E2TG 5/13/2021 - Figuring it Out Along the Way - Plum Mix (I Woke Up Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

In the 10 year existence of E2TG, change has been the operative word. The blog and how I do it have undergone many changes - usually driven by some change in my circumstance or schedule etc. Now, with going out to hear music becoming a thing again, I am realizing that I made changes over the last 13-14 months that are going to be difficult to maintain in the emerging new reality.

I don't know yet what changes will be needed, and it may not happen overnight and the changes may be incremental. It also may take a series of missteps to arrive something that works. Bear with me and thanks as always for reading.

Featured Friday Playlist recap Part 5 (songs 46-55):

46. "Paris" by Teresa Guidry
Nashville based singer-songwriter who was on Season 10 of The Voice with her first single of 2021.

All of this happened a long time ago when the world was a very different place. Of course, none of us knew that at the time.

Okay.... it's been one of those weeks... brutal is not a strong enough word for it. But it is mid-week and all will be well soon enough - I suppose.

E2TG 7th Anniversary Residency is coming in June to The 5 Spot!

As you may be aware, for the past two years, I have been fortunate enough to co-host a radio show (Double Shot with Joe and Sue) along with my good friend Sue Havlish on WXNA-LP Nashville. This experience has been one of the most wonderful of my life.

WXNA went on the air just under two years ago. It is a low-power, all-volunteer community, non-profit radio station, and it has taken this city by storm. I am so proud to be a part of it. It is time for the Spring Pledge Drive.  WXNA is People Powered Radio and relies on the generous support of the community to keep things going.  You investment (small or large) pays off everyday - by helping the station to keep on providing a home for independently programmed shows covering a variety of musical genres and topics of interest and benefit to the community.  The drive runs through Saturday at midnight. You can donate at wxnafm.org or by calling 615-933-WXNA (9962).

Well it is Wednesday - time for some Wildness E2TG Style.  Wednesday is the day we shuffle up all the songs which are current saved into my phone's memory.  As usual it is a mix bagged of past and current music spanning the globe and the decades.

Let's shuffle!

Wild Friday Morning Shuffle - Too Young to Know Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook

Overall, I'm just trying to mosey into 2018 (except for work, where I have been slammed). Last night, I had my first night out of the new year... of course, I was at The 5 Spot, where I saw East Nashville's favorite Pirate band, Tom Mason and the Blue Buccaneers.  Mark Robinson joined them on-stage for one song, and sat in on part of another song from his barstool.

Next, week - E2TG dives fully into the new year, but for today, we have another "wild card" shuffle (from all the songs on my phone memory card).

It's a pretty cool list - so let's check it out.

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Bend with the Breeze Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well, it is officially Americana Fest week in Nashville. Looking forward to seeing some out of town friends this week, and of course, seeing and hearing some amazing music. I'm going to try to avoid stressing out too much over all the great shows I will miss because it is logistically impossible to make them all.

I am excited to announce my first ever guest writer.  Look for some AMA reviews and commentary from Collins de la Cour.  I'm really excited to take this next step with E2TG.

Tonight, I have some pre/non-AMA shows.  Meanwhile, we are expecting a couple of days of wind and rain from Irma. So far I have gotten good reports from friends and family in Florida.

Meanwhile, it is Monday. On Monday we focus in on Nashville, the Music City... new stuff, old stuff - it's just all more or less connected to Nashville.  Let's Shuffle!

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - Sh*t Motel Mix

So much on my mind....  Thinking about people hurting and dealing with losses.  I rather glibly posted last week about emerging from a "blue funk", but I have known depression and depression is much more than a "blue funk". It's often not something one can just "get over" or "think about all the good things" to overcome. Like other forms of mental illness it is just that - an illness. Same with addiction. We use the terms addicted, addiction, addict rather casually about our obsessions with our phones or Facebook or various game.  And while things like that CAN rise to the level of addiction - the are usually just bad habits. I think people who can overcome bad habits with will-power or some variant of that - fail to understand and with addiction - at some point the power to make those choices goes away.  Lectures, discussions of consequences, reminds of what can and will be lost - all those are bound to fail.

There is hope, though, for addiction and mental illness. I have had my dark moments - really dark, and I am fortunate enough to have lived to see the light. Not everyone is that fortunate.

I don't always know what I should do or say... For now, I'll just offer a light, extend a hand, and play some music....

****

I do need to give a shout out to Mark Robinson for his excellent CD Release Show Saturday. My daughter and I had a great time.  If you haven't done so, get a copy of his new CD, Live at The 5 Spot. You'll thank me later for the tip.

It is Monday, and we shuffle up some locally sourced music from our "Music City" playlist.

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - They're Giving Him Hell Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Well, the heat wave has broken just slightly with some showers, storms, and clouds.

Meanwhile, another week has begun - the final full week in July. I know this is partially a sign of age, but really, where is the time going?

Oh well... whatever... never mind.   It's Monday and that means we have Music City Monday - featuring songs/albums/artists who have some kind of connection to Nashville, Tennessee.  To paraphrase Double Shot with Joe and Sue, it's Music City connected if I say it is... Onward...

Music City Monday Morning Shuffle - This Heartbreak Town Gets Around Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Whew!  That three day weekend went by way too fast... Deep into planning the month-long E2TG Anniversary Party in May (which will be here soon!), working on Double Shot with Joe and Sue, and getting prepared to self-publish my first novel, The Drift (Follow The Drift on Facebook!).  I did manage to get out a couple of times over the weekend. Friday, I met some friends at Dee's in Madison and saw Daniel Lawrence Walker, Russell Thompson, and a bit of The Hummingbyrds.  I was going to go to the Country to see Zach Parks, Zach Red, and Drew Kohl, but I made the mistake of stopping by my apartment and my busy week caught up with me.

Saturday night, I caught The Wooly Mamas and long time E2TG faves - Year of October for a smoldering early show at The 5 Spot. Then, I headed to The Country to catch Sean Quinn and the Tremblers, Josh Morris and The Green Field, and more.  Regular reader Sue will be interested to know that Sean Quinn did a cover of the Santo and Johnny classic "Sleep Walk". This song has been a staple in Mark Robinson's set.  While I cannot guarantee that he will play that on May 3 when he kicks of the E2TG Anniversary residency at The 5 Spot, you come see and find out for yourself.

Onward - to the Music City Monday Shuffle!
