Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Calvary Hill Mix (Teenage Bliss Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

We are gearing up for the grand finale of the E2TG 8th Anniversary Residency.  I am very excited for this one.  I hope you can make it out!

I got to see one of my musical heroes last night. Mike Watt brought his Missingmen  to the legendary Exit/In.   It was a very fun show - lots of Minutemen song plus some choice covers.   Great night overall - with Nashville band Look What I Did  opening, followed by Memphis band Joecephus and the George Jonestown Massacre.

We have a Music City Monday shuffle - so let's get to it!

"White Girls (Student of the Blues, Pt 1)" by Diarrhea Planet

Opening with a track from the late lamented Nashville rock and roll band Diarrhea Planet with a track from their 2013 album I'm Rich Beyond Your Wildest Dreams.  Reminded me of the time a friend of mine had an event for the opening of his milkshake/soda truck and offered to make special milkshakes named after the bands who played the events, but then he decided it best not to make a milkshake called Diarrhea Planet.  Hmm...

"Wash" by Sad Baxter

Next up, we have Sad Baxter with a track from So Happy - their 2018 album.  I saw Sad Baxter a couple of months back - opening a show for my cousin's band Summer Cannibals, and they sounded as excellent as ever.

"Carolina Blue Sky Blues" by Steve Forbert

Steve Forbert's "Romeo's Tune" from his 1979 second album Jackrabbit Slim was a monster hit, and one of my favorite songs of my earliest interests in music.  Forbert has continued to write and perform great music over the years. This is a track from his 2018 album The Magic Tree.  Forbert has a wonderful distinctive voice.

"Hartford's Bend" by Eric Brace, Peter Cooper, and Thomm Jutz

We have two tracks today from Profiles in Courage, Frailty, and Discomfort.  The first collaboration of long time musical partners Peter Cooper and Eric Brace with Thomm Jutz.  This track is a tribute to the late John Hartford and his enduring place in river boat lore.

"Of Teenage Bliss" by Western Medication

Several 2018 albums in today's shuffle. Including Taste from Western Medication. This band features a fellow WXNA DJ - Sweetbaby Josh. I really dig this band.

"Calvary Hill" by Walk the West

A reformed Walk the West have been playing around the area recently.  They were one of my favorite bands back when I first started attending shows in Nashville.  This song highlights their unique style of Western music and rock and roll.

"Hello It's Me (Live)" by The Bunnies

The Bunnies were an early Nashville punk band - fronted by Donna Frost who continues to make music in Nashville to this day.  This is a live performance from the Return to Elliston Square Live! album - a recording of the album release show for the essential Nashville 80s rock compilation, Return to Elliston Square.  Elliston Square was a music venue located off Elliston Place in the current location of The End.

"Parkerburg Blues" by Eric Brace, Peter Cooper, and Thomm Jutz

Next, we have our second track of the day from Brace, Cooper, and Jutz.

"Tempt Me" by Joanna Barbera

And, we close things out with E2TG favorite Joanna Barbera from her Forget album - which came out in 2013.
