First up today, we have a track from the debut EP by this L.A band.

Next up, we have a single from a new punk band from Gainesville, Florida.

Next, we have a single from the new project featuring Mikey James - the former drummer of Longwave. 

36. "You're the Summer" by Ritual Cloak & Autumn Juvenile 

Next up, we have the stunning first taste of a collaboration between an electronic post-rock duo from Cardiff (yes Wales again) and a comedian, writer, and spoken word perform.  This is a fantastic track. 

37. "Oh Ballerina" by Traitrs

Next up, a fantastic new single from this Toronto based post punk/darkwave duo - the first taste of a forthcoming album.

38. "Hey Edna" by Old Tom & the Lookouts

And we close with a first taste of the forthcoming second album by this Boston-based indie-folk band. The song and the album deal with the important issues around mental health.

It's funny in a way... some thoughts as things begin to reopen... 

In the midst of the shutdowns and lockdowns, I am pretty sure at some point, I made the emotional declaration that if I got another chance, I would never miss another show (or some version of that) and that I would push through my anxiety and go to new, unknown places. 

I have loved the opportunities to get out and see live music, but it still remains a delicate balance. There is too much going on - even already - to do it all - plus my introvert energy gets used up so easily and recharge time is vital.  Also my anxiety about new, unknown places did not magically go away over the pandemic and in fact - there are new anxieties because everything is new and unknown - at least until it is not. 

So, while I hope to make some improvements - the fact is I will still work hard to strike the right balance, sometimes feel guilty about missing some shows, and forever be grateful for the ones I am able to see.

Next up, we have the long awaited new album from Welsh band My Name is Ian. This is the title track from that release which took two years to produce. 

21. "One Woman Man" by The Stars of Disaster

Next up, we have the emotionally powerful new single from Pittsburgh's The Stars of Disaster.  The new album, In the Trough of the Wave, is set for release this Friday. 

22. "Prey" by Javi Paton

I am just going to be honest, and I don't know how I was introduced to this music, and I don't know a whole lot about the artist. But, it is pretty cool. 

23. "If It Makes You Happy" by Rid of Me

Next up, we have a nifty cover of the Sheryl Crow hit from this Philadelphia noise-punk band. 

24. "Grace" by 4 Minutes Later

The story of this band began is 2018 with a tweet promising music coming soon. There were no band members listed, no band images, no tour dates, and no location. Just the promise - which captured a lot of attention. Then the music did come, but the band remained anonymous. With a planned tour postponed, it looks like 2021 will be the year that the band reveal themselves - but first we have this new single - which sound fantastic.

25. "Face On the Rail Line" by The Catenary Wires

And, we close this segment of music with a brand single from the iconic UK indie-pop band from their forthcoming Birling Gap album which is due out June 18.

Wednesday is the tipping point, it is now socially acceptable to start looking forward to the end of the work week. As a bonus, we have a three day weekend coming up, AND we are into the final three days of the month. September is looking to be a very busy month for E2TG so buckle up. 

If you have been paying attention around here, you know Wednesday is the day we get "wild".  Our Wednesday shuffles come not from one specific playlist but from all of the songs currently saved to my phone.  This usually creates an interesting mix of old and new songs - where E2TG favorites exist alongside some of the many legendary figures. You may hear some of the music we are currently featuring, but you are just as likely to hear music we previously featured or classic tunes from my personal collection.  

Enough talk, let's shuffle!

While I have been trying to post as much "new music" as possible over the last several weeks, I steadfastly refuse to skip my "Wild Wednesday" shuffle.  Basically it is classic E2TG - where recent music resides next to classics from my collection which reside next to lesser known gems of various vintages....

I always look forward to what the shuffle will pull up, and I am almost never disappointed. Case in point....

I'm befuddled and bewildered... first of all, my bluetooth kept crashing on my phone.  I'm hoping the situation resolves itself because I have already restarted my phone, and that is about the extent of my technical knowledge....

Anyway, I powered through today's shuffle - from all the songs on my phone. The shuffle brought up some gems from the depth of my playlist along with some slightly more recent faves.

I'm going to skip the "Earies" today. I need to regroup and get a running list going so I am don't confuse myself.

Anyway - some upcoming events I wanted to clue you into... as always, this is not comprehensive and just off the top of my head -so sorry for any omissions....

Tonight: Fats Kaplin hosts the early show at The 5 Spot. His shows are always amazing. I had to miss last week, but I will be there tonight.  After that, the incredible Collins Family will be hosting their second annual Christmas Extravaganza also at The 5 Spot. Some pretty awesome guests plus Smoking Flowers all doing holiday tunes.  Benefits for that show are going to Standing Rock.

Friday: As always, Tim Carroll Rock n Roll Happy Hour goes down at The 5 Spot. If you've never been, go! If you've been, well, then I don't need to tell you.  A bit later Nathan Dohse of AGD Entertainment will be at The Country for his first live show in a very long time.  Closing the night will be one of my faves Patrick Kinsley and A Fistful of Dollars.

Saturday: The 11th Annual Get Behind the Mule - Tom Waits tribute and benefit for Second Harvest Food Bank is at The 5 Spot. Some awesome guests this year. Mary Sack puts on a a great show.

Sunday:  Don Gallardo will be opening for SHEL at 3rd and Lindsley for the long running Nashville Sunday Night show and broadcast.  A bit of trivia - SHEL was the band that was playing at The 5 Spot right after I met Darrin Bradbury in person for the very first time.

Writing and posting late today. I've been at a work conference all day, and then stopped by Charlie Bob's to see Jon Byrd and eat some $.50 tacos and drink some $2 Little Harpeth.

Tomorrow could be iffy, as I am back at the conference all day, but I will post if I can.

Let's jump into the Trending Tuesday Shuffle - because Patrick Kinsley is filling in for Derek Hoke tonight at $2 Tuesdays, and he and A Fistful of Dollars are playing a set.  If you can't make it out tonight, you can and should come out and see them on May 18 when they are playing the E2TG 5 Year Anniversary Extravaganza (hey I'm getting good at these subtle self-promotion deals).

Happy Friday!  Sue and I had our first Radio DJ training at WXNA, and I got to see the studio of the first time.  When I know more about an on-air date, I will definitely be posting about that here. 

I am excited to announce that the line-up for the E2TG Anniversary Extravaganza has been set.  Look for the big reveal Monday morning (it may leaked sooner - so now would be a good time to double-check that you have "Liked" the Facebook Page.  It is going to be a good one, so go ahead and mark May 18 as "busy" on your calendar.

Tonight my plans include hanging out at The 5 Spot for the Tim Carroll Rock and Roll Happy Hour and then making my way to The Family Wash for the Mark Huff CD Release show with Jon Byrd opening up.  Good times...

Tomorrow is Record Store Day.  Make your plans accordingly....

Last night was a wonderful reminder of the depth and width of the musical offerings that this city has to offer.  Not even to mention the several awesome shows that I was able to attend.  It began with week one of the Fats Kaplin and Friends. Kaplin is an incredible multi-instrumentalist who has worked with everyone from Jack White and Beck to Nanci Griffith and Trisha Yearwood.  He also has several solo albums and albums with his wife - the amazing vocalist Kristi Rose (who sang several songs last night). The show was filled with magic tricks, good humor, and fantastic music.  The residency will continue throughout March (with the exception of March 17), and I highly recommend it if you are in Nashville on one of those Thursdays.

You may recall, I posted several songs some time ago by Bashful Hips.  It is very original music (think alternative hip hop as a jumping off point).  Bashful Hips has a brand new CD called After I Died, I've Never Felt So Alive, and he celebrated the release with a diverse and spirited show at The End.  Experimental, progressive rock band Work opened the night, Ted C. Fox played next with a sound that pretty awesomely melded bluegrass with more experimental post-rock elements, Bashful Hips was next delivering his new album song by song. Backed by Nathan Conrad of Spoken Nerd on bass and spieling over a pre-recorded track, Bashful Hips songs are complex and emotional and awesome.  Expect to hear songs from the album in the shuffle soon.  Spoken Nerd closed the night. This is unabashedly hip-hop music  featuring a live band and pre-ordered music. I have a great respect for good hip-hop music - even if I admit to not knowing a lot about it.  This was really good and when joined by Nashville rapper KidDead, the rapid fire word play was impressive. 

It felt good to step out of my comfort zone (both location and musical styles), and I really had a blast.
