E2TG 10/28/2020 - It is Okay - Old Copper Penny Mix (Find the Beauty Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I'm a little under the (nasty) weather - so apologies for the late and rather minimalistic post...

Our Featured Friday Recap rolls on with songs #21-25...

21. "Chasing Highs" by Griff Clawson
First up, we have the debut single from L.A. based singer/songwriter Griff Clawson - who has contributed vocals to tracks by ARTY, Matoma, Devault, Manilla Killa and Boombox Cartel.
22. "Revolution Son" by Shiva and the Hazards
Next up, we have a really cool single from Australian rock band Shiva and the Hazards.  The song was produced by the band and mixed by Mark Gardener of RIDE. It sounds fantastic.
23. "Are You Listening?" by Lera Lynn
Next, we have a track from the brand new album by Nashville singer-songwriter Lera Lynn. Lynn wrote, performed, produced, and recorded the album on her own. It is appropriately called On My Own.  Check it out. I first became aware of Lera Lynn via the segment she filmed for Songcraft Presents premiere Songs of the Road feature which featured our friend Ben Arthur and which was directed and edited by our friend Matthew Hendershot, and which was directed by Rob Reinhart.
24. "Golden Repair" by Sunstack Jones
Next, we have the title track from the fourth album by UK band Sunstack Jones - this is a gorgeous sounding record. Definitely check it out.
25. "I Never Want To Leave" by The Luxembourg Signal
And we close out this segment of music with the lead track from the third studio album by dreampop/shoegaze supergroup The Luxembourg signal - the band is transatlantic with members calling L.A., San Diego, and London home. A nice way to close this penultimate recap segment of this week's Playlist.

Tomorrow- we wrap up this week's Playlist...

Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Caged Up Bull Mix (Land of Dismay Remix)

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

*Note: The video playlist at the bottom of the post attempts to closely approximate the shuffle I listened to on my way to work this morning. When a video for a song was not available, I substituted another song by the same artist. When I could not find any videos by an artist, I included a related video or did not include a video for that track. This blog may reference unreleased tracks, however, no unreleased music is ever included.

No post tomorrow.  I will be off work.  I am hard at work on the upcoming E2TG reboot.  Before that, we have the end of the year getting closer, and per usual, I feel totally unprepared.

Anyway, here is today's shuffle - enjoy!

The E2TG 8th Anniversary is now only ONE WEEK away!

September 25 - Week 1: Ben Arthur + Conrad y Skordalia

October 2 - Week 2: Ryan Sobb + Don Gallardo

October 9 - Week 3: The Truehearts + Jason Erie

October 16 - Week 4:  Josh Gray  + Meghan Hayes

October 23 - Week 5: Microwave Mountain + The Big Dumb

I got a bunch of new music added last night,  After a couple weeks off, I have brought back Wild Wednesday in the traditional sense.  Actually, Wild Wednesday as it exists now is pretty much classic E2TG - a shuffle of all the music on my phone (new, old, etc.).  Let's get on it!

I really was going to stay in last night to try to finish recovering from Muddy Roots, but then I saw the line-up at $2 Tuesday....   Solo sets from two of Nashville's best songwriters - Ryan Sobb* and Nick Nace.  Plus Derek Hoke with Laur Joamets sitting in along with Derek's usual band of Steve Latanation and Mark Robertson.  And closing out the night was the all-star BiPolar Bear - led by Laur Joamets.

*Don't forget to make your plans to see Ryan Sobb with a  full band during Week 2 of the E2TG Fall Residency along with the always wonderful Don Gallardo and How Far West!!!!!

Anyway - let's get rolling.  It is Wednesday - when we usually do Wild Wednesday (and that is what I am calling this shuffle) but this week - we are going to stay in the "New Music" playlist since we were off last week.  Let's go!

Hard to believe but the E2TG 8th Anniversary Residency is just over a month away!  We have some cool stuff lined up - here is some details!

Long-time E2TG favorite Ben Arthur will be in town from New York. I am not sure if this will be his first performance in Nashville, but it is a rare treat.  Ben is the creator of a new podcast called Songwriter which airs as part of Acoustic Cafe. The show matches a prose writer with a songwriter. Ben will be playing songs from his forthcoming album Perspective which we have been previewing here at E2TG.  Joining Ben will be favorites Conrad y Skordalia.  Since relocating from New York to Nashville David Conrad and Rebecca Weiner Tompkins have stayed busy both playing their own music and backing some of Nashville's finest.  This night should be an especially literary-flavored show.

Preview of the other shows coming soon....

Please note a change in the previously announced line-up.  Don Gallardo will be joining The Truehearts for Week 3 on October 9 and Josh Gray will now be with Meghan Hayes for Week 4 on October 16.  We still can't tell you the second act joining The Big Dumb for our finale on October 23, but it is going to be good!   Make your plans now to attend all five weeks!

Last night was a fun night at The 5 Spot - with Slump Test - a punk band featuring Ryan Dishen, Ben Douglas, and Isaac Anthony.  Really dug their sound.  After that was the comedy stylings of Shakes Hostettler, followed by Big Evil (the band we have been featuring of late - with Ben de la Cour, Chris Watts, Joe Lekkas, and Pete Pulkrabek.   Closing the night My Politic - which features Jen Starsinic (who we played on this week's Music City Monday shuffle) on violin.

Tonight, I am heading to The Basement to see Sad Baxter and Summer Cannibals (a band from Portland, Oregon that features a cousin of mind who I don't know).

Next week, I am taking time off work.  I will be heading to Muddy Roots next weekend, and I am sure I will have plenty to say about that.

Now, on with the shuffle!

Made it back to Dee's last night for Madison Guild Monday for the first time in a while. Hosted by Tom Schreck.  Schreck opened with a full band set which he calls Tom Schreck Escapes.  As always great to see Tom play. His cover of "I Will Survive" was especially tasty.  Tommy Womack was next with a surprise solo set.  He will be back at Dee's Friday with a full band. He has a new single which is extremely timely.  Next up, a shared set from two of my long time favorites Kiley Connell and Drew Kohl. They were followed by the always impressive Connor Rand who had Nicole Boggs join him for a few songs. Excellent stuff. By that time, I was exhausted and I had to bow out before Nicole Boggs and the Reel played. Hate that.

I have a busy week of great live music ahead and lots to do otherwise. Plus it is way to hot. But, anyway - Music!  Today we dive back into the Trending playlist and we have some cool tunes for a hot day.

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Which One Am I? Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

On we go.  As you know, if you read E2TG on any sort of regular basis, I make a concerted effort not to be a (fill in the blank) music blog.  While, I frequently feature singer-songwriter/folk/Americana style music - I regularly cover about every kind of genre imaginable and few you might not have imagined. My rule is if I like it, I write about, and I have a diverse pallet of music I like.

Anyway, I think this Trending Tuesday shuffle is bear that out.

Trending Tuesday Morning Shuffle - Animal Bribery Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

I know for a while, I posted occasional rants/comments on the state of things - always with the caveat that I never intended or wanted E2TG to have a political agenda.  As events unfolded beginning on or before January 2017, I felt compelled to say something. None of that has changed, but I have more or less stopped posting things on here. To be honest, I have been feeling completely disheartened.  I am not someone who thinks everyone should believe as I do, and I recognize that when it comes to political opinions and social issues - many of them have shades of gray which somehow get distilled down to black or white positions.

That being said, when it comes to neo-nazis, white supremacists, mocking disabled people, science, housing children in deplorable conditions, calls to execute LGBT+ people, working hostile foreign governments to influence elections, freedom of the press - I believed that the majority of people regardless of political persuasion could be counted on to close ranks and stand united.  This has proven not to be true. The callousness, the bald-face lies, the lack of compassion or even basic human decency is horrifying, and I feel helpless.

I am equally frustrated by the reticence of the House Democrats to take decisive action.

In the face of all this, when I see Democrats infighting and people saying they won't support this candidate or the other, I am doubly frustrated. I understand wanting to support the candidate or candidates who most closely match your values and beliefs. but can we not agree that any candidate put forth would be an improvement over what we have. Ideally, the primary is the time to support your best candidate and to convince others of your party to support that candidate. That can be done without demonizing the other candidates. Withing running them down and providing fodder for the general election if your least favorite candidate wins.  I say, get a democrat elected and then fight like hell to convince them to always do the right thing.

Anyway, this has all taken a toll on my mental health, and to be honest, it should - the United States has children being held under deplorable conditions and some of those children are dying  - meanwhile representatives of our government are arguing in court against having to provide basic care to these children. And, frankly if this doesn't have an effect on you, please look into why that is.

I don't have any solutions, but I felt I needed to get this out in writing.  None of this is okay.

Moving on!

I had the opportunity to see Rickey Lee Jones last night at City Winery.  She sounded great, was funny, and the show was a blast. Her latest album Kicks was recorded in New Orleans and an eclectic mix of covers from the 70s and earlier.

On to the shuffle!
