Trending Thursday Morning Shuffle - Acadian Driftwood Mix

Be sure to "Like" Ear to the Ground on Facebook!

Moving on!

I had the opportunity to see Rickey Lee Jones last night at City Winery.  She sounded great, was funny, and the show was a blast. Her latest album Kicks was recorded in New Orleans and an eclectic mix of covers from the 70s and earlier.

On to the shuffle!

"Girl From the Last Century" by Junior Cheyne
"Out of Gas" by Junior Cheyne

We start with a twofer from Ain't That a Cheyne - the debut album from Calirfornia band Junior Cheyne.  The band does not appear to have any social media accounts (that I could find) and so I don't know much about them, but they have a great sound and these are two wonderful songs.
"Self Control" by Mark Cline Bates

Next up, we have another track from King of the Crows - the forthcoming new album from Mark Cline Bates.  Bates spent time in L.A. and Nashville, but now lives back in his native West Virginia. He has been called the "Hillbilly Randy Newman", and I am digging this album.  It is due out in just over a week on June 28.

"Medicine Woman" by LuckyandLove

Next we have the first of two tracks - making up our first listen to Lucky+Love (LuckyandLove) - an L.A. based synthwave duo and their second album Transitions. They formed in 2014 - featuring April Love and Loren Luck. A nice addition to our shuffle.

"Out In the Cold" by SPC ECO

Next - the first of two tracks from another duo - We are making our way through Fifteen - the latest released from London based alternative duo SPC ECO.

"Telekinesis" by LuckyandLove

Next - track number two of the day from LuckandLove. More to come.

"Unless She Lets Them" by Mouth Reader

Keeping the alternative sounds going, we have another track from Holographic Phase from Murfreesboro based band Mouth Reader. Really digging this album.

"Being Boiled" by Klammer

Yesterday, I played a track from Klammer and mentioned that they had a new single.  This is that single, and it is a cover of a song originally released by The Human League in 1978.  Klammer have released their take on the song, and it sounds fantastic.  Check it out!

"Missing Records" by Neutrals

Oakland by way of Scotland punk band Neutrals are up next with another hot track from their Kebab Disco album.  I've heard the band's sound described as similar to early Wire. I agree. Just some great old school punk with a definite modern twist.

"In Silence" by SPC ECO

Next our second track of the day from Fifteen by London based SPC ECO.

"Acadian Driftwood" by Mrs. Henry

We close with a first listen to a new release by California band Mrs. Henry.  Yes, this cover of the song by The Band. It comes from a three LP vinyl live album of the band playing The Last Waltz. Expect to hear much more about this in the weeks and months to come. The album is due out July 12, but is available for pre-order.  From what I have heard it sounds great.  The song was omitted from the film and the original soundtrack but was included in the 2002 box set reissue.
