which was next level good  and the Brian Wright and the Sneak-Ups with guest Jon Latham.  I realized that both played as part of my 2017 E2TG Residency.  It was such a wonderful and needed night.

Time to wrap up this week's Featured Friday Playlist.  And we really did save some of the best for last...

35. "Dreaming with Alice - Verse 1" by Mark Fry
This is a reissue of 1971 - sought after psych-folk album which came out just last week on Now-Again Reserve Records.  Tremendous. I didn't know anything about this album or about Mark Fry but I am captivating. Fry was just 19 when this was originally recorded.
36. "Alive" by Dope Sagittarius

37. "Until When" by Jaffa Road
New single from this Toronto based Jewish roots band.  It is the lead single from an album due out in the fall.
38. "Shooting Star" by Løwenørn
A new project from our old friend Sverre of Supercrashingstar.  Supercrashingstar has a new album out - which we will feature in the new Playlist premiering tomorrow.
39. "Sad Girls Club" by I M U R

40. "Accountability" by DeLila Black
Great new punk country single from the UK - with BJ Cole on lap steel guitar.
41. "Fierce and Delicate Things" by Shay Martin Lovette
And why not close out the playlist with one of the strongest songs on the list. Scatter & Gather is the new album from this North Carolina based singer-songwriter.  Fantastic songs and great sounding music. A wonderful way to close out the week's playlist.

E2TG 2019 Recap - Part 9 - Shine On Mix (Toxic Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Time is short!  Here is the Shuffle for today!

"Do the Damn Thing" by Tino Drima (from Suitin' Up)

"Can't Get Enough of You" by Reckless Johnny Wales and His Trans Genre Orchestra (from End It With a Love Song)

A year with new Reckless Johnny is a good year.  This time, he is in a bit of a romantic mood.

"Ghost" by Rod Picott (from Tell the Truth Shame the Devil)

So pleased to get to cover Rod Picott's excellent album this year.  One of Nashville's absolute finest.

"Josh Gibson" by Coyote Motel (Ted Drozdowski) (from Coyote Motel)

Ted Drozdowski takes things in a new direction with the first of two albums released by his new Coyote Motel project.

"360 No Scope" by Ghost Town Remedy (from 360 No Scope - single)

We got the chance to premier this fun video from a great Nashville rock band.

"Nothing To Do With You" by Charlie Hager (from Truth and Love)

Charlie Hager may have moved to Vegas, but make no mistake - this is a REAL Nashville album.  He remains an important part of the community here.

"Ginger Ale and Lorna Doones" by Amy Speace (from Me and the Ghost of Charlemagne)

Sometimes I get lucky and get invited to CD release parties and sometimes I get really lucky and that party is for the new album by the one and only Amy Speace.

"State of Mind" by Eye Said So; Taeryn Rayne (from Eye Said So)

"Who Cares" by David G. Smith (from Who Cares)

"Shine On" by Steve Poltz (from Shine On)

Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Humankind Mix (Not My War Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

Okay - This will be my last shuffle until next Tuesday.  Big doings this weekend, and Monday is a holiday from work.  So, let's go!

Got those rainy day, mid-week, stayed out too late blues...   But, not really blues, but it is mid-week and rainy, and I did stay out too late...   Another fine edition of $2 Tuesday - great hangs, cool music, and $2 Yazoos for $2 admission.  Jack Silverman was dazzling with his jazzy, improvisational guitar sounds as he opened the night of music, Kristen Englenz made her $2 Tuesday debut to close out the night - with a killer band. In between was host Derek Hoke and Cara Louise from St. Louis. Plus DJ Tim Hibbs spinning Halloween themed songs.

Onward, it is Wednesday and that is day, we get wild and just throw open the shuffle to whatever songs are on my phone. Let's go!

Topical Thursday Morning Shuffle - Cape on the Floor Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

It's been a few days since I added any commentary to the current state of things in this country and in the world. Honestly, I am overwhelmed and exhausted by it all - but I am fighting to stay alert. In some ways, I see hope in the mounting investigation over Russia, but beyond and president or administration, I am deeply concerned about the ever-widening divide in this country.  I am also concerned about the potentially lasting damage being done to the environment, to basic human rights, to our country's reputation, and on and on. #Resist #Persist
********************************************************************************

Well, it's a wrap!  Thanks again to everyone who came out last night for the finale of the E2TG Residency at The 5 Spot.  FuzzQueen rocked as expected and won over some new fans in Nashville and Amelia White was awesome with kick ass band - The Blue Souvenirs.

And thanks to everyone who came out, played, and/or played a part in making this month really special and something I will never forget.

Onward and Upward...  a couple of notes:  Sunday June 4 marks the One Year Anniversary of the beginning of broadcasting at WXNA.  They are celebrating at Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge from 3-8.  Everyone is invited - and you should come - this is YOUR community radio station.

Monday June 5 is the Jon Latham benefit at The Basement East - a pretty killed lineup will help raise some more money for Jon Latham who - as you may know - had some major health issues earlier in the month.

On Thursday's we shuffle songs around a topic.  Earlier this year, the topic was centered around the times in which we live.  For the 6th Anniversary, I began a new theme around a playlist of artists we have played/written about over the entire six years.  We will continue that for a while... Today's shuffle includes songs that span the years and diverse music styles we have featured.

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - The Good Life Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Okay - we are back after an extended weekend to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., and to think about the fights which are still going on and progress made and miles yet to go...

Since we last were together, I got to take in Crackerboots with my daughter for my birthday.  Then Sunday night after his 3rd and Lindsley show was postponed, Darrin Bradbury and friends took over Dee's Country Cocktail Lounge.  It was a really great night of music with Jon Latham, Rayvon Pettis, Sally Jaye, Jeremy Ivey, and Mr. Bradbury himself.  Darrin's band included Laur Joamets who just 24 hours before had backed Sturgill Simpson on his incredible SNL performance (if you still have not seen that - go look that up NOW and then come back).  His guests included Margo Price.  It was all in all a typically stellar night of music in Nashville (well Madison).

Let's get to the shuffle - which is a little extended due to a (scheduled) detour I had to make on the way to work. This is a Trending Tuesday shuffle - heavily weighted to Nashville artists (past or present).

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Satellites Fade Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well it is Tuesday or since it is Thanksgiving week, I like to think of it as Thursday.

Recorded a future Double Shot show last night that will air the first Saturday of December. It is going to be a good one.  This Saturday, we will be live playing songs dedicated to holiday travelers. Called "Highway and Bi-Way (or To Grandmother's House We Go).

Staying busy and trying to think about this years' Earie Awards without getting overwhelmed - it has been an amazing year for music (don't let anyone tell you different).

Shuffling today from the "New Music" playlist for Trending Tuesday.  Let's go...

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - No Mercy Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

More senselessness.  More tragedy. More violence. More loss. Followed by more rhetoric. More words. More opportunities to answer darkness with light. More opportunities to unify.

These are my words which seem inadequate:  It needs to be about love.  Not worrying about who someone loves, but just about love.  There are many seemingly controversial issues wrapped up in everyone of these mass shootings, and these latest one more so than others.

My love to the LBGTQ community. My love to the millions of peaceful Muslim-Americans. Love to those filled with such hate. Love to those who live in fear. Love to those who are in pain.  Gun control, radicalized religions, terror, hate, intolerance...

My heart is hurting, but I cannot allow myself to give in to despair. There is beauty all around us. We move forward in love.  And as I have had to say far too many times since I began writing E2TG - MUSIC HEALS.    Love to all of you. Let's take care of one another today.
********************************************************************************

Moving on... A big thanks to everyone who tuned in Saturday for the official debut of Double Shot with Joe and Sue.  If you missed it (or even if you caught it), we will be on every Saturday from 11-1pm Central Time on WXNA-LP Nashville (101.5 FM, wxnafm.org, or via the TuneIn app).  Our next show's theme will be "We've Got You Covered" - where we will be spinning cover tunes (or in some cases the original tune that was later covered).

Onward to Music City Monday!

E2TG Video Premiere: "These Days" by Charlie Hager

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Ear to the Ground has been featuring songs from American Saga, the new album by Charlie Hager  for a few weeks.  I previously described his music as pure honest songwriting.  It is a sad commentary on our times that I almost felt the need to explain that I meant that as a compliment.  In some ways, that is what this song and the brand new video, which we are premiering today, is all about.

Featured Friday Morning Shuffle - Pounding My Life Away Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I am getting really excited about the E2TG 5 Year Anniversary Party!  I was looking at the line-up and thinking, man, I would go to this show even if I was not hosting it.  The link below will take you to the Facebook event.  Go ahead and make a commitment (or at least a 'Maybe') so that you can in the know about updates.  Although I have no specific reason to believe that we are going to reach capacity, if you are concerned, I recommend you arrive early and catch the RB Morris residency show immediately before out big to-do. Hell, I recommend the RB Morris show even if you are not concerned about a capacity crowd. But, I certainly hope you stick around.

MAY 18th at THE FIVE SPOT (East Nashville) - E2TG 5 Year Anniversary Extravaganza!!!!

Back to normal posting schedule for today... Featured Friday has arrived! (Most likely the final post of April!)

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - The Road Got Blurry Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

So, spring has arrived and here in Nashville that has meant a brief cold snap. I seem to be over whatever it was that kind of knocked me out at the end of last week... ready to take on a new week. According to Facebook, I have 12 events with 51 friends coming up this week.  Fortunately, I do get Friday off work...

I did manage to venture out into a misty rain last night for a fine night of music at The Basement. Despite some vocal duress, Jon Latham was amazing as always.  Throwing a new song (for me anyway) into the mix and inviting up Peyton Parker to sing on a couple of tunes.  Peyton Parker has been on the current season of The Voice.   Next up was Charlie Whitten, who I saw a few weeks back, I once again was struck by his awesome songwriting, gentle good humor, and his whistling (which especially impresses me because I cannot really whistle).  Closing the night was Caleb Caudle who recently released Carolina Ghost to widespread acclaim. A great ending to a great night of music at a pretty pack out Basement.

It's Monday - I'm in Music City... let's do Music City Monday....

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Shoot Right Through You Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Kind of a dreary, post-time change Monday in Nashville - although the sun was out this morning enough to blind me as I drove in to work.

It's a another Music City Monday - time to feature songs some how, some way connected to Nashville, Tennessee.

Darrin Bradbury is playing tonight at the fairly recently reopened 12th and Porter...  Busy week of music coming up... more later...
