Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Unhappy With You Mix (Generals and Majors Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

It's time for another "Wild Wednesday" shuffle - covering all the songs on my phone!

"Amanda's Song" by Adam Carroll

First up, we have Adam Carroll going back to his 2000 second album Lookin' Out the Screen Door which was produced by Lloyd Maines.  The takeaway is Adam Carroll is one of the best songwriters we have - old stuff, new stuff, it is all great.

"Secrets of My Dreams" by RJ Cowdery

Next up, we have another track from What If This is All There Is by RJ Cowdery. The latest album by the Columbus, Ohio singer-songwriter was produced by Nashville's own Amy Speace (we are currently featuring Speace's new album). Cowdery was a Kerrville New Folk Winner in 2008.

"Unhappy With You" by Telepathic Teddy Bear

Long-time E2TG fave, Telepathic Teddy Bear returns to the shuffle with a single released this past May. I notice that TTB released another single in August - a cover of the Smashing Pumpkins "1979".  Telepathic Teddy Bear is based in Monterrey, Mexico.

"Never Good" by Charlie Hager

So excited to have a first listen to Truth and Love - the forthcoming and long-awaited new album from Las Vegas (by way of Nashville) singer-songwriter Charlie Hager.  I have been anticipating new music from Hager for some time.  The album was recorded in East Nashville before Hager moved to Vegas, and it is being released digitally via Flour Sack Cape Records on November 1.  All sorts of familiar names can be found in the credits. This song was co-written by Hager, our old friend Eddie Crummer, and Chris Thaete.  The album was produced by Joe Lekkas and the album design was by Ben de la Cour.  To celebrate - and since I could not find a YouTube clip for this song, the video playlist features Hager's "These Days" music video from his previous album.  We premiered that video back in 2016 and it far and away our most popular post on E2TG.

"Fluoridated Water" by Ezra Bell

Next, we return to the self-titled debut album by the Portland, Oregon based band Ezra Bell - featuring the songwriting of Benjamin Wuamett.  We featured the album last year.

"One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" by George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers

Next up, we have George Thorogood and the Destroyers with their take on a 1953 blues song written by Rudy Toombs and first recorded by Amos Milburn. It was later recorded by John Lee Hooker.  Thorogood recorded his version in 1977 and it is done as a Medley with Hooker's "House Rent Boogie" which we got from the Rounder Records 45th anniversary compilation from 2015.

"John Henry's Lullaby" by Daphne Lee Martin and Raise the Rent

Next up, we have a lovely song from Scared Fearless by Connecticut based singer-songwriter Daphne Lee Martin.

"Can't Find My Way Home" by Stuffy Shmitt

A lot to unpack here.  This song was included on Stuffy Shmitt's covers album Other People's Songs and on his compilation 12 songs. When I first heard it, I bought Shmitt a GPS. Turns out, it is a cover of a Blnd Faith song (the original recording featured the late Ginger Baker). The song was written by Steve Winwood.  You may recall that Winwood's daughter Lilly appeared with Don Gallardo for week 2 of our residency.

"Hourglass" by The Mutineers

Another artist from Portland and another album we feaured in 2018.  It is from the EP Threshold. Cool stuff.

"Generals and Majors" by TCandI

Next, we have a live version of the XTC song from Black Sea - by the collaboration between Terry Chambers and Colin Moulding.  Moulding wrote the song. I could not find a video of TCandI performing the song, so I added the XTC version to the video playlist.
"Distant Sky" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds

We close things out with a song from the 2016 Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds album Skeleton Tree. I got it off of a 2016 mix CD made by a friend of mine.
