Wild Wednesday Morning Shuffle - Missing in America Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

October 16 - Week 4:  Josh Gray  + Meghan Hayes

October 23 - Week 5: Microwave Mountain + The Big Dumb

If you are able, please come to The 5 Spot tonight.  We have a great show lined up with Jason Erie and The Truehearts.  Both have killer bands lined up made up of some of our favorite musicians including some past and future E2TG Residency participants.   Doors will open around 5:30pm and Music will go from just after 6 until 8:15 or 8:30.

I had another great night at $2 Tuesday - Adrian + Meredith played a bunch of new songs that sounded fantastic.  The night started with a honest to goodness FOLK singer from Arkansas names Willi Carlisle. I found myself laughing and smiling throughout his set. All the other artists were great, and of course Derek Hoke made it all worth the price of admission..

We have an honest to goodness Wild Wednesday shuffle - let's get to it!

"MIA" by Nathan Bell

Some new music coming from Nathan Bell of Signal Mountain, Tennessee.  I often describe him as a "truth-teller". It is the most honest and an important way I know to describe him.  At a time when the truth seems elastic or ephemeral, truth-tellers are a precious commodity.  Music - and folk music in particular - has a way of cutting through the noise and speaking to the heart of all who will listen.  This is a live version of a powerful track from Bell's 2017 Love>Fear: 48 Hours in Traitorland. This version is taken from the 2018 live album Er Gwaetha Pawb a Phopeth which was recorded during a tour of Wales.

"Love and Only Love" by K Michelle Dubois

Next up, we have a cover of a Neil Young song originally released on Ragged Glory (1990).  It comes from Atlanta based artist K Michelle Dubois from her 2018 album Harness.  We have more recently featured her song Waves Break.

Remember When" by Jeremy Harrell

Next up, we have a song that was submitted to me back in 2015. It didn't make it into the shuffle which is a shame. It's been hanging around the playlist then, and I glad it came up today.  "Remember When" is a wonderful song that tells an evocative story.

"Back in the Day Reprise" by Howie D

Next up, we have the reprise of a track from Which One Am I? by Back Street Boy - Howie D.  It is from his family-friendly solo release. A positive and upbeat song.

"Twice as Big" by Matt Campbell

Singer-songwriter Matt Campbell recently packed up from Nashville and moved to Warsaw, Poland - where he continues to pursue his life as a troubadour.  This is a track from his album The Man With Everything.  You may recall that Campbell made a big impression on the Music City during his time here. In addition to the great music he had, he will be remembered from playing a huge role in the emergence of the American Legion on Gallatin Pike as a major country music venue.

"Love is a Drag" by Robyn Hitchcock and Emma Swift

Long time East Nashville residents Emma Swift and Robyn Hitchcock released a is from a single the couple released back in 2016.  It was their second single release together.  More recently, Hitchcock has released an album on which he collaborates with Andy Partridge of XTC.

"She's the One" by Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band
Next up, we have a live version of a song originally released on one of my favorite albums of all time - Born to Run.  It was from a January 19, 2016 show in Chicago which was released back in 2016.  We have been featuring songs off that album periodically since then.

"Quick Burn Fire" by Float Here Forever

We close things out by returning to Tour the Ruins - the 2018 album by the Detroit band Float Here Forever which we featured last year. Really dug this album when we featured it last year and happy to revisit it today.
