E2TG 1/28/2020 - India Ramey Finale - Field Day for the Heat Mix (Sesame Chicken Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

India Ramey Residency Finale - 1/28/2020 The 5 Spot 6:00PM

Excited to catch the finale of the India Ramey Residency at The 5 Spot tonight.  I sadly missed the first edition, but I have caught the last two weeks. Tim Easton has opened each week with a couple of songs, E2TG Artists of the Year have been well represented (Rayvon Pettis on Week 1 and Jon Latham on Week 3).  Wild Ponies played Week 2. Tonight's guest opener is No. 1 Knife (featuring E2TG 2016 Artist of the Year Brian Wright and Sally Jaye of 2017 Band of the Year Ladies Gun Club).  Taco Mouth will be the special guest.

All of the guests have been fantastic and I expect tonight will be no exception, but seeing India Ramey light up the stage with a full band has been a revelation. Her songs hit hard - snakes and devils are among the recurring themes (with skeletons on the stage). She has been playing songs from a forthcoming new album, and I cannot wait until that hits the world.

    Featured Friday Playlist

Tuesday Shuffle:

Today's shuffle starts with a 21 second track and ends with a 21 minute track - because that is how we roll at E2TG.

"Solidarite" by Dragon Welding (from Dragon Welding)

"Chinese Buffet" by The Royal Hounds (from Low Class Songs for High Class People)

The 2019 album by Nashville's The Royal Hounds slipped past me at the end of 2019, but it is great stuff.  Digging this song that made me hungry and hungry again an hour later. Sesame chicken!

"For What It's Worth" by The Staple Singers (from For What It's Worth)

Why is this Buffalo Springfield song still relevant over 50 years later?

"The Old Wilted Rose" by Chris and Adam Carroll (from Good Farmer)

"Shining Light" by MONO INC (feat. Tilo Wolff) (from The Book of Fire)

First listen to the recently released new album by German Alternative/gothic metal band MONO INC. They formed in 2000.  Tilo Wolff is a Swiss born German musician who formed the band Lacrimosa is 1990.

"Klangfarbenmelodie.. And The Colorist Strikes Primitiv (Part 1)" by Thurston Moore (from Klangfarbenmelodie.. And the Colorist Strikes Primitiv)

21 minutes of experimental noise from the 2018 reissue  of the 1995 release by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth.  The record was originally released on CD only in New Zealand. FYI - the video playlist features a six minute extract of the album. I listened to the full 21 minutes from the end of my drive to my arrival at my office.

Day 2 of my 3 day work week....   I went out last night for Madison Guild Monday at Dee's.  Mark Robinson, Grace Adele, Davis Raines, Megan Palmer with Bob Lewis, Conrad y Skordalia, and Maynard and the Musties all played excellent sets. Lots of cool folks in attendance. All in all a fun night.

It's Tuesday - so let's see what is trending at E2TG this fine mid-November day...

Whew! It's Friday!  It's been a bit of whirlwind week for me. I moved on Wednesday (I am beyond grateful to have such great friends - a solid crew of wonderful people who made the move as painless as possible). I'll be unpacking and decorating the new place for weeks, but I'm at least settled. I had two meetings for WXNA - big stuff is happening.

We close the week with a pretty cool Featured Friday shuffle - a couple of first listens, some returning favorites, some big names, and a pretty diverse mix.  Let's go!

Tuesday Morning Music Shuffle - Honky Tonk Angel Mix

It's been week of loss in the extended music community.  Last week, original Jason and The Scorchers' drummer, Perry Baggs died at the age of 50.

And the yesterday, we lost Jon Lord of Deep Purple, Bob Babbitt of The Funk Brothers and the legendary Queen of Country Music Kitty Wells.  Imagine the jam session going on in heaven right now...

=================================================================

Moving forward, we added a bunch of music to our playlist yesterday, and we shuffled up some of the latest adds for you (a rousing selection of old and new music).

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit were one of the highlights of 2011's Record Store Day shows at Grimey's Used and Pre-loved Music.  At that time, Here We Rest was a brand, spanking new record and was already getting the wide-spread attention it deserved.  Today, we have a track off that album called We've Met.

Next, we have a song off the debut album from Bluegrass legends, The Dillards.  The Dillards played The Darlings on the Andy Griffith Show. Reuben's Train is an arrangement of a traditional song.

Next up, we have the 1958 hit single from Rock 'n' Roll pioneer, the late Conway Twitty. It's Only Make Believe which was on his first album, Conway Twitty Sings.

And finally, shifting gears pretty dramatically, we have a new song from Thurston Moore's new band, Chelsea Light Moving.  The already released one song, Burroughs as a free download, and now we have a second... Groovy and Linda is out now.

Go here for the downloads and updates:
