Well, this is it! The final shuffle of the year, and the final batch of Earie awards.
Since I just know I will have forgotten someone who really should have won an Earie, I wanted to take this time to offer a sincere expression of appreciation to everyone who helped make this year bearable. If you released music that I heard, if you played a show I attended, if we attended a show together, if we shared music on social media, if you came to one of my residency shows, if you listened to Double Shot, if you read his blog, if you helped to bring great music to people, if you are reading this now, thank you!
As I have been mentioning, I plan to post the Artist(s)/Band(s) of the Year next week. I can announce today that, expanding on what I did last year, E2TG will hand out a total of four "Golden Earies" for 2017. There will be both an Artist and a Band of the Year for both Nashville and non-Nashville.
As I explained last week, this should not be taken to mean that the Nashville awards are some sort of local award vs. the non-Nashville being a national award. These designations merely serves to acknowledge both the roots of E2TG as well as the fact that while there is a definite Nashville focus, I will always remember and appreciate the bands and artists from other cities that supported E2TG before most in Nashville knew I existed.

Well, we've reached the end of another week and another month of shuffles...
Temperatures have cooled off in Nashville - it actually is beginning to feel like Fall.
There is much to mourn, there is much in the world that needs to change- and which will only change if people of good conscience fight for that change.
There is also much good in the world, much beauty, and a great need to help share that good and beauty.
It's Friday, and on Friday E2TG plays songs from the "New Music" playlist which is currently just under 500 songs long - and includes songs received as recently as this week and songs added many months ago. Perhaps I will move some of the older songs off the playlist... maybe. Most of what I feature on E2TG will be new to someone who reads.
I am feeling more comfortable being me and doing what I do. I still have a tendency to want to please everyone, but I have learned that when I try to do that I usually end of pleasing no one - least of all myself.
That last is true on so many levels about so many different parts of my life.
Let's just shuffle- 'cause that is one thing that I do...

I am excited to announce that E2TG has more daily readers than any other music blog ever. It's like billions and billions of readers every day (maybe more). In fact, the editor of one of the lesser known music blogs PASTE called me to congratulate me and ask me for some advice on how to attract readers.
This is all true because I wrote it, and any "evidence" you see to the contrary is just FAKE NEWS.

On a more serious note (all though the sentiment behind my little joke is very serious), I wanted to remind my readers (both of you ;-) ) that I am taking next week off - so no regular shuffles... maybe a special post or two (but maybe not).
It is Friday - the end of another work week, and as we do, we have our "Featured Friday" shuffle - where we shuffle up songs from our New Music playlist.

To me the biggest danger to as the weeks and months go by, is that the insanity that we are seeing will begin to seem "normal". It is human nature, I think, to survive regardless of the circumstances. And sometimes to survive it becomes necessary to accept the unacceptable on some level just to make it through the day. The fact is (I must repeatedly remind myself of this) that there is so much about the current administration that is not normal, is not "okay". From the fact that white supremacists still have a seat at the table of power, to the attacks on the press, to the attacks on science... it is not normal, it is not okay.

Okay, okay! I'm back after a couple days off due to work related stuff....
First of all, I have to give a huge THANK YOU! to Cafe Rooster Records and everyone who came out Wednesday night. I could not have asked for the night to be any better. Sure was a humbling experience to know I had anything to do with what went down. What went down was: Darrin Bradbury with Megan Palmer. Sally Jaye - backed by Brian Wright, Jon Latham and more. Jon Latham with Sean Quinn, Rorey Carroll, and Brian Wright - back by Jon Latham and Aaron Lee Tasjan! Everyone was amazing and Brian Wright was other-worldly good.
We do have one more week to go of the E2TG Residency! May 31 - it is going to Amelia White and the Blue Souvenirs (Sergio Webb, Dave Coleman, Parker Hawkins, Megan Carchman) with special guests Fuzzqueen from Washington D.C. - Fuzzqueen features former members of Miss Shevaughn and Yuma Wray who we have featured before.
I have your Featured Friday shuffle - as we go into a long holiday weekend.

Got to get out and see Ben de la Cour and Wild Ponies at The 5 Spot. We are seriously spoiled with all the great music here in town.
I worked a shift for the WXNA Pledge Drive. Go ahead and give if you haven't this is community radio at its best. And with the internet, the community is where ever you are. wxnafm.org.
I might as well take every opportunity afforded to me to remind you of our next E2TG Residency show. Cafe Rooster Records are an important part of this community. So, not only will you hear great music from Sally Jaye, Brian Wright, Darrin Bradbury, Jon Latham, and special guest Rorey Carroll - they will be collecting donations of bug spray and jugs of water for Southern Alliance for People and Animal Welfare to be taken to the homeless camps.

Okay - I am back... well at least the current administration hasn't been doing any insane things lately... wait, what? oh, never mind... seriously, what exactly does this President have to do before the Republicans take action?

So, as we embark on the seventh year of E2TG - there is a lot going on...
Nashville's Listener Supported, Community Radio Station, WXNA 101.5 is in the midst of their Spring Pledge Drive, and they need YOUR support. I am proud to be a part of this great organization, but even beyond that, I am so glad this station was formed to fill a gap in the Nashville radio landscape. To be honest, I had pretty much stopped listening to the radio for the last several years. Last year, when I got a new car, I got a free trial subscription to satellite radio and was considering extending the subscription until WXNA came along. Now, I listen to WXNA on a regular basis, and it is truly one of the best stations I have ever heard. The variety of the programming, the fact that real people select what to play, and the fact that it is a voice of the community and for the community are all important to me. Please consider giving or upping your recurring gift during this Pledge Drive. wxnafm.org or 615-933-WXNA (9962).
Tomorrow night!!!! is Week 3 of the E2TG Residency at The 5 Spot, and we have a good one. David Olney (Band) + Sergio Webb (Band). It all goes down at 6:00pm (Door at 5:30) $5.00 cover. No shuffle yesterday. I blame Trump... No, seriously...
Appropriately enough, we return with a Topical Thursday Shuffle - continuing our broadly defined and unspecified Topic.
So, basically, in some cases the songs fit my topic - at least in my mind. In others I imagine some person or group of people saying the title in a specific context that would fit my topic.
As always, I am not ascribing any belief or opinion to anyone but myself... Meanwhile, some cool music for a very cold Thursday morning commute.

All right. I am not backing down from talking about this corrupt and dangerous administration.But, I am taking a brief timeout. I had a kind of crappy day yesterday, and I just don't have it in me today to be freshly outraged. To all who resist, keep fighting, and I will rejoin you very soon. I just need a respite into music for a bit to recharge my batteries.

Last night, "Earie" Award Winner Taylor Alexander's blind audition for The Voice was aired. He absolutely blew it out of the water with a surprise country cover of Cher's "Believe" that captured everyone's attention. He is going to be on Adam's team this season. Here is the video which has been viewed over 200,000 times. Super proud of Taylor!
On Tuesdays, we spin music from our "New Music" playlist that consists of music generally released in the past year up to and including tracks from not-yet-released albums. Let's see what the shuffle has in store for us today....

Theme Thursday Morning Shuffle - That Son of a Gun Mix

So, I was thinking - I tend to do that quite a bit... These days so many of us are angry or scared or outraged or appalled or depressed or otherwise distressed... basically anyone who cares about: people with disabilities, the education of our children, healthcare, the environment, people of color, people who look different, the LGBT (etc.) community, the free press, this country, the world... is likely feeling any one or more or all of those emotions just about every day.
And we are - and we are spurned to actions - however much or little we are able to do... but in the midst of calling our leaders and signing petitions and writing letters and protesting and creating art and writing about things we normally don't write about... take the time to love. Love everyone. Love generously, love without limits, love yourselves...
It is okay to be afraid. Fear is not the problem. Acting based upon fear is the problem. So if you are afraid - try taking some action of love - however small. It helps. (This self-reminder is a public service announcement from me)...

I had a blast at the final edition of Brian Langlinais' residency at The 5 Spot. Brian is awesome and he put together a killer band. Adrian + Meredith and Fifth and Main provided support. The Gumbo and King Cake were incredible. The company was great.
Tonight, it is the 10th Anniversary of Jon Byrd's album, Byrd's Auto Parts at The Family Wash. Should be a blast. Jon Byrd "Doesn't Rock Ever" but he does what he does better than anyone else.
It is Thursday - we continue our "Theme Thursday" series. Songs loosely connected to an unstated central theme (even if the connection is all in my head). Let's go!
